Title:Analogy between Jahn-Teller distortion and Rashba spin splitting, and Jahn-Teller counterpart of spin texture
View PDFAbstract:The adiabatic potential energy surfaces for Jahn-Teller distortions in real space are uncannily similar in nature to the energy dispersion relationships of electrons experiencing Rashba or Rashba-Dresselhaus interactions in reciprocal space. Here we establish a formal analogy between the Jahn-Teller distortion in molecular physics and the spin splitting in condensed matter physics and search for the counterparts between them. We propose the orbital texture for the Jahn-Teller physics as the counterpart for the spin texture in the Rashba spin physics, and put forward a possible way of experimentally detecting it.
