Wigtown (/ˈwɪɡtənˌ -taʊn/ (both used locally); Scottish Gaelic: Baile na h-Ùige) is a town and former royal burgh in Wigtownshire, of which it is the county town, within the Dumfries and Galloway region in Scotland. It lies east of Stranraer and south of Newton Stewart. It is known as "Scotland's National Book Town" with a high concentration of second-hand book shops and an annual book festival. Wigtown is part of the Machars peninsula.

Er liegt in den Machars, einer Halbinsel im Süden Schottlands und ist rund zehn Meilen vom Nachbarort Whithorn entfernt. Wegen der Nähe zu Whithorns religiösen Stätten profitierte auch Wigtown im Mittelalter von den Pilgerreisenden, wurde wohlhabend und zum Royal Burgh erhoben. Seit 1998 ist Wigtown Schottlands erste offizielle „Buchstadt“ (Booktown) und es gibt dort mittlerweile rund 10 Buchläden / Antiquare, vorwiegend mit Second-Hand-Büchern. und über 250.000 Büchern. Eine davon kann man für rund 50 Euro pro Tag samt Apartment darüber mieten und im Urlaub kurzzeitig selber Buchhändler spielen. Das Angebot ist für gut drei Jahre im Voraus bereits ausgebucht und mit einer langen Warteliste versehen. Jährlich findet in Wigtown ein zuletzt 10-tägiges Book-Festival statt. (de)
