This international classification is conferred for the conservation and protection of the environment as part of the Man and the Biosphere Programme – MAB - and involves the diversified assets that make up cultural heritage, i.e., history, art, archaeology, architecture and the environment as well as educational and dissemination activities in the field of culture, sciences and art. Manrique’s architectural projects on the island of Lanzarote are a very valuable cultural heritage, not least because they focus on blending architecture with the island’s volcanic environment. His work can be considered a sensitive alteration of the landscape of Lanzarote, a personal and extremely original intercession between art, architecture and the landscape where the formal identity of the island has been generated by its geological and morphological features created by the dark lava rocks emitted by the volcanoes. The study objective is to use drawing to research all aspects of this important cultural landscape so as to acquire in-depth knowledge and propose enhancement.

It involves providing good graphic representation of their morphological, material and chromatic features. Drawing is a basic tool in any process focusing on the comprehension and analysis required to transpose material data. Since the supports and techniques used in representation have changed over the centuries, we do not need to go way back in time to understand when different supports and techniques began to be exploited. Representation precedes the classification of archaeological science and accompanies it as it evolved, modifying methods, subject-matter and ideas.

Graphic data or informative documentation about an extremely interesting historical and artistic site can be enriched by its intangible values: atmosphere, colour, light and the environment.

This contribution is part of a research focusing primarly on gathering additional data about architectural heritage using all kinds of drawings, from traditional, historical and contemporary drawings to integrated digital images.

The only fragments that have survived are a few portions of a massive ashlar masonry structure, which characterized the base of the palace. The objective of the research was to carry out an analysis of the site but one that would combine the documentary biblio-iconographic aspect of the study – which would take full account of existing and published articles – with an enquiry based on a direct approach to the site within the metric and perspective-visual frame of reference. This type of analysis can be carried out through direct observation “in situ” and through an integrated digital survey campaign on various levels. This study can be considered an important contribution to the knowledge of the Palazzo and to the documentation of Cultural Heritage.

We could call them true "representations of absence". These models "redesign" volumes in space with the lightness and impalpability of what is nothing but evocation. They are virtual configurations where vision integrates visible reality and representation moves beyond it: invented in a notebook or in drawings, it goes on to materialize patterns which not only describe its three-dimensional nature, but by building physical, albeit transparent structures succeed in making it real - in a sort of augmented reality.
