Lenzburg is a town in the central region of the Swiss canton Aargau and is the capital of the Lenzburg District. The town, founded in the Middle Ages, lies in the Seetal valley, about 3 kilometres south of the Aare river. Lenzburg and the neighbouring municipalities of Niederlenz and Staufen have grown together in an agglomeration.

Der Hauptort des zentral gelegenen Bezirks Lenzburg liegt am Aabach im nördlichen Seetal, rund drei Kilometer südlich der Aare. Der nordöstliche Teil des heutigen Stadtgebiets war während der römischen Zeit Standort einer bedeutenden Siedlung, dem Vicus Lindfeld. Im Jahr 893 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt, war Lenzburg zunächst eine dörfliche Siedlung. Im 11. Jahrhundert entstand auf dem Schlossberg das Schloss Lenzburg. Die Siedlung am Fusse des Hügels wurde befestigt und erhielt 1306 von den Habsburgern das Stadtrecht. Nach der Eroberung durch die Eidgenossen im Jahr 1415 gehörte Lenzburg fast vier Jahrhunderte lang zum Berner Aargau, einem Untertanengebiet der Stadt Bern. Seit 1803 ist die Stadt Bezirkshauptort im Kanton Aargau. In der Folge entwickelte sie sich zu einem bedeutenden Verkehrsknotenpunkt und Wirtschaftsstandort. (de)
