A 4-fold-symmetry hexagonal ruthenium for magnetic heterostructures exhibiting enhanced perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and tunnel magnetoresistance
Abstract: An unusual crystallographic orientation of hexagonal Ru with a 4-fold symmetry emerging in epitaxial MgO/Ru/Co2FeAl/MgO heterostructures is reported, in which an approximately Ru(02-23) growth attributes to the lattice matching among MgO, Ru, and Co2FeAl. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of the Co2FeAl/MgO interface is substantially enhanced as compared with those with a Cr(001) layer. The MTJs i… ▽ More

Mossbauer studies on FeSe and FeTe
Abstract: We carried out 57Fe Mossbauer measurements for FeSe and Fe1.08Te to investigate the magnetic properties. There was no sign of magnetic ordering above 4.2 K for superconducting FeSe. The magnetic sextet corresponding to antiferromagnetic ordering of Fe in low-spin state was observed for non-superconducting Fe1.08Te.

Current-perpendicular-to-plane giant magnetoresistance of a spin valve using Co2MnSi Heusler alloy electrodes
Abstract: We report the current-perpendicular-to-plane giant magnetoresistance of a spin valve with Co2MnSi (CMS) Heusler alloy ferromagnetic electrodes. A multilayer stack of Cr/Ag/Cr/CMS/Cu/CMS/Fe25Co75/Ir28Mn72/Ru was deposited on a MgO (001) single crystal substrate. The bottom CMS layer was epitaxially grown on the Cr/Ag/Cr buffer layers and was ordered to the L21 structure after annealing at 673 K.… ▽ More

Interlayer exchange coupling in Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5/Cr/Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5 trilayers
Abstract: Interlayer exchange couplings were examined for Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5(CFAS)/Cr/CFAS trilayered films grown on MgO (001) single crystal and thermally oxidized Si substrates. The films were (001) epitaxial on MgO and (110) textured polycrystalline on SiO2. Strong exchange couplings were observed for the films with the 1.5 nm thick Cr spacer layer. A 90 degree coupling is dominant in the (001) epitaxial… ▽ More

Magnetic properties and thermal expansion of YbGa$_x$Ge$_{2-x}$ (0.9 <= x <= 1.5)
Abstract: The composition dependence of the Yb valence and of the thermal expansion have been studied in the YbGa$_x$Ge$_{2-x}$ system. X-ray diffraction reveals that single-phased samples isostructural to YbGaGe are obtained in the range of 0.9 <= x <= 1.5. The magnetic susceptibility shows that the systems are almost nonmagnetic below room temperature, indicating a stable Yb2+ state for the x range 0.9… ▽ More

Large negative magnetoresistance in thiospinel CuCrZrS4
Abstract: We report on large negative magnetoresistance observed in ferromagnetic thiospinel compound CuCrZrS$_{4}$. Electrical resistivity increased with decreasing temperature according to the form proportional to $\textrm{exp}(T_{0}/T)^{1/2} $, derived from variable range hopping with strong electron-electron interaction. Resistivity under magnetic fields was expressed by the same form with the charact… ▽ More

X-ray-induced electrical conduction in the insulating phase of thiospinel CuIr2S4
Abstract: Effects of x-ray irradiation on the crystal structure and the electrical resistance were examined at low temperatures for the insulating phase of spinel compound CuIr2S4. We found that the resistance decreases by more than five decades by irradiation at 8.5 K. The structural change from triclinic to tetragonal was observed at the same time. The x-ray-induced conductance is deduced to result from… ▽ More

Ionic Ordering in Thiospinel CuIr$_{2}$S$_{4}$
Abstract: Crystal structure of spinel compound CuIr$_{2}$S$_{4}$ was examined by powder X-ray diffraction for the insulating phase below the metal-insulator transition at $T_{MI}$ = 230 K. The superstructure spots are reproduced by considering the displacement of Ir atoms. A model for the ionic ordering of Ir$^{4+}$ and Ir$^{3+}$ with the same number is proposed for the insulating phase on the basis of th… ▽ More
