Guy is in the cave by blood Pillar. Don't attack immidiately. You need the murlock and badger to spawn too. He bugs immune if you attack right away.

So, not hard, when the badger goes red, kill him. The murlock for us went green. Finish off the lich. Get a nice neck piece. :)

We did it 2x, once with a hunter and lock, the next we added a passing DK. The hunter/lock would have been fine but the immune thing. Easily done with two players. (beta 8820)

easly soloable as a lvl 78 mage, however you need a specific talent build (that sucks for anything else aside from soloing this guy)

quick explanation:

-Molten Shields and Frost Warding "stack" wich gives 60% chance to negate the enemy frostbolt while your ward is up. (this makes a HUGE diference, must have)
-Impact gives another 10% chance, since he takes impact, canceling his current cast and probably 1 icelance everytime it procs.
- artic winds, -5% chance to be hit, i noticed around 4/5 bolts missed during the fight, helps, aside from increasing ffb damage.
- Frozen Core, less 6% damage taken from frost, he does only frost damage aside from his melee, DONT counterspell else he will melee making alot of those talents useless and you take more damage in the end.
- Magic Absoption, hey, 78 resistance to frost, since it only has full resists it also gives you mana back, win-win
- Water elemental, helps alot in damage since your damage with FFB will be severly gimped, i was doing 1.7/1.8k hits, wich is... low, but its better to use FFB since it procs impact.

He was immune to frostnova effect.

Tactic:
Put up frost ward, put up mage armor, put up ice barrier, and put up dampen magic. Wait around 30 seconds for frostward and ice barrier cooldown, summon water elemental, and start attacking.

Use only frostfirebolts and keep putting up frostward/ice barrier whenever you can.
Why frostfire bolts? if you use frostbolts you wont be able to proc impact wich helps alot, aside that he is likely immune/resistant to frost (didnt test lol)
Fireballs is a bad idea as you will get oom really fast, unless you are very confortable with your mana regen, but then again with this build fireballs will be horrible.
I would also suggest to take a mana potion and use whenever you can mana gem, this fight takes around 3m but can be draining specially if you dont have any good gear, wich i didnt since this mage is my old main-alt :)

Once he reaches around 30% he will stop attacking and enter "phase 2", his 2 adds get hostile and attack you, simple sheep the murlock-lookalike, and kill the "puppyman", once the "puppyman" is dead the boss is free again, so get up frostward up and re-start nuking him, this time you have the guy you sheeped helping you, and thats about it, enjoy a good necklace.

On a side note, im not sure since already done the quest and cant try, but both of the adds are hostile to you at first, wich leads me to think that you can save either of them, if you choose to kill the murlockalike and save the puppyman its likely that the murlockalike dailies will be unavaiable and unlock the puppyman ones instead, does anyone have any info regarding this?

and lets be honest, i would have saved the puppyman if i thought about this at first, i hate those damn fishes with their constant annoying puking sounds, !@#$es me off. so lets hope you can save either.

Solo'd as a 78 death knight. Unholy spec, 5/11/53 at the time.

I just abused Mind Shatter, Strangulate, and Gnaw (he is immune to none of these). When he has about 40k HP left, he goes immune and you have to kill one of the Gurlocs, which is also easy using interrupts. Death Strike is extremely important, and I had full diseases up all the time.

Soloed as a lvl77 mage, just nuke the first elite down to 30% using ice barrage and frost warding all the time, then choose which one to kill of the second elites, sheep the other one and nuke the other one, use mana pots and gems and evocation. Rest is just nuking.

Soloed it as a level 77 survival hunter using a gorilladin, keeping mend pet up at all times. Had to switch aggro with him a few times while mend pet healed him up.
At one point I used a heavy frostweave bandage while my pet was tanking it to get back some lost hp.

When the two other elites released I had my pet tank the melee one while I did Rapid Fire + Trinket to kill the ranged one, used one runic healing potion during the fight.

After the ranged one died it was a piece of cake, just normal tank and spank.

If you've killed one of the two adds, you can then die/shadowmeld/feign without resetting the fight. You have enough time to come back from the graveyard and the fight will still be going on.

Depending on who you kill during the fight (Gorloc or Wolvar), they open the quest to change faction and consequently their dailies. You can kill the lich again if you want to change faction.

Soloed as 76 ret paladin. Used Frost Resistance Aura (removes 500-600 of his frostbolt damage) and about all cooldowns.

Tactic:

Seal of Command, Blessing of Might and Frost Resistance Aura. Heal yourself whenever you get the Art of War proc, use Divine Plea whenever it's up. If you start to get very low on health you can try to pull of a Holy Light, but you'll might just use Lay on Hands. Around 30% HP the two adds becomes hostile and attack you while the lich himself turns immune.

Repentance one of the adds and if you're low on mana switch to Seal of Wisdom. The lich becomes vulnerable when you kill one of the adds and the other one will become friendly and help you out. Switch to soc and dps the lich down (I had to use DS+Holy Light in this phase).

If there are more than one group/person trying to get this done, make sure that both the Artruis the Heartless and his prisoners have respawned before engaging him. If you tag him straight away he will shield up at 20-30% (as he always will do) but you will have no mob to kill in order to get the shield off him and finnish him off.

The only way to reset him when this happens is to get away from him and out of combat.

It should be noted that when engaging Artruis the Heartless, he will become immune to all attacks at 30% and the two frozen people standing beside him will become unfrozen and attack you.

Depending on who you kill and who you save, that will choose which faction you will ultimately join: The Frenzyheart or The Oracles.

I talked to a GM about this while the quest mob was bugged, asking if we killed him and if we would have to do it separately if one person wanted a different faction than the other from the people in the group. Here is how it works:

For me, after killing the mob everyone in my group wanted to kill, the guy for the Oracles, the little wolf for The Frenzyheart became friendly and then offered a quest after turning the quest in at the urn that drops to the ground after killing Artruis.

You'll notice that the quest you get from the person you save is a daily, as you can choose to switch factions between Frenzyheart and Oracles on the daily basis by going back into the cave and re-killing Artuis and saving whichever of the reputation guys you want.

This will allow you to do dailies for both of the factions and get your reputation up with both of the factions if you choose to do that for achievements.

I hope this helps you so that you don't feel like you were pigeon holed into one or the other of the factions because you didn't know which one you wanted to choose at the time.

Watch your health (holy light at 50%)

Watch your mana (divine plea whenever pops, potions when your mana runs to 0)

Save your cooldowns (bubble for emergency, lay on hands for when mana runs out again)

That oughtta do it, but it'll be close.

Soloable as a 78 BM hunter. Mostly blue Northrend gear and a few 70 pvp epics. Just send your pet in and beat 'em down to 30%, then trap the one you don't want to kill, bandage, switch to Aspec of the Viper and regain your mana as your killing the other. Finish off the lich and your done. :)

Soloable as a Boomkin. Mana regen was the biggest problem, but easily solved by vating early then letting him stay in his shield for a while while mana goes up and cooldowns go down. Drums of restoration helped too. While shield's up, root the melee guy, dps or ignore the guy with the bow. cyclone & bandage to save mana costs of shifting out to heal and back. Mana pot and 2 vates helped.

Solo'd by a 78 Affliction Warlock in green (quest/crafted) gear. The two elites that he spawns are fearable, so that helps a ton. The trouble is dealing with his damage because you can't help but pull threat. I Soul Linked my Void since he has a ton of HP and that worked out really nicely. I kept my dots up, drained some life. When he froze my Void had just died so I Howl of Terror'd the elites, summoned a quickie Inferno to keep them busy, and bandaged. Just kill 'em down, if Inferno dies you should be taking pretty minimal damage which makes resummoning a Void easier. After your chosen add is down, just stay alive and DPS down the big guy.

Arturis is immune to fear and CoT and well you can figure, just not immune to damage. Remember how to survive and it's cake. I'm not the best Warlock and even I managed to pull it off.

Used one Healthstone, and one Major Rejuvenation Potion.

A few things to note about this quest:

1. Discuss who you are killing before the fight starts. I didn't know how the quest worked so I just helped them kill. Finished the quest and found out I needed to do it again to kill the wolf. They didn't want to help me kill again so I had to look for another party.

2. While waiting I found out you can get the daily even having not killed the lich yourself. You just have to hope they choose the same side you want.

3. There's also opportunity for griefers. While you're killing one of them, other players can kill the opposite one, not letting you choose either faction.

This is only partially true. In order to get the quest that starts this chain, you have to pick up the quest from Tracker Gekgek directly after killing Pitch. He accuses you of stealing his kill and demands you make it up to him.

It's easy to miss this if, like I did, you just kill Pitch quickly and fly away to turn the quest in.

I just soloed as a feral druid. You really need nurturing instincts and improved leader for the pack. You fight him in cat form, whenever he freezes you to the ground or gets you below 50% health (whichever comes first) you pop out and heal your self using healing touch to full life. Improved leader of the pack is useful here because you really need the mana to keep healing yourself... It takes a bit of time to kill him.

Soloable as an 80 BM hunter. The pet I used was my 75 Devilsaur that I had just tamed. Basically just tank and spank until the two come to life. I lost the pet once during this and had to use the Phoenix skill to summon a second.

Once the two faction people came to life I sicked the pet on one and CCed the other with a trap. Since the Oracle guy I was killing did not have much dps I was able to heal the pet, put viper aspect on and regen some mana while it was killed. When it finally went down I was about up to full health and mana and the pet was in good shape. You can't wait too long on it though as the main guy will regen while you are fighting.

I finished it off and then burned the named down again. It did take a longish time but it is doable. My gear is quest and normal dungeon blues. I'm sure with an 80 pet it would have been easier.

solo as a lv80 frost mage, pretty easy fight, frostbolt spam w/ pet WE, didnt use cold snap

keep only frost ward or ice barrier up, if run out of cd, u gotta take some hit, with 160 frost resis(magic absorption talent & frost armor), those frostbolt still kinda hurt(1.6k something)

evocated after killing the additional mob for faction choosing, dont forget to keep frost ward or ice barrier up when evocated

might need to take mana gem once depend on gear

Solo as a Lvl 80 DK unholy build running in frost presence. Basically threw everything i could at him...got him down to the required % to release the frozen mobs....I wanted to go with Frenzyheart and so started on the Gorloc.

Didnt realise the frozen mobs that you need to kill either/or were elites too...by this time i had blown any pots and rune tap...magic shell..frostbound fortitude i could ...even had the gargoyle out for what i could do.
In the end the Gorloc took me down...so i ran back as fast as I could, to find ...that the frenzyheart I wanted to speak to at the end was still alive and plinking away with his bow.

I Quickly bandaged and ate what I could, and re-engaged although Raise dead was on CD ...i popped the gargoyle again..another pot/Rune tap and frostbound Fortitude anti magic shell yet again....and eventually took him down.

It is not an easy fight, he will CC or slow you with frostbolts and nova. and has a ton of health.

It was just a little interesting and i didnt realise, that if the frozen mobs you want, hadn't died, then it is still viable to complete IF and only IF , you can get back fast enough.

I dont think for cloth/leather wearers this would be possible with out a group or high damage mitigation

Warlocks: no matter your spec, your Voidwalker should be able to tank it, at least at 80. Watch threat and keep a DoT up on him or whatever and you'll be able to do it. When adds pop, fear the one you want to save and void tank the other.

Used my cooldowns as usual and blew him up, using frost ward to absorb some of his damage as well as dampen. Got him down to 30% in no time and polymorphed the faction mob I wanted to gain rep with (it happened to be the oracle) to kill the other. Mana shielded to evocate (probably unnecessary) during this part and then proceeded to kill him the rest of the way.

You wouldn't. The Daily quest here is designed to swtich between factions, setting you to honored with one and hated with the other. If you choose the faction you are already honored or higher with, you'll receive no additional honor as you already have more rep with them than the quest would have set you to.

It's DPS isn't that high I ended the fight missing 2000hp just using ice barrier and frost ward.

I assume any healing class can probably solo this without much trouble.

A raw DPS class probably can too if they pot and have decent enough gear.

Just solo'd as an 80 Aff/Dest lock. Had my VW gain some aggro on him, healed him until I started my dots, Eventually I pulled, but he doesnt hit very hard. When the 2 adds popped.

I feared the Oracles mob (which I wanted) and just dotted up and owned the Frenzyheart mob. After that I thought I was done.

You do have to kill the Lich after! All my dots were off him so it took a few secs to get them back up. I had to sac my VW for the shield, but I got him.

Solo'd as 79 BM Hunter. Kept Mend Pet up at all times, used Distracting Shot a couple of times to keep the dmg off my pet, and used a Potion of Nightmares. Pretty easy, but don't think many other classes would be able to solo this one, maybe Warlock and DK.

Soloed as a 77 blood DK.

First try I was in my regular PVE gear just testing the waters (roughly 1k dps and 13.8k hp). Like others have said, Altruis doesn't have much DPS so I was able to survive for a little bit.

Second try I came back and decided to wear my PVP gear (slightly less DPS but much more avoidance and health, about 16.5k hp). Blew AntiMagic Shell and Icebound Fortitude as soon as it was up. I also used Dancing Rune Weapon twice throughout the fight with the ghoul being used at the very beginning. I needed one Runic Health Potion before the 30% mark because my runes were up and I couldn't hit Death Strike. After the 30% mark came up I didn't notice her shield for about 30 seconds or so. After killing one of the extras it was fairly easy to keep up the damage. I did blow Rune Tap towards the very end because the thought of a 1% wipe would have made me slam my head through the monitor. The PVP trinket you get from the DK starting area came in very handy was well for when she frost traps you and tries to run away since she's immune to death grip.

Overall, any unholy DK shouldn't have a problem with this with their improved AntiMagic Shell and AntiMagic Zone.

Also, if you have any frost resist gear, I encourage you to put it on being as how all the damage she does is frost. The two little guys on the other hand might be a problem for you then but I highly doubt it.

This CAN, i repeat CAN be solo'd by a mage.

Start with living bomb, then 2 scorches pop trinkets and spam frostfire bolt. Use pots, mana shield, frost barrier, and this is the most important part-- use mirror image when you are low on hp and bandage.

Frost nova the one you don't want to kill then hurry and burn the other dude down.

Mana shield and use evocate then finish off the lich.

Also lucky crits are nice. =)

Better choose your blue reward before doing quest, as after killing Artruis the Heartless, Artruis's Phylactery spawns only for 1 or so minute, and then it's gone, and you have nowhere to turn in quest. And you will need to kill him again.

P.S. it took me too much time thinking, because i was comparing lvl 70 epic healing neck (that was in bank, so i searched it up in wowhead) with this one.

Soloed as a level 79 Frost Mage, 1048 Spelldamage. Used Lifeblood and a Charged Crystal Focus to heal myself. Used a Runic Mana Potion and Evocation to keep mana up, Evocation being used while he were controlling adds, 1 being sheeped.

Just solo'd this as an 80 affliction lock. I had a healthstone as well as putting a spellstone on my staff along with drinking some health elixirs and had some health pots. I sent my voidwalker on Artrius and tried keeping his attention on my VW as long as possible. He doesn't hit too hard and all your life stealing abilities work wonderfully here. The hard part came with the two adds. Immediatly get your voidwalker on the add you want to kill and start blasting away. I used my healthstone as well as a pot towards the middle of this fight because both were on me and hurting, though I am soul linked with my voidwalker so I didn't face all the damage. Blast down the mob you need to kill fast because the other add will turn friendly and help you return to kill Artrius. Towards the end of the Artrius fight I was at about 30% health and just kept draining life until he was dead, with the application of SL or Haunt when I thought I had the health to spare.

Artrius has about 130K health and each add has about 60K.

I soloed him with a lvl 76human Pally (ret) first try

It was really hard for me to survive but i managed to survive until he shielded and released the 2 frozen guys. i used it as a brake to get mana up and heal, I ended up dieing shortly after i killed the wolvar BUT lucky for me he didnt reset because the oracle guy was hiting him. So i made it back before he reset and killed him (just barley surviving).

my point, it is soloable and 76 but it is really hard.

A bear is preferable as this is a one on one fight but my gorilla tanked it fine.. Keep mend pet up the whole time

For unholy DK's 76+ you should already have an routine how to deal with caster elites, here's a quick recap:

- Drop Anti-magic Zone & Corner Artruis on the ledge with your ghoul (but dont fall down). When he novas you, you will still be in melee range.

- Use Anti-magic Shell next to mitigate some spell damage.

- Keep your diseases up, rotate Death Strike

Before the two other elites get released you should already have an idea who kill, focus on that target - rotate diseases & death strike it when possible. Sacriface your ghoul should you need a quick heal. Drink a potion if you need it.

I didnt find this quest very difficult, just a slightly annoying due to Frost Novas.

I am an 80 Exotic Beastmaster with an 80 Spirit Beast. I had my Wiggles attack the lich b***h for a few seconds to get aggro, beastial wrath, kill command, popped my battlemaster's trinkie and my rapidfire, let my pet tank the boss...when I reached the point where she unfroze them, I used freezing arrow to freeze the oracle one and killed the frenzy one, then downed the b***h with a second beastial wrath/kill command/kill shot. Didn't drop below 12k HP with mostly northrend blues.

Since there were no posts for shamans, I thought I'd make one, since I had the good graces to show up just as a GM reset the event after it bugged.

It is quite soloable as a 78 enhancement shaman; I'm mostly in quest blues, some greens and the occasional TBC epic.
Pretty basic; put on my old gladiator gear and shield (for stamina mostly, but since it's a caster mob the shield was ultimately useless, so dual-wield away), put totems down (Mana, SoE and FT) and went to town.
You can't interrupt his spells, so make sure you keep Grounding Totem down as soon as the cooldown is up, since his frostbolts hit for around 2.5k on me. Save your Maelstrom Weapon stacks for instant heals and otherwise heal as needed.
I started off with Spirit Wolves, but do as you wish. However do count on popping most, if not all, of your cooldowns and maybe a pot.

Did this one solo as Unholy Deathknight!

In frost presence, and kept Anti-Magic shield up at starting face and end face. Used Ant-Magic shield when possible. Used pet as tank on the opposite add as the one I was killing.

First time was a wipe at 150 hp :\ Second time was easy:) Keep your Cd's at CD all the time! :) GL

Solo'd as a lvl 80 Prot. Paladin (yes 3 levels higher than the mob in question, but trust me, it's one heck of a fight).

AP: 1842 (also unbuffed)
Aura of Choice : Frost Resistance
Imp Righteous Fury: up (no brainer)
Blessing of Choice: Sanctuary (the extra damage reduction helps.)

The hardest hitting damage Artruis does is Frostbolt. Recorded as hitting for 1132 (with 908 resisted thanks in large part to the Aura). Artruis will also cast Ice Lance which hits for around 357 (287 Resisted) and melee hits for roughly 700 on plate.

Tactic: Normal tank and spank, open with what ever. Get close enough and you'll body pull anyway. Artruis is vulnerable to Exorcism and Holy Wrath (immune to the stun factor though) as well. Heal yourself when you get low. Use Divine Plea early and often. Blood elves, use Arcane Torrent early as you might get a chance to use it twice in the fight. Until the patch, use rank 1 and rank 2 of Shield of Righteousness for extra damage (they are currently on seperate cooldowns). Hand of Freedom when you get frozen in place. By 50%, you will probably start running low on mana since Artruis does mainly spells and the kickback from Sanc won't do anything for you against those. At this point, use a runic mana potion. Keep drilling on the mob til you get it to 30%. The two NPC's in the ice blocks will free up and Artruis becomes immune. Chose your target and start swinging the light all over it's face. At this point you should be running low on HP. Bubble and use Divine Plea (if you haven't already) and heal yourself for as much as you can, saving some mana for offense. At this point both the Gorloc and the wolvar should be hitting you in melee which should provide a good kickback from BoS. The wolvar will net you, just Hand of Freedom out...or wait for it to wear off and use ranged on him. At this point, you should be back to at least half mana when you down your selected target. Artruis will drop the shield and resume attacking you. All attention back to the undead, your saved NPC will now aid you. Unload everything you have. When you get low on health, use Lay on Hands. This will not only regen most if not all your health but alot of your mana too. Now to finish wiping the floor with Artruis and net your new shiny necklace. Hope this helps.

How does this affect you if your reputation is higher than honored with one side?

When you make the switch from the Oracles to the Wolvar, your reputation goes to hated. Now, if you were exalted before, and you go Oracles, Wolvar, Oracles, is your rep set back to Honored or the previous Exalted? And is your "saved" rep level affected by decay, such as when you did Oracle dailies, your Wolvar reputation bottomed out in Hated.

I'm assuming that this was set up so that you could switch between them with minimal loss, but...

Just because a few here say they solo'd this thing, don't get in your mind that it's really doable. I'm sure with these few folks, the stars were lined up just right and it happened for them, but for regular mortals, you're gonna need help. I'm BM hunter, lvl 80 and didn't even come close to pulling this off the two times I tried it. Lost pet both times as well. Don't kid yourself. Bring a buddy.

Solo'd as an 80 Frostfire mage.

It's not too bad. But you might cut it close. Cast dampen magic on yourself, keep frostward up as much as possible, cast Mirror Image when your frostward is on a long cooldown (Artruis will try to take them down first, buying you time). DPS him as hard as you can.

When the adds show up, sheep the one you want to save, Frost Nova the other and step back for a quick bandage. DPS down the one you don't want then put frost ward back on and finish out Artruis.

Tough, but doable. You may need a potion.

If you die the npc you didn't kill will keep fighting until one of them dies, so if you have a way to self res you can still complete the quest even if you die.

It can be solo'd by a good number of class/spec combinations (provided they have decent gear, a high enough level, and they know what they're doing), but that doesn't mean everyone can do it.
If you doubt you can solo it, or you try at least 2-3 times without coming close to finishing, get a group.

Managed to solo as a 79 Night Elf Balance Druid (wearing a mix of Green/Blue quest rewards and dungeon drops; buffed with Mark of the Wild (with 2/2 in Improved MotW), Shoveltusk Steak, Spellpower Elixir and Elixir of Mighty Thoughts (both with Mixology; overall, I was sitting on 975 spell power).
Opened the fight with Force of Nature, then 2 Starfires, Moonfire (glyphed), and Insect Swarm. From then on I spammed Starfire, only stopping to renew MF and IS, or to heal when my health got to about 50-60% (still had to use a potion at one point). I had to use Innervate at about 45%. Took out the Wolvar when he used the shield (rooting Jaloot to minimize damage), then Shadowmelded to drink. By the time I got some mana back, cooldown on Force of Nature was up, so I used it again.

Keep him health funneled and use drain life on the boss

Because it keeps coming up in general on my server, it should also be noted that you must do the entire Frenzyheart/Oracles chain (starting with The Part-time Hunter) up to this quest first before you can kill the lich to change sides. If you've forgotten what you finished in Sholazar and can't seem to find quests on either side to continue the chain, speak to Elder Harkek (if you have Frenzyheart rep) or High-Oracle Soo-say (if you have Oracles rep) to get the quest item that summons whoever it is you're on for your next quest (Gorgek's Shackles, etc). That summoned NPC will be the one with the quest you need next.

Otherwise, you kill the lich and the one you don't want and the other one won't offer you any quests. And then you cry in general and I get to type this out again :)

Seems like no one has said who to kill/save for which faction:

If you want Oracles: Kill Zepic

If you want Frenzyheart: Kill Jaloot

Then accept the quest from the one you 'saved'.

p.s. Choose wisely! If you save the wrong one you'll have to wait until tomorrow to redo it. The quest operates like a daily so it can only be completed once a day.

This quest is currently bugged on Garithos server. Artruis the Heartless is spawned, at about 30% health, immune and has both his frozen sidekicks. Currently, the gorloc is unfrozen and chained to him (hence the immunity) while the gorloc hunter remains frozen. No one in the area seems to be involved with the quest other than myself at the moment, and currently he has been in this state since around noon (it being 10:42pm now). I've even had a GM ticket open since around twelve-thirty, and it's still open! Awesome.

I've tried abandoning the quest, abandoning and zoning, zoning without abandoning, attacking, many different strategies. So far, all I've accomplished is upping my wand skill.

Really fun quest to solo as a frost mage. After trying it a few times and getting smoked a few times until I got it, here's how it worked for me:

Mage armor, Dampen Magic, Frost Ward and Ice Barrier are your best friends. Also, like every other mage in the known universe, Glyph of Evocation helped greatly.

Start off with him with your Water Elemental up and go full throttle until he goes into his shield. Every time you can, refresh Ice Barrier when it breaks, put Frost Ward back up when you can, and spellsteal his icy veins. You won't and can't survive a long time, so you have to burn him to the shield really fast. You should be able to sneak in a full evocate after the cast of one of your Ice Barriers, just have it on cooldown going in.

If you get him to shield himself, sheep whatever one you want to choose (Or, if you're like me and don't care, just sheep the gorloc, the wolvar shoots a bow and does meaningless dps)

It's time to sit on your butt until evocate is back up. Refresh your barrier whenever it's getting low (Wolvar does like 250 a shot, kiting around the gorloc is a bit more of a pain, I did it both ways). and get ready.

When your evocate is coming back up, pop your elemental, your Ice barrier, Cold snap, and burn down the guy of your choice.

He'll come back up now at full health (oh boy) and you'll have to burn through him again. Pop all your cooldowns, they should all be up, and pop a potion/mana gem if you get low on anything.

All in all, one of the more fun quests to solo as a frost mage. :)

Helped quite alot this comment, just the small factor of corpse running and continuing the fight.

Did this myself on a 80 rogue, managed to get him to 30% and killing Zepic (Frenzyheart) but was quite low on HP after that and still had aggro on the boss (Frostbolts :S).

So I died but Jaloot continued the fight, I corpse ran and got there just in time to finish the quest.

Really a helpful tip.

Solo'd this as a 78 Blood Death Knight (armory)

Tips:

Keep diseases up as much as possible.
Use Death Strike as much as possible.
Use all cooldowns, including trinkets. I used rune tap and icebound fortitude many times during the fight, and used mark of blood and dancing rune weapon twice.
When he frost novas you, spam death coil untill you use up your runic power. When frost nova is about to break, use icy touch.
Use Heart Strike only when frost and unholy runes are on cooldown.

I just wanted to say that as a warlock, this quest is actually very easy. All you have to do is get your VW and health funnel. After you get to like 80k threat, start unloading. both adds are fearable, and dont hit for much anyways. med up and drop the boss. I put this quest off for a long time thinking it would be too hard. It's really not

Why was I downrated? -Sigh-

Though clearly a lot of classes are capable of doing this, Rogues are not one of them. Not sure why a comment telling the masses (rogues) not to attempt soloing this was downrated, if only to save on repair bills. Again, unless you're 80 and geared I do not recommend soloing this as a Rogue, not as a Combat one (which I imagine would make it even harder for Sub and Ass) in the very least.

A word of warning. This encounter can be bugged.

Artruis casts this spell on whichever add you attack first - Zepik the Gorlok Hunter, or Jaloot. The spell makes Artruis immune to damage as long as his target is alive, meaning you need to kill his target in order to drop the immunity and down Artruis. If you mistakenly attack the wrong target first, as I did, then down the other one, the spell will remain in place with Artruis still immune to damage. The add you let live is now friendly and cannot be killed. The encounter cannot be reset, either - the add that's still alive continues to attack Artruis, who continues to stand there and be immune. I currently have a ticket out to get the encounter reset.

When i was attacking on both "friends" ive just stunned one of them for 1 minute by repentance killed one and finished by same tactic Artuis.

let the earth elemental tank him through phase 1, which expired just about when artuis froze, then i popped fire elemental and killed off the puppy, after that i finished off artuis with a heal, shock, lvb, ws, heal rotation. Could probaly have kept going for a while as i kept doing constant damage, keeping myself up with heals and never ran out of mana due to ts, ws, mana spring totem.

A little strategy on how to solo him as a Warlock, i did as Affliction at level 77.

Have Fel Armor up, since you will survive through your heals and Drain effects.

1. Have your Voidwalker out, send him to attack the boss.
Once he got the aggro you cast Siphon Life on him, and then keep healing him through health funnel.
As long as you follow this routine and keep your siphon life up, the Voidwalker will keep Aggro the entire fight. It may take long, but it's a rather secure way to get him down. You can associally cast Drain life on Artruis if you'r getting to little heals from your Fel Armor and Siphon Life. Altough in my PvP gear (70 Epic), the loss was minimal.
If you geel that your Voidwalker got a steady hand on Artruis, you can use Drain Mana on Artruis. This will make him go out of mana faster and eventually make the fight easier.
Just keep that routine in Keeping your Voidwalker up as having Siphon Life up all the time. And remember to not pull Aggro, be very carefull with that. And remember to use Suffering whenever the Cooldown are up, since he will not use that Spell automaticly because we are only fighting one enemy.

2. This is when Artruis Shields himself and you are going to choose your Faction.
What i didn't notice was that Artruis stops doing Damage in this Phase, so send your Voidwalker on the guy that you are going to kill, and chain Fear the one that you are going to save.
Now you can Apply all your DoTs and Draintank the guy you are going to kill to death since he dont do that much damage.

3. When you have successfully killed the Guy you are not going to Faction with, Repeat Phase 1.

I had ~1050 Spell power and ~16500HP during this fight. While the HP is not that Important as long as you have enought Spellpower to keep your Voidwalker up and keep your own HP up, which should easely be obtainable with the Equipment you get from Quests in Northrend.

I dont know if anyone else has had this problem... Attempting to solo it right now on my 80 dk of course, but lo and behold I get him down to 27% and he pops his shield, and the two people attack me. I kill the furry dude and supposively that should de-shield him...
BUT NO I'm still attacking him right now while I am posting this. He is still shielded and I cannot attack the gorloc it says hes friendly now. Wtf am I supposed to do, restart?

I put frost resistance totem. And I did whole the time grounding totem > flame shock > lava burst > lesser healing wave > water shield
And sometimes thunderstorm. I didnt used any potions.

With a level 80 hunter its harder tho. I almost died there

77 Affliction warlock in PVE gear. So my HP is good, almost 12K, but not as much as others. No soul link. I SS'd myself, made sure to have a healthstone. Sent my VW in to tank it. Fel armor with siphon life and drain life, along with haunt is essential at least specced the way I am. Eventually my pet lost aggro, so I hit Altruis with all I had, dots, shadowbolts, but ALWAYS keep haunt, SL up. Only threw out shadowbolts when nightfall procced. Otherwise I used drain life. Made it to 30% barely, had to sacrifice the VW at about 40%. Now I don't know if the wolvar is fearable, but the Oracle is fearable. I wanted to save him, so chain feared. Then I killed the wolvar slowly, siphon life, drain life, and haunt only to replenish my life. Wolvar died, didn't take long. Now Altruis came back out and managed to hit me pretty hard, I died, but the Oracle started tanking, I used my SS. Let the Oracle gain some threat, then unloaded with everything I had and downed him pretty quick. Maybe not the easiest way, but I was there and just kind of figured what the hell, might as well give it a shot. Hope this helped.

If you are a nightelf, you can use Shadowmeld after killing Jaloot or Zepic. Jaloot/Zepic is still infight, but you arent, so you can use the time for drinking/eating/firstaid.

Difficult to solo, but not impossible.
I did it on a 77 Hunter after just dinging, I had my cat, Mogget out.
I'm Beast Mastery in quest greens and blues with a few things from instances thrown in.

Now that's out of the way....it's hard.
It's very hard. But possible with a few tricks.
Keep mend pet up (duh) and DPS him as much as you can until your pet (Ferocity hopefully!) gets really low health, pop aspect of the viper and just focus on keeping your pet alive if need be. When he unfreezes his two 'prisoners' freezing trap the one you don't want to kill, preferably, try to put the trap down BEFORE he unleashes the two, that way you can distracting shot it onto you and chain trap it successfully without damaging him. DPS the other down (Frenzyheart in my case).
I did it with lots of use of Ferocity talents, such as Lick your Wounds (used TWICE) and Heart of the Phoenix (used once).

For using HotP, be careful. As soon as your pet dies, all the aggro is lost, try to FD before it dies to drop your aggro as well so you can save yourself. I didn't realize this and was down to 25% health by the time my pet got aggro back. I had to bandage to save myself. It is doable, but I'd recommend taking a group if you're not 80 or well geared. :)

as a level 76 death knight I nearly managed to solo him on my 2nd attempt, but he reset for some reason

update: got him on the fourth try. I am blood spec, I used tank gear (mostly blue). I fought him in blood presence using icy touch, plague strike, heart strike a lot, and rune tap. I also had crazy alchemists potions, that trinket that increases the effectiveness of healing/mana potions, and a lesser resistance flask. I also used death pact, and mark of blood to keep myself healed.

Variation on the BM Hunter solo:
L77 with L76 cat (not an ideal tanking pet, but my tenacity pet was too low level)

See earlier comments for guidelines on tenacity pets. Much of that is also applicable here, but I won't repeat it.

Pet Talents
- Bloodthirsty talent helps with pet healing.
- Heart of the Phoenix allows for easy rejoining the battle.

Strategy
First note that one of the typical complications when facing melee elites is not applicable here: I.e. as soon as you pull aggro for whatever reason, the mob closes range and mucks up your dps.
So, the plan was to:
- Make sure I pulled aggro off my pet when it reached low health.
- I would then cast Mend Pet, and trade shots at range until my pet was ready to go back in.
- I would then Feign Death, and continue.
- I had also intended using a Magic Resistance Potion to mitigate damage.

Results
My first attempt was actually intended to just give me an idea of timing (so I wasn't going to use the Magic Resistance Potion just yet). I.e. How quickly I needed to build aggro, how quickly health would go down etc.
- I sent my pet in, popping Kill Command and Bestial Wrath.
- Using Misdirection, I opened with Steady Shot and Arcane Shot to build a big initial threat on my pet.
- I then raced with my optimal rotation trying to pull aggro.
- You may need a Mana Pot if you go OOM, so keep the option open; I was close enough that I decided to Viper.
- The timing turned out to be perfect (though in a Pinch you can also Cower your pet).
- I was down to just below 50% health before FD.
- I decided to Bandage (remember to keep Mend Pet up) while I could safely do so, and thus also keep Potion cooldowns up.

In this way I was able to reach the 30% mark with plenty mana, health and pet health. That makes phase 2 of the fight much easier; and also then phase 3 is easier :D.

On a side note, I'm going for the Mercenary achievement, but want to ally Oracles for the long run, so I killed Jaloot this first time round. Since Zepik is also a ranged fighter it was a little trickier to Freeze trap him during the fight.

Extra tip: Out of habit I tried to stay close to max range; this is not a good idea - whenever Artruis tries to get range from your pet, you're suddenly out of range. So a tip (also for any ranged dps in a group)... rather stand at about medium range.

This is soloable as an 80 frost mage I popped mirror image, water elemental and icey viens. I made sure I had time to use ice barrier after the cd popped I didnt cc the add. but after the adds I had to pop iceblock then cold snap. icey viens and water elemental to finish it off. pop your mana gem when you need which wasnt necessary for me.

I was able to solo this as a Night Elf 79 shadow priest in quest greens/blues - My strategy

Keep all your dots up with VE on Artius, Since hes a caster you easily heal yourself through the magic damage. If you get too low just pop PW: S and it will heal you up from the VE. When he hits 30% fear and kill your choice(they don't hit had in shadow form, VE will keep you up PW: S if you need), dont let them bandage that is vital. After you kill the one of your choice your best bet is to fade to get Artius on the person of your choice and just regen enough mana to start going all out. Just wait till the NPC of your choice is around 50% - 25% and burst him down. I used my shadow fiend badly as well, I used him at 30% on one of the NPCs which didn't give me maximum potential mana. Also dispersion was used pre-30%, but up all your dots and renew VE to gain back health well taking minimal damage.

-- FOR NIGHT ELVES --
As a night elf i was able to Shadow Meld, I didn't drink and eat but i could have as they were both not faded out when i shadow melded to get him off me and on the NPC.
So as a Night Elf you should be able to shadow meld after you kill the NPC at 30% and drink/eat and it will be easy from their. Until they nerf shadow meld and it doesn't take you out of combat.

I soloed this as 78 Beast Mastery hunter a few months ago, using a core hound as pet.

Found great tactic for healing, shoot a distracting shot to him and pet can have its health regenerated (mend pet) with no problems. Artruis doesn't do any too high damage (3 sec cast frostbolt) so you should be fine "tanking" him for the 6 seconds of taunt. And as taunt goes off, lich will attack pet again due to greater aggro. Remember to use your feign death!

Just soloed this as a level 80 Arcane mage.
Not too tough, just wiped first time, learned how to fight him

It's pretty simple, make sure you have either frost ward or mana shield up and use either mage armor or ice armor for resistance. What i did:
Nuked him with 3x Arcane Blast + Arcane Barrage or Missile Barrage and made sure to have shield up.
When I had to choose faction, i just used my Mirror Images to take aggro from Jaloot while i killed Zepik.
At this time, my mana had run out, so i used a mana sapphire and evocation, then started the fight with Artruis again and killed him.

Completed the daily Hand of the Oracles and picked up Return of the Friendly Dryskin.

Is easily killed as an elemental shaman. I was lvl 77 at the time, and never went below 50%. Make sure you don't wait to long with healing yourself and keep that grounding totem up.

The two adds are real simple. More so because only the oracle will come in melee combat. Since he doesn't hit that hard, keeping water shield up makes him a handy mana-battery.

Great. Just great. I'm soloing him on my 79 prot pally. I get to the part where you have to choose who to kill. I kill the Frenzyheart just for Artruis to remain immune and impossible to kill.

Very easily soloed as a 80 mage.

Always keep frost ward up, place 2 scorches living bomb and start nuking like hell (dont forget mirror image) until you reach 20%. Meanwhile renew frost ward and keep your nuking.
At 20% he goes imune and the 2 adds come alive, sheep the one you want to level your reputation with and nuke the other one (both are CC and snareable).
After he's dead, the lich comes back up, finish him off and you're done.

Mana shield is your friend :)

EASILY soloed as a 77 BM hunter.

Ran out of mana and had to use Aspect of the Viper, but Mend Pet kept the pet full health (2/2 Spirit Bond + 2/2 Blood of the Rhino + 2/2 Pet Barding).
Managed to finish the quest with my gorilla having full health.

Have in mind it's soloable, because I waited 2 days for a party to do it just to find out I could solo it.

Balance druids in quest gear will have little trouble soloing this, I did at 77 with about 1k SP.

Nuke the everloving crap out of him to get to 'phase 2', tag the mob of your choice and root the other. I was OOM at this point, if you are too then use your clearcasts wisely and don't be afraid to melee a bit. Take your time, just survive it.

Your treants and the friendly NPC will be able to DPS Altruis down for phase three. Just stay alive and you'll be fine.

If, you play your Runes correctly that is ... He doesn´t hit for much more then you heal with your Death Strike.
I had to pot 1 healingpot though, but ended up at 70% health when he died.

Soloed this as a level 78 ret pally.
I was using seal of light, blessing of kings, and frost resist aura (using the trinket from the war on undercity quest to heal you)

Aggro the guy and keep applying judgement of light whenever its up. Dont use consecration as this burns your mana.
Keep hitting him until he gets weak, using as little mana/heals as possible. Use blessing of freedom to get rid of his snare when you can though.
If you have it, use the trinket from the undercity war quest to heal you and use this as soon as possible so you can use it later on.

At 30% or so, he will make you choose your faction. I sided with the oracles and decided to kill the hunter npc. Use repetance on the faction you're choosing at all times so he wont interfere. Just keep hitting the hunter npc and use divine plea if you are low on mana (this guy doesnt hit that hard)

Once he is dead, you will now have Jaloot helping you kill the lich. Just burn him down and you have completed the quest.

This guy looks like he could be tough, but should be soloable for any healing class with staying power. His frostbolts hit for about 2k (2.5k if you're his level and don't partially resist a lot), so if you have big, slow heals you can outheal his dps since he casts slowly.

I did it as a holy spec priest without even breaking sweat (so non-specced healing classes like shadowpriest/enhance sham/ret pally etc should be fine).

My tactic:

Holy fire, SW:P, Devouring Plague, Smite, Smite is all you need to open with. Once you've done this, just keep refreshing SW:P and DP when they expire and use holy fire when it's off cooldown. Dispell his icy veins buff when he puts it up. I kept a renew rolling on myself and topped up after two frostbolts with a greater heal.

When he goes immune and the adds come, make sure they're both nearby to you and use divine hymn to stun them, then nuke down the add you want to kill. The wolvar is ranged, so if you want to stun him with your hymn just run towards him a little first. If you nuke the add relatively hard (ie, keep smiting while holy fire is on cooldown) and keep a renew on yourself the add should die soon after the hymn stun breaks on the other add. I'm not sure if the adds are fearable, but now would be the time if you need more time to kill the add you're on and the second one has woken up.

When the add's down, go back to your phase 1 rotation on the Lich. If your mana regen is low, use your shadowfiend on the add so you've got something left in the tank when the lich starts frostbolting you again.

Solo'd this as a level 80 Arcane Mage. Very easy, just make sure to pop PoM early, then slow him, then pop trinkets and Spell Power and Icy Veins. Also make sure to use Frost Ward and Mana shield. Then when the 2 elites attack you, (I went with oracles) so I poly'd the Frenzyheart guy and frost nova'd the Oracle. I used this time to Evocate and then I burned down the Frenzyheart until he was dead. I popped a healing potion and then killed Artuis.
Quest complete! :D

Soloed as a level 80 54/17 affliction warlock. Send the void walker in first, using torment and suffering to build up aggro. Health funneling to him when he gets hit, and keeping siphon life and corruption up on the mob at all times. If you go slow and steady, you won't pull aggro. Don't hit him with anything else except for siphon life and corruption. When he gets to 30%, DoT the mob you want to kill, then fear the other, and kill the DoT'd mob. Keep fear up on the one you want to save. Then back to the same thing you did on the lich before. Good luck.

Just soloed as a lvl 76 unholy death knight. I made sure to use everything I had and death strike as often as possible. When I was at about 5k hp, and it was almost impossible to heal up with death strike, I sacrifaced my ghoul. Then the elites popped up, I used chains of ice on one of them, and killed the other healing with deathstrike. So on, I continued killing the boss, I summoned a new ghoul, and again, at about 5k hp I sacrifaced my ghoul. Then everything went ok and I managed to kill the lich. This was all done in my first try.

Just soloed this as an 80 feral druid. My gear is pretty horrible as I am mainly a resto healer but I respecced to finish up the Sholozar Basin. Just came in as kitty to load up a 5cp rip and switched to bear. The boss often runs away to cast frostbolts and I used these opportunities to throw up the hots before I continued whittling him down with Lacerate and mangle/maul. Once he hit 30% and the adds spawned I chose my target and continued to finish him off in bearform. These two adds do not hit very hard so being in bear I was able to mostly heal myself with Improved Leader of the Pack. Very simple for feral druid even with terrible gear.
Hope this helps any droods having trouble.

Soloed quite easily (I was surprised!) as an 80 affliction warlock. Used one runic mana pot and that's it!

I just kept Corruption and Haunt current on Artruis along with Unstable Affliction and Curse of Agony and channeled Drain Life while I was waiting for those to run out. My imp was on passive and so took/delivered zero damage, just offered the stam buff.

I did have a stam scroll on and was well-fed (+46 spell power/+40 stam), but am in all quest blues and a few low-level dungeon blues (UK and the like).

I was relieved to see it was soloable as I can't imagine trying to find a group when I want to switch factions. I'm mostly a solo player.

I was actually in the process of trying to solo this as a 77 Prot Warrior. I did well, I got him down, and killed Jaloot, and then died. Running back, Zepik was still in combat, so I was able to jump back in after rezzing and eating, but after getting down about halfway again... Artuis EVADE-BUGGED, and despawned on me! Spell-Reflecting his Frostbolts does WONDERS. It's just too bad he's not interruptible, or this would actually be fairly cake.

Soloed this as a 77 Elemental Shaman with very low hp (less than 10k).

I just put my totems down, dropped earth elemental to tank while I popped all my CDs (lust, orc racial, trinket, elem. mastery) and just pummeled down the boss with my dps while making sure to keep myself up from the occasional frostblast from the guy.

Once I was able to choose which guy to kill I was almost out of mana and almost ready to die... I had no pots, but I got the frenzyheart guy down quick enough (thunderstorm saved me getting the oracle off me as well as giving mana).

Once you are back to the 3rd phase in which you kill Artruis you are home free. As I was still nuking him he finally killed me as I ran out of mana and I simply used Ankh to bring myself back as he fought the oracle guy, keeping him in combat. This allowed for me to finish off the boss and complete the quest even after dieing.

Soloed this on a lvl 78 2/42/25 warlock with Engineering (Use: Haste glove enchant and the +SP/Absorb trinket).

Standard elite fighting tactics with letting the FG build up threat, then nuking and weaving in Health Funnel for Frostbolt hits and when the FG hit ~50% HP.
Only thing to add is: Fear the whichever add you want to gain standing with, nuke the other.

I didn't even break a sweat.

Solo'd as a level 78 ret pally in meh gear.

Healed on every Art of War proc, judged wisdom every time it was up, used everything that could proc art of war whenever they were up. When he frost nova'd, used freedom and chased him, which sometimes caused him to attempt to run farther, buying more time. If he started frost bolting, and no instant that could proc Art was up, I started FoLing.

Try to keep him in melee as much as possible, and while I was not smart enough to do it at the time, looking back, Frost Resist aura would have been awesome here. Doh!

Only cooldowns used were Avenging Wrath. Didn't need the bubble or LoH.

Edit: Forgot to add, repentance the one you aren't going to kill.

Solo'd on my 77 Frost Mage.
I had to keep frost ward and ice barrier up most of the fight and for the spaces between their cool downs i used mana shield.

I used mage armor to save mana and used 2 mana gems over the fight. You have to use the first mana gem early to have the second or even third use of it later in the fight.

When lafoo and the frenzieheart guy came out i ice blocked and let my water elemental take aggro from everything and then killed Lafoo on my own, when the fight started back up it's just the same as before, keep frost ward up and ice barrier.

Fight took a little over 5 minutes. You can spell steal his icy veins buff. It's all about managing cool downs and not going OOM.

It took me 3 trys, so if you are looking to do this efficiently, I would recommend getting another person to help lol.

Soloed this easily as an 80 Frost mage. It shouldn't be too hard even if you are lower level.

My strategy:
Put up dampen magic, ice barrier, mirror image, and water elemental. Pop trinket and begin doing damage to him. He only casts frostbolt and doesn't physically attack you unless you get close. Frost ward might be helpful but I didn't need it. You can also spellsteal icy veins off of him. Once he gets down to 30% HP, polymorph one of the two enemies that come after you and begin attacking the other one. He should go down easy enough, and then you can finish him off no problem.

Also, if you start to get low on mana use your mana gem, and you should be able to use evocation after you kill one of the two mini-elites.

It wasnt that hard really, took him on my first try.
Just try to let your felguard hold aggro, dot the boss and health funnel. When I got aggro I spammed incinerate a little bit then popped soulshatter.

Just heal your felguard and dot the boss, I was a little bit low at mana and health at the end but I made it.. used drain life a little bit at the end =)

The only thing he'll do is cast Frostbolts that hit for ~2.5k damage. Between Grounding Totem and Earthshock he doesn't have a chance.

For any warlocks out there, this is too easy. I am leveling with the SL/FG spec, and my pet and I were at full health, at the end of this.

I start every fight with a Life Tap (glyphed), and then throw on Corruption and Curse of Agony (both talented). Then I Shadow Bolt spam, until my FG needed some heals.

Repeat for a couple minutes, kill the add, and finish off boss.

Soloable as 77 Affliction lock with ease finished with full health. I sent in my VW but pulled aggro almost immediately, the lich never really hits you with anything you cant out heal, just haunt and drain life the whole time. When he gets to 30% he bubbles, I was at 40% at this point and sent my void into the frenzyheart guy but picked up aggro on both mini elites. With both factions hitting my VW they never really did much damage. I read a post where a lock feared the oracle guy to keep him busy but it really wasn't necessary. Once the frenzyheart guy went down, with me back at 100% health and mana I dumped everything on the lich. With me, my VW and the oracle guy the lich went down pretty quick.

Does Artruis cast some kind of silencing spell? After I (lvl 80 ret pally) killed the Frenzyheart mob, Jaloot and I got Artruis down to just a sliver of HP (his HP were low enough that I'd already hit him with Hammer of Wrath once, so he was now probably at 10% or so), and then for no reason that I could figure out, suddenly none of my spells would go off. I tried to hit him with an Exorcism, tried another HoW, tried to cast a Judgment on him, and finally in desperation I tried to cast Healing Touch on myself. Every spell just made that "fail" sound. I wasn't OOM. I went down, and Artruis' HP were so low that by the time I ran back Jaloot had finished him off and I couldn't complete the quest. It was extremely frustrating knowing that all it would have taken to kill Artruis was just one more Exorcism or HoW, but the spells wouldn't go off.

Also, and I don't know if this is a bug or what, but while Jaloot and Zepic were attacking me (I targeted and was trying to kill Zepic), my target kept changing. I'd have Zepic targeted, be hitting him with my spells and whacking him with my weapon, and then I'd look up and see that I somehow had Jaloot targeted. So I'd grab my mouse, desperately click on Zepic to re-target him, go back to attacking him, and then once again I'd suddenly find myself attacking Jaloot! This happened 5 or 6 times during the fight. Note that all my attacking was being done with keyboard controls, not the mouse, so I wasn't accidentally clicking Jaloot. It got extremely frustrating, because every time I had to retarget Zepic, he was back to full HP.

Strategy:
With Blood of the Rhino, Glyph of Mending and Sprit Bond your mend pet heals 1832 every 3 seconds, easily outhealing anything the lich can dish out. Viper sting (since he has almost 40k mana) whenever able keeps your mana just about full even when spamming steady shot and shooting arcane shot. Once the second phase begins and he becomes invulnerable Freezing Trap whichever one you don't want to kill and keep mend up on your pet as you send it to the other. Burst the Gorloc or Wolvar down (whichever one you choose) and right before the other one breaks out of Freezing Trap, misdirect an arcane shot onto it to cause it to attack your pet instead of you. From here the fight is easily doable. Just shoot the lich and keep mend pet and viper sting up as best as you can.

Solo'd as a 77 elemental shammy. Pretty simple:

Phase 1(boss):

Keep flame shock up, always use lava burst when u can to resive clearcast, than use lightning bolt. every third spell should be lesser healingwave to keep urself alive. Use earth elemental @ around 80k and nuke it hard until second phase - no need to heal it(the earth elemental).

Phase 2(adds): After phase 1 you should be low on mana, this is easily fixed by not rushing the phase. The adds hit weak so use water shield and regen, I also strongly recomend that u use a mana pot to reach atleast 70 % mana for pase 3 if u have one.

Phase 3(boss again): This phase is short and should be no problem, just do as first phase.

I have low experience as a elemental shaman but still found this pretty easy. Just make sure u keep ur health up in phase 1 & 3 and that u dont rush through phase 2.

Totems: Stoneskin - Totem of Wrath - Wrath of Air - Mana Spring.

Soloed it as a level 80 affliction warlock, although to be honest, I don't think it matters what spec you are.

I used my voidwalker to tank this mob. I threw curse of element of him, and I only used corruption and my wand to dps him. Just spam health funnel whenever necessary, it definitely helps to have improved health funnel because of the increased healing and damage reduction. If you need mana, you can either life tap or drain his mana. If you drain his mana, he can no longer cast frost nova or frost bolt anymore, so I found it to be useful. Since I'm affliction, I was able to regain health from my corruption (siphon life talent), but even if you aren't a quick bandage or life drain (regardless of spec) should be able to help you regain the minimal health loss from channeling health funnel. This is a pretty slow method because of the voidwalker's inability to actually hold aggro well. I used curse of element because this guy is a lich and I assumed he had decent shadow resistance. This reduces the chance of him resisting torment, but curse of weakness might be preferable if you don't have improved health funnel. If this guy isn't immune to curse of tongues (I didn't test it), you could consider using that too unless you happen to drain all of his mana.

When he hits 30%, put the voidwalker one one of the mob, and chain fear the other. You can repeat the above method to kill whichever one you don't want reputation with, but it's a pretty slow method. I just drain tanked once and chain feard the other since I'm affliction. I took advantage of the voidwalker's sacrifice to help me with this. Since aggro doesn't reset after the lich's shield, just put the voidwalker back on him after you've killed whoever. At this point, the voidwalker most likely has generated enough aggro to allow you to burst down/full dps the last 30% of his health, but it doesn't hurt to be careful.

Just as a note, I actually use this method to solo almost all the of the mobs that normally require groups. Even elites that have 200k health can be pretty easily soloed with this, especially if you have improved health funnel. It just takes awhile, but it beats trying to gather a group in my opinion.

Very, very easy to solo. Soloed as a poorly geared 80 moonkin. Just be in humanoid form and put a hots on yourself once in a while. Second phase cast roots on the wolvar or gorloc. When the wolvar/gorlac is dead kill the undead.
Pretty simple and easy. He barely does damage.

i just soloed this as a level 80 FFB Mage..

i used mage armor and kept my frost ward up and used a health pot, and mana shield..

i got him to 30% or whatever, and he bubbled himself and the 2 other npcs got active. i killed the wolvar, and sheeped the oracle, and when the boss reactivated i took him to 15K health, and died.

i ran back quickly and he was still fighting the oracle. i finished him off and completed the quest

It is soloable as a lvl79 resto drood (couldn't do it as feral). just keep a moonfire up and wrath/moonfire. remember to barkskin every possible time and save some mana for healing.
Expect a 10/15 min fight. I had to use a mana pot and innervate 3 times.

Theres a shortcut to the ledge if you have a flying mount, as you enter the cave immediately on the left above the path there is a hole in the wall, which is there as a quick way out.

You can fly into the cave and go straight up, and skip the walk through the cave and all the scourge mobs.

One VERY important note I discovered. In an attempt to solo this I was able to widdle down the boss until the shields went up and was then able to kill the desired Wolvar sidekick, however once that was accomplished I was completely out of mana and the boss went back to full strength and killed me instantly.

IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU... RUN BACK TO YOUR CORPSE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. You have not failed yet. Altruis will still be there and you will have an excellent shot at finishing the quest.

It's very difficult to randomly find people in the basin to assist you in this quest, so this may be your only option.

Soloed by me (lvl 78 destro lock) although it was very hard. Tried 2 times. Used my voidwalker and sacrificed some of his health for shield, then i used pot, health stone and Life Blood. When he got to 30%, things got alot easier, since he stopped attacking and the other two does not deal as much dmg as him. I feared the frenzyheart and used Lifedrain on the murlock with my VW tanking. Created a health stone to use when the fight with the lich continued, and by that time my Life Blood cd was gone and me and my demon got almost 100% mana and health back (lifetap and drain life). Then i nuked the lich down quite fast.

So, it is possible to solo this quest, but I recomend you to bring a friend. :)

The trick is to time your innervate cooldown. The fight should take around four minutes (at least it did for me) and you want a nice innervate to keep your mana up so you can heal after you have killed the wolvar/gorloc.

Luckily, his frostbolt does not hit that hard, and he doesn't cast them that often, so a simple regrowth/rejeuv combo ticking on you will be enough to keep you alive, with perhaps a stack or two of lifebloom if you get below 50%.

When he releases the two adds, make sure to cyclone (and then later root) the minion you do not want to kill. I am not sure about the Gorloc, but the Wolvar bandages, so make sure to interrupt that with a warstomp or a typhoon. Cast Force of Nature when when the add you want to kill is at around 50%, so that your trees can beat him down and then help you with Artruis. Keep moonfire, insect swarm and faerie fire on him and he goes down easily.

If you do get unlucky and die, you can still run back. The add that you freed has around 40k health and is more than capable of tanking him for the 60 seconds it takes you to run back. Make sure you do around 10k damage to Artruis however, or else you may not get credit for the kill.

The quest reward is good, and may serve as a replacement to Zul'Drak's Choker of Betrayal, although Pendant of Shadow Beams for Zuramat is the best cast necklace at this level.

After 3 tries, I'm giving up trying to solo this as an Elemental Shaman (76). Essentially, I will always run out of mana before he dies, due to the frequency of having to heal myself. Those who suggest the Oracle and Wolvar don't hit hard are flat out lying - while they don't deliver 2k nukes like Altruis, they melee quite quickly and - between them - probably dish out DPS that's not much lower.

Altruis himself cannot be interrupted, so your only choice is to heal through his damage. The only thing you really can do to annoy him is to dispell his Icy Veins buff, if you have a spell capable of doing so.

Soloed this on my level 76 BM hunter today, its not that hard you just need to keep Mending pet and and using http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=19574 and http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=34026 when every you can. I had a Core Hound so http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=53426, I really dont think i could have done it without this move.

I ended up having to do it 2 times because the first time i got him to about 6000 heath, but i guess i pulled him to far so he reset. The second time i actually got him. The first time i did not need http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=55709, but i ended up needing it the second time.

if you are going to try and solo this, you really need http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=53426 and probably http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=55709, just in case. I would also recommend http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42900.

Also be careful when the oracle and the frenzyheart join the fight, and make sure your pet is attacking the right one, i wanted to go frenzyheart, so i put my pet on passive before the fight then manually made him attack the oracle.

soloed as a 76 ret pally using JOL and SOL, slow fight, had to heal a bunch of times but it was not hard at all for killing a mob with 136k hp.

tip: the best time to heal is when he freezes you and runs away to cast, gives plenty of time to heal up.

another thing to add, i do have heirloom shoulders, chest and bloodied arcanite reaper weapon, don't know how much better they are than normal items for my lvl but they probably helped a little.

Solo'ed today as an 80 prot paladin - fresh 80 all blues, nothing fancy. It was an endurance test, for sure, but as long as you keep an eye on your health and mana you should have no trouble, especially if you're geared properly and have a good amount of stam and patience. Or, lacking stam, a TON of DPS.

Prot spec is my secondary and exists only thanks to some friends who muscled me into tanking one day, so my apologies if this is against the norm, but this is what I used and it worked for me:

Ret aura, blessing of sanctuary, seal of wisdom were my buffs, along with my Draenei racial. I began by popping avenging wrath and exorcising Artruis. Judgment of wisdom, avenger's shield, shield of righteousness, hammer of the righteous, judgment of light, exorcism first thing when I was frozen and he backed away so I could avoid interrupts. Blessing of Freedom, rinse, repeat.

Of course, throughout all of this I kept holy shield up, had enough time to pop avenging wrath twice more plus a divine shield to heal up. Everything possible you can do as a prot paladin to maximize your output and minimize your input you should keep up at all times. I probably should have had devo on, but as a normally-specced Retadin it was force of habit to have ret up. Didn't seem to be a problem, though.

I did use LoH once, though I probably didn't need to; I'm just paranoid. I'm probably forgetting something, but that's the gist of what I did ;3 Hope this helps someone.

Just solo'd this on my 78 BM/MM hunter.

It was quite simple really, i just used my trusty rhino AnalRapist, you can easily outmend the DPS the lich does. so its really just keeping aggro away from yourself. once he goes 30% he will make a shield, become immune to all dmg and send two guys at you. simply trap one and then kill the one of wish to be hostile towards to.

once you finish you'll open a new series of daily quests with the faction you did not kill.

Man, I just soloed this and I'm surprised I didn't die.
As an 80 hunter, I sent my pet to tank, and all I did was heal it. Every now and then I did a few extra shots, I ran out of mana so I had to put aspect of the viper. Then (I didn't know the dynamics of the whole puppy /gorloc kill/save stuff) I got confused and by mistake let my cat die. I had to feign death.
I came here, give this a read and went to do it again. Same stuff, sent the cat to tank it, I healed him, do some extra shots, killed the puppy dude, and managed to stay above 6k.

It is possible to be soloed as a hunter, but it will take a little bit longer to kill both the boss and the gorloc/puppy.

No special gear apart two enginering trinkets (sound and noise machine) and epic engi helmet, rest of the gear was mainly Q blues and greens

Started fight with earth elemental, managed to beat lich to 50%, then popped wolves and my racial (orc wtf) and the rest of cooldowns including bloodlust. Then those two lackeis started attacking me, killed puppy men with ease, while Wolves provided healing i needed.

Id suggest to save Shamanistic Rage for when wolves and elemental are down and lich has few HP left, because you will need that mana and dmg reduction

In this encounter the Boss has 139K hp i believe it is and the two mobs Jaloot and Zepic each have 45k hp.

Soloed as a 76 Demo lock, keep dots up on the boss, health funnel felguard, lifetap for mana (i have glyph of lifetap), and drain life, repeat till boss is down to 30% then focus on killing the one you dont want rep with, (Frenzy or Oracle), and fear the other.

At this point get back on the boss and finish Him / Her off. Dont forget to complete the quest and pick up the next one.

I am surprised that nobody mentioned that the options to save the Gorlock or the Wolvar really don't make any sense. When doing the quest chain you have made efforts to make peace with the Wolvars but they have refused. You've also been doing quests to help the Oracles, which make you feel close to them.

So what kind of person would suddenly turn on their new friends and help somebody who has already said that they want nothing to do with you?

In other words, the game doesn't give you any story reason for making you want to save the Wolvar.

Soloed this as a lv 77 prot pally. Killed him with an inch of my life left. I had Seal of light and greater blessing of sanctuary active for buffs. Just keep hitting Hammer of the righteous, shield of righteousness, judgement of light, holy wrath, and divine plea.

When you're frozen in place it would be an opportune time to cast exorcism. When you're frozen and really low on health hit divine shield and heal. If you have no mana then use a potion. If you have no potions then hit LoH.

The 2 frozen mobs are really easy. Just keep judgement on the one you're trying to kill while hitting hammer and shield of righteous.

Soloed as a 78 frost mage, just use your cooldowns such as ice block and invisibility at the right moment. For an instance: iceblock when you have low hp/mana and let the boss aggro your elemental, then evocate and youre good to go! Also, avoid using manashield if your mana cant handle it. Try to refresh your ice barrier and frost ward ONLY when they've ran out to maximize the absorb effect.

When the adds come in, Poly the one you dont wish to kill and then kite the other one, they do #$%^ty damage so it should be OK! When youve killed either the "puppy men" like the oracles like to speak of them or the "long tongue" its safe to use invisibility and then bandage/evo and at this pont the boss should have about 15% health and youre ready to trinket/icy veins to nuke him down.

Finished the fight with relative ease and got left with about 40% mana and 70% health.

edit4: i had glyph of evo so i could use both evo and bandage for healing purposes. Also remember that you got potions and mana gems wich i think(correct me if im wrong) dont share cooldown

Soloed very easily as a level 78 ret spec'd paladin in a full holy set (almost all blues; just 2 greens, and the chest, shoulders, and trinkets were boa gear).

I probably could've done it in ret gear, but I wanted to be in holy gear just to be safe. Used seal of vengeance, blessing of might (imp.), and concentration aura.

When the 2 adds came out to attack me, I repentanced one and killed the other just as the cc wore off.

In my holy gear and ret spec, I had 1060 ap, 12k health, 14k mana, and 1222 sp.

Just keep up your basic rotation and use art of war procs on flash heals instead of exorcism when you need them. Start casting your holy lights at around 30% health; don't wait too long or he may get off a good hit and kill you.

When one add is repentanced and the other is on you, wait until you get low enough to cast a holy light and then cast it to top yourself off, then use divine plea if you need a bit of mana. Better to use divine plea when you're killing whichever faction member you don't want to be a part of than to use it while you are killing the lich, b/c you may need the healing.

I judged wisdom, btw.

Level 77 Shadow Priest

My tactic was to eat some food I had from previous northrend quests and buff all I had. I only had about 1.1-1.2k spellpower. Just throw up all DoTs use MB when off CD and mind flay, once a dot goes off recast it. You may need to pop shadowfiend while getting him down.

In Phase 2 he iceblocks. Group up and fear them and nuke the one you want with same DPS tactic as above, I used a runic mana potion at this point.

Then use very same dps tactic on boss once he un iceblocks and use dispersion once low on mana.

The key here is to keep PW:Shield up every single time you lose Debuff then vampiric embrace should keep you at 100%

Finished on 92% hp
32% mana

EDIT: Forgot to say pop trinket(s) at start upon pull. Luckily I was a troll so I also had the 20% haste.

If you're looking to complete 'Into the Basin' achievement and are unable to find a group for this or do it alone, it's possible to just skip it. You can get 75/75 quests without this if you've completed the chain that leads up to it.

Just a quick note for those who are trying to dispel his Frost Nova: don't. Had to redo the fight twice because Artruis floated all over the place, eventually evaded and despawned. It doesn't seem to happen if you just wait it out. As was mentioned above, use the downtime to heal or something.

Tried three times in ilvl174-ish blues to solo this as a 78 feral druid, and couldn't do it. Second time he bugged out when he went invulnerable and completely despawned on me. FIrst and third times I got him all the way down to the 'choose your path' phase, but I just couldn't keep up the damage while fending off two elites at once while in bear form, and I would've been reamed in cat.

Maybe soloable in higher gear/at a higher level, but with all the gimmicks going on in this fight (Immunity to CC, boss constantly moving back, Frost Nova) I found this utterly unsoloable, as someone who routinely solos group quests.

Best bet is to grab a friend or two and roflstomp him, and be done with it :(

Just keep up Mend pet at ALL Times.
Then just use your normal shot rotations, swapping to viper when you go oom.
In phase 2 (when you choose a path) just trap the one you're not going for. Good luck!

This can be solo'd as a protection paladin of course. Just be sure to use frost resist aura while fighting the Lich, as well as Judgment of Light and Seal of Light. I switched to devotion aura while fighting the frozen mobs, and I forgot to switch back to frost resist when returning to the Lich fight and lost a good bit of health but it was otherwise an easy (but time-consuming) fight.

It's fairly safe to use Judgment of Light and keep Divine Plea up; one doesn't need the extra healing since at level 79, frost resist aura helped avoid a great amount of damage.

Soloable as a 77 arcane mage, though it took a few attempts to get it down (mainly due to the reset mechanics for the encounter). The challenging part is the first phase, getting Artruis down low enough to Ice Block and pop the others out before he kills you. I had Frost Warding and Icy Veins in my build at this point, so luck may have been a factor in getting some of the spells reflected. The key here is Dampen Magic, Glyph of Evocation, and starting the fight after allowing the CD on Frost Ward to tick down a bit (to 15 sec or so). Pop all your CDs during this phase, and burn him down. You can Blink away to get out of range of a Frostbolt long enough to get most of an Evocation to heal and restore mana.

Once the second phase starts, sheep the NPC you're not going to kill, Slow the other and drop it. They don't hit very hard. Just before it dies, put up Frost Ward again, allow the other to get threat on Artruis, pop Invisibility, and then you'll be able to eat/drink to full before re-engaging. Easy fight after that.

What you have to be careful of is kiting too far out (it doesn't take much to reset the encounter), and you also can't be too far from the Oracle/Wolvar once they pop out or it will also reset.

As an 80 Rogue in a couple pieces of T9 this guy still hit pretty hard.

It took me 2 tries to kill him.

When the adds start attacking, I blinded the one I wanted to save and took out the other (they are NOT immune to stuns, unlike the boss). After he died and the other npc started helping me fight, I vanished and let him tank for a bit while I bandaged. (Make sure you move AWAY from the lich before you bandage or the frost nova will get you. Then it was just bam bam stabby stab death and that was that.

Solo'd as a 78 Holy Priest, however, wasn't all that easy.
Took a Int + Spirit pot as Guard Elixir, and some stats buff as Battle Elixir. Had doubts about that Battle Elixir, but didn't have much other herbs on me.

In the beginning, I went nutz, Holy Fire, Devouring Plague & Shadow word. Combined it with Inner Focus to spare mana.
Regen with Renew, occasional Lifeblood and Arcane Torrent. Popped Shadowfiend during first fight.
Good regen kept me going awhile, but as soon as I reached 3k Mana or so, I started wanding him.
Didn't use anything except Renew + Plague if my Inner Focus was up.
Took a while, but got him down to 30%. So then part 2 =(

Same tactic, but used Psychic Scream to have some breathing room. Wanding alone was very slow ( was killing Zepik and he bandaged from time to time ) , but Shadowfiend helped. Always made sure that I had enough mana reserve.

After finally killing Zepik, the 3rd phase was pretty much the same again. Ofc, due to Jaloot's help, it didn't take all that long . Used Fade twice to get a break from damage for a second.

Oké, so I saved the Lizard thing, and the Lich lay dead on the floor. Jaloot wasn't interactable, but neither was the ehrm .. magic looking box. Quest log said I didn't kill him =( . Tried dozen times, but no avail.

Moved away after a while, just to be safe. Lich respawned, and Quest not complete. Cried a river. Threw mouse against wall =(

I got it on my first try too and here is how...

Tactics:

I just place down my Strength of Earth Totem, Fire Elemental, Healing Totem, and my Windfury. I poped my shamistic Rage and DPS the heck outa the boss (no heroism) and used my free cast on my Healing wave. Then when she sheilds herself I poped Wolfs then I poped heroism. I then told my wolves to attack which ever one I wanted (in this case the wolve looking add). Then Right afterwards you tell it to attack the boss. You shouldn't have any problems as long as you keep your heals up and Dps up aswell.

This is soloable as an enhancement shaman. Just finished the fight @ lvl 79. My GS is 2609, all dungeon blues w/ crafted blue maces. No enchants or gems really.

Anyway, it's really just a matter of burning him down as quick as possible. To start the fight, I dropped my Earth Elemental totem along with my Windfury, Flametongue and Manaspring totems. Flameshock + Lava Burst go along way, as well as Stormstrike + Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning. I saved my Maelstrom charges for instant heals. Once my elemental went down I called in the Spirit Wolves, having them tank while of course pulling heals off their damage. Was able to release the captives and burn one down (I chose to off the Frenzyheart, as I wanted Oracles for my faction) before the wolves expired. After that it was just a matter of letting the Oracle build up some aggro while I healed and then burn out the rest of Artruis' hp. Definitely wasn't a walk in the park by any means, but definitely do-able.

As others have stated, if you at least get as far as killing one of the captives before you die (if you die) you can easily make it back in time to finish him off before he kills off the now friendly NPC. Also, if this occurs - and assuming you used your Earth Elemental at the start of the fight - you can likely throw down your Fire Elemental totem by now to help burn through his hp even quicker.

While trying to fight Artruis the Heartless, he almost killed me so I ran out of his range so he would "reset". When I did this, he disappeared and did not reappear. I tried running out of the cave and then back in, but no luck. I decided to drop the quest so that I could get it again and therefore "reset" the encounter. Bad Choice!

I could NOT find Moodle again to give me the quest! I tried going back to where I last saw him....then I tried going back to the high Oracle to ask for his stress ball to call him again...all without luck. I tried for approx 20 mins to figure this out. Finally, after all this time, I went back to High-Oracle Soo-Say and there was Moodle just off to the right of him 54.4, 56.3. So just hang in there and he should reappear eventually!

Just solo'd Artruis as a tank druid, lvl 79 with no special gear. Fighting itself is just normal spanking (bash doesn't interrupt spellcasting), and using CD's everytime they're available. Kinda long fight, took about 4-5 minutes. Used frenzied regeneration twice. I was left with 3k health in the end, so... pretty close one. Dodge rating helps avoiding the frostbolts, I think I managed to dodge about half of the bolts he casted. :)

I just soloed this with my own dk lvl 78 blood, simply get curses up and use deathstrike to regain hp, wait till after he has shoot of his forst bolt. Once the adds shows up, Wolvar or gurlock, the one you do not kill is the one you get quest from and gain reputation with, also the lich was immune to silence so no idea trying to interupt frostbolts.

Solo'd on a Lv76 Tankadin with 18k HP self buffed.
Went low HP quite a few times though, even with Seal of Light and Judgement of Light both active.

But yeah, if you know how to play Paladin right, easily soloable.
I'm guessing it's not soloable by a class that cant heal itself, like a Mage...

BoS yourself and keep Devotion Aura up, you want the added defense for this fight.
Start with JoL and JUST use that. Hopefully you specced into "Guarded by the Light", so if you did, slam down your Divine Plea now.
Start the fight with Seal of Wisdom up and switch to and from Seal of Light when things get bad.
I cast LoH when he was down to about 80k HP cus he landed a nasty crit and got me down to about 3k HP.

The Wolvar and Oracle deal next to no damage if your geared well, just keep SoW up and maybe even JoW if you feel daring.
I took down the Wolvar cus he's a bastard who tricked me into killing innocent Oracles :<

Then focus back on the Lich. I noticed he does more damage in this phase, and had to pop a DS pretty much strait away. If you do this, right click DP otherwise your healing sucks. Once the shield falls, DP again and continue with SoL and JoL till he dies.

Paladins. That was easy.

Solo'd as a level 77 enhance shaman in BoA / quest gear (was moderately difficult).

Begin by summoning your Frost Resistance, Earth Elemental, Grounding, and Searing Totems while running into him and then use Wind Shear. Unleash on him until you draw aggro or your eath elemental dies, then use Feral Spirit and use the taunt ability on your wolves. During this portion of the fight, use Grounding Totem whenever it is up.

This should get him to 30%, if you draw aggro or get low on mana, use Shamanistic Rage. Back up a bit and use your Fire Elemental and Stoneclaw Totems. Kill the one you don't want to be allied with and then immediately use Wind Shear on the lich. Make sure not to get aggro at this point because you'll be low on mana and health, just let the NPC tank him and you DPS.

I died at this point to frost nova and just self-rezzed and killed the lich.

I manged to solo this as a level 77 Retribution Paladin, for all the Ret Paladins out there I will tell you what my strategy was.

I had ret aura up, seal of corruption and blessing of kings. Once you start the fight just use Judgement of Light and Divine Storm as much as possible, these help restore health so you don't have to keep healing. Whenever Art of War happens, use flash of light every time, this helps restore extra health. I managed to get him to 30% without using lay on hands or bubble, and managed to kill the Oracle without using it.. you should definitely save it for the rest of the 30%.. but if you must, use it when fighting the frenzyheart or the oracle. The last 30% is fairly easy, just do what you kept doing the whole fight and you should complete the quest.

soloed this as a 80 destro lock just now. i made a hs and ss'ed up just in case. i used a Scroll of Stamina VII and a Roasted Worg to buff myself up. i got down to low mana at one point when in the process of killing Zepic, so i just tapped to get it back. i used the hs and 1 health pot. i didn't get to even below 50% hp and it took like maybe 3 mins to do this quest, including killing the trash on the way in.

use frost ward and ice barrier everytime you can and the frost ward/evocation glyphs are very helpfull here. when jaloot and zepic attack you, use polymorph on one and kill the other. After, you just need to finish the lich.

Pretty easy to solo as a lvl78 Retribution Paladin, done it with only greens & blues from quests & dungeons in Northrend and then the Heirloom Chest, Shoulders & Axe basically just run in like a crazy person nuke away and use Insta Flash Of Light when Art Of War proc's, once i got to around 50% HP i would start to cast Holy Light just to keep myself full.
Once the 2 dudes become active i choose the faction i wanted to go with and used Repentance on the other meaning i only had to fight one, worked a treat.. Once you've killed the other one Artruis the Heartless becomes active again and you just basically nuke away and keep yourself up, i used absolutly 0 cooldowns whatsoever during the fight, so feel free to pop Avenging Wrath at the start if you want :) Happy Nuking.

Solo'd as a level 78 prot paladin. Kept Seal of Light and Judgement of Light up at all times and it managed to out-heal the damage. Geared in NR quest gear + two heirlooms. Blessing of Sanctuary and Divine Plea handled my mana. It took ages to kill, but I managed.

Soloed very, very slowly as a 76 Holy Paladin in brilliant saronite gear. I had to switch to Seal of Wisdom in order to keep my mana up, so I was dealing about 300 dps, and in the end I didn't even get credit for the quest.

After the 30% shield thing he did, he healed up to almost full before I could kill his hostage shield.

Soloable as 79 affliction lock in all blues.

He's inside the cave, go follow the path, he's at the end of it.

Slap a void walker on the lich, dot him up, and drain away. Frost bolts hit like flies (not much) unless it crits, but even then you can manage to get the health back right away with life drain & haunt.

Once he unfreezes the two adds, bring the void walker back and tank both, kill the one you want. They hit like babies so your voidwalker will do just fine.

After that, it's back to dotting the lich & draining away.

Additional tip: use bubble shield & healthstone if needed.

Remember when attacking the adds: You are attacking the add itself, not the frozen shield that the lich is casting. The add you attack will be the one that dies, it doesn't free them. Just thought I'd post that for anyone who was a little confused.

Solo'd as a lvl 78 affliction warlock without too many problems. I was mostly in blues from dungeons and full heirloom gear.

He casts frostbolts quite often, but they seemed to hit for about 1,5K each, easily healed through with Corruption, Drain Life and Haunt up. Just timed my Life Taps when Haunt was about to end so I'd immediately get the health back. I had my fel puppy out so didn't have my pet tanking but it was no problem at all.

He appears to be immune to spell lock and Curse of Tongues didn't work either. Had no issues getting him to the point where he released the adds.

I kept the oracle chain-feared and dotted up the other add and nuked it down. Didn't hit very hard at all.

When he got out of the ice block I quickly wrapped up the fight with help of the oracle.

I am Oracle at the moment and have tried to change over to Frenzyheart. I cannot get this quest from Moodle. I have killed Atruis many times and killed Jaloop to try and change faction. Nothing works. I killed Pitch and all the elite mobs but no quest there either.

How do you change factions from Oracle to Frenzyheart?

Solo'd at 80 as holy priest - took just under 5 minutes to take out the lich. I was a bit disapointed to not recieve credit for killing it tho. The only thing I can think may have been the problem is that as I was low on mana towards the end I was wanding down the last bit of health, and may not have got in the killing blow, as you recieve a helper mid way through the fight and the oracle may have got the final blow on the mob. My second attempt I made sure to have dots in place and tossed out a high dammage attack to finish off the fight and got credit for the kill that time.

Just soloed this as a 78 prot warrior in quest/instance blues and greens with an heirloom mace. I have about 20k life self-buffed with Commanding Shout, with 16% dodge, 8% parry, and 20% block.

For the first part, just make sure to Spell Reflect as many Frost Bolts as you can and pop Shield Block to minimize his melee damage. Thunder Clap and Demoralizing Shout also help. With 3/3 Shield Specialization, you'll be generating so much rage from the Spell Reflects (60 rage each time) that you can constantly spam Heroic Strike, Devastate (to proc Sword and Board), Shield Slam, and Revenge.

This first phase will be kinda brutal on your life pool because there will be a Frost Bolt or two that you won't be able to reflect, and he hits fairly hard. Again, make sure you are Reflecting as much as possible (pop it as soon as you see him start to cast, so that it will be off CD in time for the next one), and using Shield Block every time it comes off cooldown. Towards about half of the boss' life, you'll be getting pretty low on life yourself, so use a health potion, Last Stand, and Enraged Regeneration.

Going into the add phase, I was at full life from popping all of that. I used Shockwave immediately after grouping the two adds together, then Intimidating Shout after they broke out from the stun, and the Concussion Blow, and then another Shockwave. After I ran out of ways to lock down the adds, I popped Shield Block. My 3/3 Blood Craze procced on the adds, and healed me to full by the time the phase ended because I was keeping them disabled and taking so little damage from them.

Going into the third phase with full health, I popped Shield Wall, and continued to Spell Reflect and pop Shield Block on cooldown, and kept slowly wearing him down with Devastate, Revenge, Shield Slam, and Heroic Strike. When he died, I had 1/2 life left.

Soloed as 77 Demonology Warlock (regular quest greens) quite easily.

Unleashed Felguard on Artruid. Bane of Doom, Corruption, Health Funnel. Rinse and Repeat.

When the Frenzyheart and Oracle got released, ordered my Felguard to attack the Frenzyheart and feared the Oracle a couple of times while I burned down the Frenzyheart.

When Artruis came back, I continued the cycle above, but now it was much easier because the Oracle was helping me.

Soloed as a 80 Prot Warrior. Half blues from quest rewards and Faction rewards, about 21k hp unbuffed.

Kept spell deflect up for his frostbolts, and just nuked him down (SS, Dev, etc)...I found it easier to attack the ranged NPC since I couldn't dispel the armor buff on the melee fighter. Hit shield block when you're fighting the two NPCs who become unfrozen.

After the NPC is down, finish off Artruis. Used all available cooldowns...shield wall, pot, enraged regen helped...popped last stand near the end....had about 3k hp left but finished the quest.

that was easy... im 77 shadowpriest with 161 item lvl... now i want to try to finish some meelee elites, bcause with casters looks like there will be no problems...

1. dotted him all the time (even no mind fly and mind blasted him only occasionaly...)
2. he hits me with frost bolt? my health down to 30%, i cast flash heal, health up to 100%
3. IF between time when next frostbolt hits me and i can finish casting flash heal i have a second or 2, i will mind fly or mind blast him, otherwise just renew dots...
4.rinse, repeat... :D

byw finished him untill he shielded with ~80% mana left

2 elites? psyhic scream, 1 runs away, dot other, pw shield when i can, otherwise just flash heal, flash heal... thankfully they didnt hit me nearly so hard! :D i killed one of them ,other just started hitting boss, but still i got all aggro, again no problem, repeat steps 1,2,3,4 ... :D

why i got no problems with mana? masochism talent... frost bolt hits me for 70% of my life once in a while , i spend lets say 12-13% mana on dots but i gain 10 back... used just shadowfiend for a bit of added dps, but he died in aabout 3sec! :D so would do without...

i was actually flying around looking for this quest, but there is no quest you can pick up to start it!
if you're switching over from frenzyheart, all you have to do is go into the cave where artruis the heartless is (entrance 70, 58) and kill him.
once you save the oracle, you can pick up the quest from him to switch to the oracles.
and vice versa oracles to frenzyheart

Soloed as lvl 77 Boomkin with ilvl 138 gear.

Started out with an eclipse from other guys and blew trinkets and treants to get him down low. Then i cast regrowth and lifebloom as needed to keep myself alive. Treants despawned around 33% to give you an idea of the damage- thats 30 seconds, so 2,000 dps or so.

When adds came i killed the gorloc, so it was a bit tougher than otherwise, because he can be rooted for CC. I just healed as needed and burned him down, used moonfire because mana started getting low.

Once I got help i did a shadowmeld-immediate cancel to drop threat, from here it was moonfire spam to win.

Hope this helps other upcoming Balance Druids.

So, I killed the mob, I actually killed him before he could shield and completed the quest at the little stone under the boss. I got the necklace but then realized I didnt kill either mob and no quest. So I waited for respawn and allowed the shield to go up and saved the Murloc dude from Oracles but when the fight was over he did not give me the next quest...help plz

Nothing here seems to mention at level 85 why it is the lich king despawns after you kill either faction... the fact is we melt face too well. Melt the Lich King down until his shield comes up, then let the two mobs beat on you until the Lich King finishes his dialog. Once he's done talking, kill whichever you want and the Lich King's shield will come down so you can kill him and complete the quest.

I've posted similar comments on thread regarding the oracles faction.seems to be a bug.I too realized that at 85 we tend tokill lowbies to early which results in ..undesirable outcomes.So I made sure to allot artrius an eternity to say all he needed to say, then push him over threshold and release the npcs from their ice shells, i waited another eternity then killed the frenzyheart, waited again for artrius to speak his mind and killed him. This has sadly the same result as any other previous attempt and nothing happens for me....except frustration

I did all the quests up to and including Making Peace. Then nothing. No more quests from anybody. Soo-say only asks if I have more shinys but won't give me the next quest. Tried killing Artruis but the Oracle left won;t talk to me so I tried switching sides but The Frenzy won't talk to me either. Help! Wouldn't give me the bug bag either. Is he bugged?

If you soloing this with Cataclysm geared and high-level character, note that Lich will despawn if he can't reacquire you after you kill one of adds and this is exactly what most often will happen because of your reduced "mob attention" radius. To prevent the long wait for respawn, move under lich's "feet" when he shields himself and nuke add from there.

Do Note - That this event seems to be bugged if you dps the elite down to fast.
I was doing this on my lvl 85 bm hunter and Arthius died before the 2 faction guys unfroze . so when he died they were still frozen but they both offered a daily quest...
I took the daily quest for the oracles wich did not lead to another quest but instead just showed that I had 24/25 daily quests left
no matter what I did ingame after that, I did not get any daily quests at the camp and the 2 guys at Arthius did not give me any other quests no matter how many times I killed Arthius.

Then I relogged and logged back on. then it showed that I had 25/25 daily quests left. I killed Arthius SLOWLY.. only with auto attacks.. then they 2 guys unfroze when Arthius was at 30%-ish.. I killed one. then killed Arthius and I got the daily quest again from the oracle guy. leading to another normal quest telling me to head to camp.

Small bug. hope it helps >.<

Like some others who have posted, my problem was that I killed Artruis "too fast" and it didn't allow the Frenzyheart or Oracle to break out of the ice in chains. So when Artruis died, both had the blue exclamation point over their heads. I chose the one I wanted, but it didn't offer any follow up quest and I was stuck. I even tried killing Artruis again, but to no avail.

Here is what I did to fix it:
1) I turned off the game.

2) I went into my WOW folder and deleted the WTF, Inteface, and Cache folders (just those three).

3) I logged back into the game, and killed Artruis again (this time slowly, allowing for the two factions to come out in chains. I then killed the one I didn't want to be associated with.

After doing this, the blue exclamation point came back up over the one I wanted, and the follow up quest was then available. So pretty much if you find yourself in my situation, just delete those three folders, restart the game, and kill Artruis all over again. Problem solved! And you can do this all on the same day.

A NOTE TO ALL LEVEL 85s!
If you are running yourself through this quest chain in hopes to snag a cool mount, you've probably made the same mistake I did. You one-shotted "Altruis" and therefore never got the chance to kill the appropriate NPC to choose your reputation. Never fear. I thought I'd screwed myself. I saw the blue exclamation points over the heads of both NPCs so I spoke to the Oracle. Unfortunately, when I went back to the camp, nobody would give me the dailies.

Here's what you have to do:

Wait for Altruis to respawn. This time, kill her again but use something that won't one-shot her. You need to kill slowly to trigger the NPCs to get loose at 30% and start attacking you. I am a rogue so I used my thrown weapon. After about 5 hits, the NPCs jumped on me. I killed the non-Oracle NPC, then finished off Altruis. Then, the blue exclamation point showed back up, but this time, when I accepted it, I also got the yellow exclamation point where I could claim my faction quest.

I hope this helps a few!

If you run into the same problem as me, which was,

i had started the process of doing the oracle dailies back in wrath but never got into it and did anything with it.

i went to the rainspeaker canopy and talked to high oracle soo say and got the stress ball, used it and the moodle guy gave me the quest to start it all up.

Don't use AOE or you'll kill the Oracle you need to get a quest from. And if you're 85 or higher, be sure to white hit so the Frenzyheart and Oracle try to attack you.

As others have mentioned here, if you are high level and kill Artruis before he unfreezes his captives, you will be bugged until you can complete the daily after the reset. Your rep will change, but the dailies will not unlock.

However, it has also been mentioned that trying again after he respawns, or logging out, or deleting your cache make the quest available again. This is not correct information, unfortunately. You must wait until the daily reset to have another chance at not killing Artruis in one shot.

FYI: If you're changing factions from one to the other, make sure that you don't 1shot Artruis the Heartless. He won't have a chance to become immune, thus neither mob you need to kill will unfreeze. I had to unequip my bow and punch him to 30% which at level 90 is like 4 punches.

Quest is super buggy. I was on my level 77 Ret Pally, and she hits pretty darn hard, so I don't know if she was dropping Artruis too fast or what, but he says to choose, aaaaand nothing happened. Both stayed frozen, everybody was immune, nothing could be done about anything.

I had to exit completely, and when I logged back on, Artruis and pals were gone. Wtf?

EDIT: Okay, I spoke too soon! Artruis and pals eventually respawned, and this time, I took it easy on the old chap. Hit him slow, let him get a few hits in, took him down gently. Did the trick! Quest completed.

If you are a level 90 and want to do this quest with changing the rep and getting the daily in either Oracles or Frenzyhearts; you need to do a real low dps to a boss with 22k health and get him below %30..

To do achieve this;

1. If you have a pet release it.
2. If you have any aura, buff, stance clear it on you.
3. Put your weapons to your bags.
4. Just do unarmed white dps and turn around.
5. If you are still hitting more than 22k white dps. Unequip all your items.
6. When the boss gets belows %30 it will shield himself and you will able to kill Oracle or frenzyheart mob.
7. After completing the quest, The daily quest which adjusts the rep according to the faction will spawn.

This quest still appears to be "bugged" (really just tricky) for high-level characters who can easily one-shot Artuis. If you do kill him before he has a chance to unfreeze the two captives, both of them will remain frozen, and each will have a daily quest you can immediately turn in. Do not turn in the daily quest or you will not be offered the required follow-up quest (Return of the Lich Hunter or Return of the Friendly Dryskin) and will not be able to begin dailies for the faction. Just wait in the cave for a few minutes and Altruis will respawn. If you do turn in their quest while they are still frozen you will need to wait until the following day when the daily quest has reset and you can try again.

If you're a geared level 90, I would suggest doing these things before engaging Artuis (at least for DPS, adjust as needed for others):

Un-equip your Gong-Lu, Strength of Xuen, or anything else which can proc with AoE damage.
Un-equip a helm gemmed with Capacitive Primal Diamond.
Un-equip any weapons.
Disable any abilities that apply a DoT effect upon striking (such as Paladin's Seal of Truth).

Now just run up and punch him in the face a few times (press T to attack, be ready to cancel with ESC). As a Ret Paladin I did about 7,000 damage per hit, so it only took about 3 punches for him to RP and release the prisoners. Once released, you pick the faction you want to become honored with by killing the opposite faction's member, then finish off the Lich.

If you want to become Honored with Frenzyheart Tribe (for their Ripe Disgusting Jar), kill Jaloot, then speak to Zepic. You will also immediately become Hated with The Oracles.

If you want to become Honored with The Oracles (for their Cracked (Mysterious) Egg), kill Zepic, then speak to Jaloot. You will also immediately become Hated with Frenzyheart Tribe.

Hope that helps someone avoid making the same mistake I did.

An important note. If you failed killing the Artruis the Heartless (one shotting him) and accepted the quest from, either the frenzyheart dude or the oracle guy, go back there when dailys reset and do it properly. Take off all your gear, down him at 30% +/- health, and then kill the faction mob that you dont want to be friendly with, wait a few seconds till the npc you saved attack the Artruis and then finish him off.

As for the current patch, this looks fixed for high-level characters. If you try to kill Artuis he gets down to 1 HP and then the event starts and unfolds normally.

Kill the opposite one of the faction you wish to grind. So kill the Wolvar if you want to be friends with the Oracles and vice-versa. If you don't kill one after about 30 seconds the Lich will despawn. He will return in a minute or two and allow you to do it but ONLY if you didn't kill one of the two faction choices.

If you kill Jaloot AND Zepik you can't get access to the final quest! So, try to not aoe the boss, get the boss low life and kill one of the guy.
(no worries, you can't oneshot the boss)

If you want to progress with The Oracles, kill Zepik.

If you want to progress with the Frenzyheart Tribe, kill Jaloot.

(If you have killed both or if you have killed the wrong guy, you can wait for the mob to respawn and do your quest properly.)

If you kill both Jaloot and Zepik, just wait a couple of minutes and Artruis will respawn. Then kill Artruis again and kill either Jaloot or Zepik to unlock your dailies.

For whoever is doing this in Shadowlands at max lvl, I accidentally killed Jaloot with aoe and only Zepik survived and I panicked. If you wait a bit and not accept the quest from Zepik, he disappears and all 3 of them respawn back.

Description

Perhaps the crystals will ward off the undead gradually, but there is one more thing that must be done.

We need to find the leader of these undead and kill him to ensure there's no one to push the wretches back upon us. If my suspicions are correct, he will be somewhere inside the fallen pillar... the Sundered Shard.

The corpses being dragged there would suggest as much anyway.
