As well-known, the $C^\infty$ stability of proper $C^\infty$ maps is characterized by the infinitesimal $C^\infty$ stability. In the present paper we study the counterpart in real analytic context. In particular, we show that the infinitesimal $C^ω$ stability does not imply $C^ω$ stability; for instance, a Whitney umbrella $\mathbb{R}^2 \to \mathbb{R}^3$ is not $C^ω$ stable. Energy harvesting is essential for the internet-of-things networks where a tremendous number of sensors require power. Thermoelectric generators (TEGs), especially those based on silicon (Si), are a promising source of clean and sustainable energy for these sensors. However, the reported performance of planar-type Si TEGs never exceeded power factors of 0.1 $μ Wcm^{-2} K^{-2}$ due to the poor thermoelectric performance of Si and the suboptimal design of the devices. Here, we report a planar-type Si TEG with a power factor of 1.3 $μ Wcm^{-2} K^{-2}$ around room temperature. The increase in thermoelectric performance of Si by nanostructuring based on the phonon-glass electron-crystal concept and optimized three-dimensional heat-guiding structures resulted in a significant power factor. In-field testing demonstrated that our Si TEG functions as a 100-$μW$-class harvester. This result is an essential step toward energy harvesting with a low-environmental load and cost-effective material with high throughput, a necessary condition for energy-autonomous sensor nodes for the trillion sensors universe.

Abstract:
We correct a statement of a theorem on characterisation of the (c)-regularity we gave in Topology 37 (1998), 45--62. This theorem was used in the paper in the proof of two theorems on the (c)-regular stratification. In this note we give a weaker version of the theorem as an alternative lemma which ensures the (c)-regularity condition and turn to be sufficient for the proof of the theorems.

Major construction and initial-phase operation of a second-generation gravitational-wave detector KAGRA has been completed. The entire 3-km detector is installed underground in a mine in order to be isolated from background seismic vibrations on the surface. This allows us to achieve a good sensitivity at low frequencies and high stability of the detector. Bare-bones equipment for the interferometer operation has been installed and the first test run was accomplished in March and April of 2016 with a rather simple configuration. The initial configuration of KAGRA is named {\it iKAGRA}. In this paper, we summarize the construction of KAGRA, including the study of the advantages and challenges of building an underground detector and the operation of the iKAGRA interferometer together with the geophysics interferometer that has been constructed in the same tunnel.

Applying the results obtained in the relative case, we construct examples of polynomial functions whose relative r-jets are V-sufficient in C^r functions and C^{r+1} functions but not C^0-sufficient in C^r functions and C^{r+1} functions, respectively. In addition, we give characterisations of relative finite V-determinacy and also relative finite C^r contact determinacy.

In this paper we obtain regularity results for elliptic integro-differential equations driven by the stronger effect of coercive gradient terms. This feature allows us to construct suitable strict supersolutions from which we conclude Hölder estimates for bounded subsolutions. In many interesting situations, this gives way to a priori estimates for subsolutions. We apply this regularity results to obtain the ergodic asymptotic behavior of the associated evolution problem in the case of superlinear equations. One of the surprising features in our proof is that it avoids the key ingredient which are usually necessary to use the Strong Maximum Principle: linearization based on the Lipschitz regularity of the solution of the ergodic problem. The proof entirely relies on the Hölder regularity.

Because of the large payload masses (several hundred kg in total) and their thermal isolation, a cooling time of several months is required. Our calculation shows that a high-emissivity coating (e.g. a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating) can reduce the cooling time effectively by enhancing radiation heat transfer. Here, we have experimentally verified the effect of the DLC coating on the reduction of the cooling time.

The most stable states are estimated within the unrestricted Hartree-Fock approximation, in which the colinear spin configurations with five different spin-quantization axes are adopted as candidates. The obtained spin structures for some particular lattice distortions are consistent with the neutron diffraction results for Ca$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$. Also, some magnetic phase transitions can occur due to changes in lattice distortion. These results facilitate the comprehensive understanding of the phase diagram of Sr$_{3-x}$Ca$_x$Ru$_2$O$_7$.

The experiment uses an intense proton beam generated by the J-PARC accelerator in Tokai, Japan, and is composed of a neutrino beamline, a near detector complex (ND280), and a far detector (Super-Kamiokande) located 295 km away from J-PARC. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the instrumentation aspect of the T2K experiment and a summary of the vital information for each subsystem.

In this paper we give a generalisation of the above result to sets definable in an o-minimal structure on an arbitrary real closed field. More precisely, we first prove our main theorem and discuss in detail directional properties in the case of an Archimedean real closed field, and then we give a proof in the case of a general real closed field. In addition, related to our main result, we show the existence of special polyhedra in some Euclidean space, illustrating that the bi-Lipschitz equivalence does not always imply the existence of a definable one.

The proof is achieved, being based on a combinatorial characterisation of blow-analytic equivalence in terms of the real tree model.
We also give several examples of bi-Lipschitz equivalent germs that are not blow-analytically equivalent.

In this paper we introduce the notion of Blow-semialgebraic triviality consistent with a compatible filtration for an algebraic family of algebraic sets, as an equisingularity for real algebraic singularities. Given an algebraic family of 3-dimensional algebraic sets defined over a nonsingular algebraic variety, we show that there is a finite subdivision of the parameter algebraic set into connected Nash manifolds over which the family admits a Blow-semialgebraic trivialisation consistent with a compatible filtration. We show a similar result on finiteness also for a Nash family of 3-dimensional Nash sets through the Artin-Mazur theorem. As a corollary of the arguments in their proofs, we have a finiteness theorem on semialgebraic types of polynomial mappings from the 2-dimensional Euclidean space to the p-diemnsional Euclidean space.

Blow-analytic equivalence is a notion for real analytic function germs, introduced by Tzee-Char Kuo in order to develop real analytic equisingularity theory. In this paper we give complete characterisations of blow-analytic equivalence in the two dimensional case: in terms of the real tree model for the arrangement of real parts of Newton-Puiseux roots and their Puiseux pairs, and in terms of minimal resolutions. These characterisations show that in the two dimensional case the blow-analytic equivalence is a natural analogue of topological equivalence of complex analytic function germs. Moreover, we show that in the two-dimensional case the blow-analytic equivalence can be made cascade, and hence satisfies several geometric properties. It preserves, for instance, the contact orders of real analytic arcs.
In the general $n$-dimensional case, we show that a singular real modification satisfies the arc-lifting property.

We prove that the kissing dimension is preserved if the images of the subanalytic sets under consideration are also subanalytic. In particular, if two subanalytic set-germs are bi-Lipschitz equivalent, then their direction sets must have the same dimension.

Quantum teleportation of a squeezed state is demonstrated experimentally. Due to some inevitable losses in experiments, a squeezed vacuum necessarily becomes a mixed state which is no longer a minimum uncertainty state. We establish an operational method of evaluation for quantum teleportation of such a state using fidelity, and discuss the classical limit for the state. The measured fidelity for the input state is 0.85$\pm$ 0.05 which is higher than the classical case of 0.73$\pm$0.04. We also verify that the teleportation process operates properly for the nonclassical state input and its squeezed variance is certainly transferred through the process. We observe the smaller variance of the teleported squeezed state than that for the vacuum state input.

A stable inhomogeneous striped state is determined in the low-temperature tetragonal (LTT) phase with lattice distortions using a quantum variational Monte Carlo method. The ground state has vertical or horizontal hole-rich arrays coexisting with incommensurate magnetism and superconductivity induced by several percent lattice distortions. The superconductivity order parameter oscillates according to the inhomogeneity in the antiferromagnetic background with its maxima in the hole-rich regions, and the superconductivity condensation energy is reduced as the doping rate decreases.

The ground state of the two-dimensional three-band Hubbard model in oxide superconductors is investigated by using the variational Monte Carlo method. The Gutzwiller-projected BCS and spin- density wave (SDW) functions are employed in the search for a possible ground state with respect to dependences on electron density. Antiferromagnetic correlations are considerably enhanced near half-filling. It is shown that the d-wave state may exist away from half-filling for both the hole and electron doping cases. The overall structure of the phase diagram obtained by the calculations qualitatively agrees with experimental indications. The superconducting condensation energy is in reasonable agreement with the experimental value obtained from specific heat and critical magnetic field measurements for optimally doped samples. The inhomogeneous SDW state is also examined near 1/8-hole doping.

The non-uniform ground state of the two-dimensional three-band Hubbard model for the oxide high-Tc superconductors is investigated using a variational Monte Carlo method. We examine the effect produced by holes doped into the antiferromagnetic (AF) background in the underdoped region. It is shown that the AF state with spin modulations and stripes is stabilized du to holes travelling in the CuO plane. The structures of the modulated AF spins are dependent upon the parameters used in the model. The effect of the boundary conditions is reduced for larger systems. We show that there is a region where incommensurability is proportional to the hole density. Our results give a consistent description of stripes observed by the neutron- scattering experiments based on the three-band model for CuO plane.

Various advanced techniques for fabricating RDDS1 disks comparing to those for DDS were established to satisfy the dimension accuracy of +-1 micron over the entire surface made by ultra-precision turning. These disks were assembled with almost the same stacking and bonding jigs and processes as those of DDS3 assembly. In consequence, the assembly showed little disk-to-disk misalignment within 1 micron before and after the process. The possibility of superconductivity (SC) in the 2D Hubbard model (2DH) was investigated by means of the variational Monte Carlo method. The energy gain of the d-wave SC state, obtained as the difference of the minimum energy with a finite gap and that with zero gap, was examined with respect to dependences on U, electron density rho and next nearest neighbor transfer t' mainly on the 10 x 10 lattice. It was found to be maximized around U = 8 (in energy unit of t). It sharply increased for negative values of t' and had a broad peak for t' ~ -0.10. For these values of t' the energy gain was a smooth increasing function of rho almost independent of the shell structure in the region starting from ~ 0.76 up to 0.92. This clearly indicates that the result is already close to the value in the bulk limit. For t' = 0, the energy gain depended on the electronic shell state. Competition between the SC and the SDW states was also investigated. When t' = 0, the ground state is SDW in the range of rho \geq ~ 0.84$. The SC region slightly extends up to ~ 0.87 for t' ~ -0.10. Consequently the present results strongly indicate that the 2DH with t' ~ -0.1 drives SC by itself in the rho region from ~ 0.76 to ~ 0.87. The energy gain in the SC state with suitable parameters is found to be in reasonable agreement with the condensation energy in the SC state of YBa2Cu3O7. The corresponding t-J model proves to give an order-of-magnitude larger energy gain, which questions its validity.
