Description:
This web collection preserves captures from Brazilian web engines. The snapshots were archived by the Internet Archive, and curated to be part of this collection by the Federal State University of Rio de Janeiro. The web collection was built as part of a research project, which investigates born-digital heritage. Since the collection focuses on the History and Culture categories of the search engines, its crawlers were programmed to capture all the available in-links of those categories. In addition, the web collection is also an attempt to ensure that these fragments became easily accessible. For further information about the collection, also available in Portuguese, please follow the link of the Federal State University of Rio de Janeiro's web site listed above

Description:
Located at a major intersection of land and sea cargo traffic, the border towns of Port Huron, Michigan, and Sarnia, Ontario, are connected by the world's only internationally-owned bridge. In summer 2009, a private US company began to fly overhead a 50-foot helium balloon with a surveillance camera capable of reading a ship's name from 14 km (more than 8 miles) away. The sudden presence of a far-seeing camera in the sky sparked strong reaction on both sides of the border -- from formal protest by the Canadian government and US and Canadian elected officials to grassroots actions. Organized through word of mouth and online social networking tools, the Moon the Balloon
protest, from which this web archive draws its name, delved into a rich symbology for expressing the sense of surveillance having gone too far, and a primal protest rooted in the local area's tradition of independence and personal liberty.

Description:
Spongebob Squarepants is an animated television show that aired on July 17, 1999 and is still running to this day. The series chronicles the adventures and endeavors of the title character and his various friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. The show is in its tenth season, being produced by Pall Tibbitt, who took over after Stephen Hillenburg in 2004 to continue the show after the first movie. Spongebob Squarepants has remained a popular cartoon since, due to its colorful characters and family oriented humor, and has made millions in merchandise and watch time. The show is also known for its many references to pop culture and subtle humor littered throughout episodes, taking advantage of references to familiar ideas such as Star Wars
and David Hasselhoff. The show even has hidden educational messages, such as references to the Wright Brothers (who built the first flying plane) in The Sponge Who Could Fly
. Few other shows of its time were able to capture so many messages as well as provide a diverse storyline in the same way that Spongebob Squarepants did. The show is a great example of what popular television and humor for kids was like during the 2000s. Spongebob Squarepants is a dynamic show that appeals to multiple audiences and will probably continue to do so for many years.

Description:
This collection is comprised of a modest sampling of sites that feature images, articles, and commentary reflecting diverse perspectives on photographing Detroit’s urban and industrial ruins. Photographs of abandoned and decaying spaces in Detroit, also known as “ruin porn,” have become the poster child for industrial decline in the United States. The term ruin porn is attributed to James Griffioen, Detroit resident and photographer, who used the term during a 2009 interview with Vice magazine to describe journalists flocking to Detroit following the 2008 financial crisis. Griffioen argued that these journalists neglected the complexity of the city’s economic problems and overlooked examples of health and growth by presenting the images out of context and through a prism of stylized photography to manipulate the narrative that the media presents about the city. As the economic health of Detroit begins to rebound, these discussions will be a part of its history; the possible transformation of these buildings and spaces from ruin to reclamation will make documenting its progression even more important.

The Abraham Lincoln Statue Controversies collection contains captured webpages that lend insight to the ongoing tensions over statues in light of the fight for racial justice and the reconsideration of who and what is memorialized. This collection focuses on statues and memorials of Abraham Lincoln located in public spaces and institutions throughout the United States, including parks, intersections, and colleges and universities. Web content contains material both in support of and against the removal of Lincoln statues, memorials, and monuments, including news articles, social media posts, legislative documents, letters of support, and petitions. Also includes web content on Lincoln statue vandalism and activism. Several captures surround the Emancipation Memorial statue found in Boston, Massachusetts (removed December 2020), and Washington, D.C. Webpages were curated by the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections in accordance with their mission of documenting Abraham Lincoln's life and legacy.

This collection of websites was initiated in September 2021 in response to the regime change in Afghanistan and the international response to these developments. As US and Allied troops retreated from Afghanistan in May 2021 the Taliban quickly gained ground, seizing cities across the country, increasing threats of a worsening civil war. The Taliban claimed control of all major cities in Afghanistan, including the capital Kabul, where fighters seized the presidential palace, forcing the president to flee. The Afghan government which was supported by the US and the Allies collapsed and there was a transition of power to the Taliban. This collection has been scoped to fit the remit of the IIPC Content Development Group and the seeds and metadata were contributed by members of this group as well as a small number of nominations from members of the public. Crawling finished in January 2022.
