Over the past seventy years, there has been no shortage of peacemaking efforts by politicians in ... more Over the past seventy years, there has been no shortage of peacemaking efforts by politicians in the Arab-Israeli debacle. Not only politicians but many diplomats and social scientists have attempted to make peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis—and all bids, so far, have not succeeded. Even the peace between Egypt and Israel is a cold peace. There are no normal relations between both countries. The question is why have these well-intentioned professionals failed to make peace a reality for the people in the Holy Land? The answer in one word is—religion. The answer in four words is—interpretation of religious texts. Therefore, the elephant in the room is ‘religion;’ and how influential religious leaders, on both sides, interpret and teach their sacred texts will lead to agreement or assault, concord or combat, strife or serenity, peace or war.
