The objective of this study was to examine surface analysis and wear rate of the metal (aluminum). Wear studies were performed on the Pin-on-Disk (POD) tribometer with a fixed load of under dry air conditions. The wear of the metal surface with the base lubricant was found to be approximately. Upon the addition of polytron additive to the base oil, the surface scar of the metal showed a considerable decrease in its wear, which can be related to the chemical and/or physical changes and the formation of a hard surface film introduced by polytron in the system. In fact, the addition of by volume of polytron to the base oil reduced the value of wear to which indicates a pronounced decrement of one-third of the initial value of wear. The lyotropic phases were characterized by small angle X-ray scattering, polarizing microscope as well as rheometery technique. Under the transmission electron examination, the micrographs of the cubic phase revealed nano-sized cuboids in a size range of 3-5 nm. On the other hand, the pore size in the hexagonal phase was around 13.3 nm that rendered a wall thickness of approximately 6.6 nm to the hexagons. The radiation dose and template geometry play effective roles in the synthesis of nanoporous silica.
