Based on $6.1~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.600~GeV to 4.843~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis of $Λ_c^+\toΛπ^+η$ is performed, and branching fractions and decay asymmetry parameters of intermediate processes are determined. The process $Λ_c^+\toΛa_0(980)^+$ is observed for the first time, and evidence for the pentaquark candidate $Σ(1380)^+$ decaying into $Λπ^+$ is found with statistical significance larger than $3σ$. The branching fraction product $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to Λa_0(980)^+) \; \mathcal{B}( a_0(980)^+ \to π^{+}η)$ is determined to be $(1.05 \pm 0.16_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.05_{\mathrm{syst}} \pm 0.07_{\mathrm{ext}})\%$, which is larger than theoretical calculations by $1 - 2$ orders of magnitude. Here the third (external) systematic is from $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to Λπ^+ η)$. Finally, we precisely obtain the absolute branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to Λπ^+ η) = (1.94 \pm 0.07_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.11_{\mathrm{syst}})\%$.

The product of the decay constant and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ is determined to be $f_{D_s^+}|V_{cs}|=(\mufdsxvcsresult)_{μν}~\mathrm{MeV}$ and $f_{D_s^+}|V_{cs}|=(\taufdsxvcsresult))_{τν}~\mathrm{MeV}$, respectively. Taking the value of $|V_{cs}|$ from a global fit in the Standard Model, we obtain ${f_{D^+_s}}=(\mufdsresult)_{μν}$\,MeV and ${f_{D^+_s}}=(\taufdsresult)_{τν}$\,MeV, respectively. Conversely, taking the value for $f_{D_s^+}$ from the latest lattice quantum chromodynamics calculation, we obtain $|V_{cs}| =(\muvcsresult)_{μν}$ and $|V_{cs}| = (\tauvcsresult)_{τν}$, respectively.

In the domain of Large Language Model (LLM), LLMs demonstrate significant capabilities in natural language understanding and generation. With the growing needs of applying LLMs on various domains, it is a research question that how to efficiently train and build a model that has expertise in different domains but with a low training cost. We propose CCoE architecture, a framework of easily coupling multiple strong domain experts together to fuse into a big LLM, provides a collective way of utilizing the different domain expert LLMs. Besides, training a large collaborative of multiple expert LLMs requires a high requirements on training sources. CCoE bypasses this problem through isolating other experts and train each expert separately. The design of CCoE assembles multiple expert LLMs through the CoE (Collaboration of Experts) layer. Each CoE layer could have one or more expert LLMs. Expert LLMs have different number of layers and have been well-trained for different domain tasks. Each expert is fine-tuned to be able to achieve the comparable results with SOTA domain LLMs. We start from 5 experts in the domain of Code, Math, Law, text-to-SQL and Medical. The results indicate that our CCoE framework can easily and efficiently boost nearly 10%-20% performance on original base model in different domains but using less resources on training, as well as inference.

Retrieval augmented generation (RAG) combines the generative abilities of large language models (LLMs) with external knowledge sources to provide more accurate and up-to-date responses. Recent RAG advancements focus on improving retrieval outcomes through iterative LLM refinement or self-critique capabilities acquired through additional instruction tuning of LLMs. In this work, we introduce Speculative RAG - a framework that leverages a larger generalist LM to efficiently verify multiple RAG drafts produced in parallel by a smaller, distilled specialist LM. Each draft is generated from a distinct subset of retrieved documents, offering diverse perspectives on the evidence while reducing input token counts per draft. This approach enhances comprehension of each subset and mitigates potential position bias over long context. Our method accelerates RAG by delegating drafting to the smaller specialist LM, with the larger generalist LM performing a single verification pass over the drafts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Speculative RAG achieves state-of-the-art performance with reduced latency on TriviaQA, MuSiQue, PubHealth, and ARC-Challenge benchmarks. It notably enhances accuracy by up to 12.97% while reducing latency by 51% compared to conventional RAG systems on PubHealth.

Automated 3D city generation, focusing on road networks and building layouts, is in high demand for applications in urban design, multimedia games and autonomous driving simulations. The surge of generative AI facilitates designing city layouts based on deep learning models. However, the lack of high-quality datasets and benchmarks hinders the progress of these data-driven methods in generating road networks and building layouts. Furthermore, few studies consider urban characteristics, which generally take graphics as analysis objects and are crucial for practical applications, to control the generative process. To alleviate these problems, we introduce a multimodal dataset with accompanying evaluation metrics for controllable generation of Road networks and Building layouts (RoBus), which is the first and largest open-source dataset in city generation so far. RoBus dataset is formatted as images, graphics and texts, with $72,400$ paired samples that cover around $80,000km^2$ globally. We analyze the RoBus dataset statistically and validate the effectiveness against existing road networks and building layouts generation methods. Additionally, we design new baselines that incorporate urban characteristics, such as road orientation and building density, in the process of generating road networks and building layouts using the RoBus dataset, enhancing the practicality of automated urban design. The RoBus dataset and related codes are published at https://github.com/tourlics/RoBus_Dataset.

We coalesce the $\rm X(2370)$ glueball state with two gluons in the simulated partonic final state by the Dynamically Constrained Phase-space Coalescence ({\footnotesize DCPC}) model. Alternative configuration of $\rm X(2370)$ molecular state is recombined in the simulated hadronic final state with $π^{+},π^{-},K^{+}, K^{-},K_{S}^{0},K_{S}^{0}$ and $η'$ by {\footnotesize DCPC} model. The resulted particle transverse momentum spectrum and rapidity distribution, etc. show a significant discrepancy between the two states. They are not only serving as criteria to distinguish the $\rm X(2370)$ glueball state or molecular state, but also confirming the BESIII observation of glueball-like particle $\rm X(2370)$ productions in $e^+e^-$ collisions.

The absolute branching fractions of $D_{s1}(2536)^- \rightarrow \bar{D}^{*0}K^-$ and $D_{s2}^*(2573)^- \rightarrow \bar{D}^0K^-$ are measured for the first time to be $(35.9\pm 4.8\pm 3.5)\%$ and $(37.4\pm 3.1\pm 4.6)\%$, respectively. The measurements are in tension with predictions based on the assumption that the $D_{s1}(2536)$ and $D_{s2}^*(2573)$ are dominated by a bare $c\bar{s}$ component. The $e^+e^-\rightarrow D_s^+D_{s1}(2536)^-$ and $e^+e^-\rightarrow D_s^+D^*_{s2}(2573)^-$ cross sections are measured, and a resonant structure at around 4.6~GeV with a width of 50~MeV is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of $15σ$ in the $e^+e^-\rightarrow D_s^+D^*_{s2}(2573)^-$ process. It could be the $Y(4626)$ found by the Belle collaboration in the $D_s^+D_{s1}(2536)^{-}$ final state, since they have similar masses and widths. There is also evidence for a structure at around 4.75~GeV in both processes.

The worldline method is a powerful numerical path-integral framework for computing Casimir and Casimir-Polder energies. An important challenge arises when one desires derivatives of path-integral quantities--standard finite-difference techniques, for example, yield results of poor accuracy. In this work we present methods for computing derivatives of worldline-type path integrals of scalar fields to calculate forces, energy curvatures, and torques. In Casimir-Polder-type path integrals, which require derivatives with respect to the source point of the paths, the derivatives can be computed by a simple reweighting of the path integral. However, a partial-averaging technique is necessary to render the differentiated path integral computationally efficient. We also discuss the computation of Casimir forces, curvatures, and torques between macroscopic bodies. Here a different method is used, involving summing over the derivatives of all the intersections with a body; again, a different partial-averaging method makes the path integral efficient. To demonstrate the efficiency of the techniques, we give the results of numerical implementations of these worldline methods in atomplane and plane-plane geometries. Being quite general, the methods here should apply to path integrals outside the worldline context (e.g., financial mathematics).

The increasing development of large language models (LLMs) in code generation has drawn significant attention among researchers. To enhance LLM-based code generation ability, current efforts are predominantly directed towards collecting high-quality datasets and leveraging diverse training technologies. However, there is a notable lack of comprehensive studies examining the limitations and boundaries of these existing methods. To bridge this gap, we conducted an extensive empirical study evaluating the performance of three leading closed-source LLMs and four popular open-source LLMs on three commonly used benchmarks. Our investigation, which evaluated the length, cyclomatic complexity and API number of the generated code, revealed that these LLMs face challenges in generating successful code for more complex problems, and tend to produce code that is shorter yet more complicated as compared to canonical solutions. Additionally, we developed a taxonomy of bugs for incorrect codes that includes three categories and 12 sub-categories, and analyze the root cause for common bug types. Furthermore, to better understand the performance of LLMs in real-world projects, we manually created a real-world benchmark comprising 140 code generation tasks. Our analysis highlights distinct differences in bug distributions between actual scenarios and existing benchmarks. Finally, we propose a novel training-free iterative method that introduces self-critique, enabling LLMs to critique and correct their generated code based on bug types and compiler feedback. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach can significantly mitigate bugs and increase the passing rate by 29.2% after two iterations, indicating substantial potential for LLMs to handle more complex problems.

Solving combinatorial optimization problems using variational quantum algorithms (VQAs) represents one of the most promising applications in the NISQ era. However, the limited trainability of VQAs could hinder their scalability to large problem sizes. In this paper, we improve the trainability of variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) by utilizing convex interpolation to solve portfolio optimization. The idea is inspired by the observation that the Dicke state possesses an inherent clustering property. Consequently, the energy of a state with a larger Hamming distance from the ground state intuitively results in a greater energy gap away from the ground state energy in the overall distribution trend. Based on convex interpolation, the location of the ground state can be evaluated by learning the property of a small subset of basis states in the Hilbert space. This enlightens naturally the proposals of the strategies of close-to-solution initialization, regular cost function landscape, and recursive ansatz equilibrium partition. The successfully implementation of a $40$-qubit experiment using only $10$ superconducting qubits demonstrates the effectiveness of our proposals. Furthermore, the quantum inspiration has also spurred the development of a prototype greedy algorithm. Extensive numerical simulations indicate that the hybridization of VQE and greedy algorithms achieves a mutual complementarity, combining the advantages of both global and local optimization methods. Our proposals can be extended to improve the trainability for solving other large-scale combinatorial optimization problems that are widely used in real applications, paving the way to unleash quantum advantages of NISQ computers in the near future.

Background: The high dimensionality of radiomic feature sets, the variability in radiomic feature types and potentially high computational requirements all underscore the need for an effective method to identify the smallest set of predictive features for a given clinical problem. Purpose: Develop a methodology and tools to identify and explain the smallest set of predictive radiomic features. Materials and Methods: 89,714 radiomic features were extracted from five cancer datasets: low-grade glioma, meningioma, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and two renal cell carcinoma cohorts (n=2104). Features were categorized by computational complexity into morphological, intensity, texture, linear filters, and nonlinear filters. Models were trained and evaluated on each complexity level using the area under the curve (AUC). The most informative features were identified, and their importance was explained. The optimal complexity level and associated most informative features were identified using systematic statistical significance analyses and a false discovery avoidance procedure, respectively. Their predictive importance was explained using a novel tree-based method. Results: MEDimage, a new open-source tool, was developed to facilitate radiomic studies. Morphological features were optimal for MRI-based meningioma (AUC: 0.65) and low-grade glioma (AUC: 0.68). Intensity features were optimal for CECT-based renal cell carcinoma (AUC: 0.82) and CT-based NSCLC (AUC: 0.76). Texture features were optimal for MRI-based renal cell carcinoma (AUC: 0.72). Tuning the Hounsfield unit range improved results for CECT-based renal cell carcinoma (AUC: 0.86). Conclusion: Our proposed methodology and software can estimate the optimal radiomics complexity level for specific medical outcomes, potentially simplifying the use of radiomics in predictive modeling across various contexts.

We investigate the cosmological first-order chiral phase transition of QCD, and for the first time calculate its parameters which can fully determine the gravitational wave spectrum. With the state-of-the-art calculation from the functional QCD method, we found that the large chemical potential of QCD phase transition results in very weak and fast first-order phase transitions at the temperature lower than $\mathcal{O}(10^2)$ MeV. These results further suggest that the GW signals of NANOGrav are very unlikely sourced from the chiral phase transition of QCD.

Both results are compatible within their uncorrelated systematic uncertainties. The combined result is $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η)=(1.495 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.023)\times\,10^{-3}$ where the first uncertainty is the combined statistical uncertainty and the second one the combined systematic uncertainty of both analyses, incorporating correlations between them. In addition, the $p \bar{p}$ threshold region is investigated for a potential threshold enhancement, and no evidence for one is observed.

This paper introduces the task of product demand clarification within an e-commercial scenario, where the user commences the conversation with ambiguous queries and the task-oriented agent is designed to achieve more accurate and tailored product searching by asking clarification questions. To address this task, we propose ProductAgent, a conversational information seeking agent equipped with abilities of strategic clarification question generation and dynamic product retrieval. Specifically, we develop the agent with strategies for product feature summarization, query generation, and product retrieval. Furthermore, we propose the benchmark called PROCLARE to evaluate the agent's performance both automatically and qualitatively with the aid of a LLM-driven user simulator. Experiments show that ProductAgent interacts positively with the user and enhances retrieval performance with increasing dialogue turns, where user demands become gradually more explicit and detailed. All the source codes will be released after the review anonymity period.

The paper focuses on improving the interpretability of Grammatical Error Correction (GEC) metrics, which receives little attention in previous studies. To bridge the gap, we propose CLEME2.0, a reference-based evaluation strategy that can describe four elementary dimensions of GEC systems, namely hit-correction, error-correction, under-correction, and over-correction. They collectively contribute to revealing the critical characteristics and locating drawbacks of GEC systems. Evaluating systems by Combining these dimensions leads to high human consistency over other reference-based and reference-less metrics. Extensive experiments on 2 human judgement datasets and 6 reference datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our method. All the codes will be released after the peer review.

To bridge the gap, this paper introduces the task of EXplainable GEC (EXGEC), which focuses on the integral role of both correction and explanation tasks. To facilitate the task, we propose EXCGEC, a tailored benchmark for Chinese EXGEC consisting of 8,216 explanation-augmented samples featuring the design of hybrid edit-wise explanations. We benchmark several series of LLMs in multiple settings, covering post-explaining and pre-explaining. To promote the development of the task, we introduce a comprehensive suite of automatic metrics and conduct human evaluation experiments to demonstrate the human consistency of the automatic metrics for free-text explanations. This study evaluates the performance of various supervised machine learning models in analyzing highly correlated neural signaling data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study, with a focus on predicting obsessive-compulsive disorder scales. We simulated a dataset to mimic the correlation structures commonly found in imaging data and evaluated logistic regression, elastic networks, random forests, and XGBoost on their ability to handle multicollinearity and accurately identify predictive features. Our study aims to guide the selection of appropriate machine learning methods for processing neuroimaging data, highlighting models that best capture underlying signals in high feature correlations and prioritize clinically relevant features associated with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Two-dimensional (2D) moiré materials have emerged as a highly tunable platform for investigating novel quantum states of matter arising from strong electronic correlations and nontrivial band topology. Recently, topological flat bands formed in 2D semiconducting moiré superlattices have attracted great interests. In particular, a series of topological quantum phases, including the long-sought fractional quantum anomalous Hall (FQAH) effect, have recently been experimentally observed in twisted bilayer MoTe2 (tMoTe2). However, the microscopic information of tMoTe2 moiré superlattice and its electronic structure is still lacking. Here, we present scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS) studies of the tMoTe2 moiré superlattice, with twist angles ranging from about 2.3° to 2.8°. We developed a contact-STM mode to apply pressure on tMoTe2 and observed a phase transition from band insulator to metal of tMoTe2 under pressure at the charge neutrality point. STM imaging reveals a pronounced in-plane lattice reconstruction with periodic strain redistribution in the tMoTe2, which serves as gauge fields for generating topological moiré bands. Importantly, the electronic states of the low-energy moiré flat bands primarily concentrate at the XM and MX regions as revealed by STS imaging. Such spatial distributions are nicely reproduced by our first principal calculations with a large-scale basis, suggesting the low-energy moiré flat bands are formed through the hybridization of K valley bands of the top layer and K' valley bands of the bottom layer. Overall, our findings provide compelling real-space evidence of electronic structure under pressure and topological flat bands of tMoTe2, paving the way for further STM/STS investigations of correlated topological states within the topological flat band in gate-tunable tMoTe2 devices.

For both measurements, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. In recent years, pretraining models have made significant advancements in the fields of natural language processing (NLP), computer vision (CV), and life sciences. The significant advancements in NLP and CV are predominantly driven by the expansion of model parameters and data size, a phenomenon now recognized as the scaling laws. However, research exploring scaling law in molecular pretraining models remains unexplored. In this work, we present Uni-Mol2 , an innovative molecular pretraining model that leverages a two-track transformer to effectively integrate features at the atomic level, graph level, and geometry structure level. Along with this, we systematically investigate the scaling law within molecular pretraining models, characterizing the power-law correlations between validation loss and model size, dataset size, and computational resources. Consequently, we successfully scale Uni-Mol2 to 1.1 billion parameters through pretraining on 800 million conformations, making it the largest molecular pretraining model to date. Extensive experiments show consistent improvement in the downstream tasks as the model size grows. The Uni-Mol2 with 1.1B parameters also outperforms existing methods, achieving an average 27% improvement on the QM9 and 14% on COMPAS-1D dataset.

Private data, being larger and quality-higher than public data, can greatly improve large language models (LLM). However, due to privacy concerns, this data is often dispersed in multiple silos, making its secure utilization for LLM training a challenge. Federated learning (FL) is an ideal solution for training models with distributed private data, but traditional frameworks like FedAvg are unsuitable for LLM due to their high computational demands on clients. An alternative, split learning, offloads most training parameters to the server while training embedding and output layers locally, making it more suitable for LLM. Nonetheless, it faces significant challenges in security and efficiency. Firstly, the gradients of embeddings are prone to attacks, leading to potential reverse engineering of private data. Furthermore, the server's limitation of handle only one client's training request at a time hinders parallel training, severely impacting training efficiency. In this paper, we propose a Federated Learning framework for LLM, named FL-GLM, which prevents data leakage caused by both server-side and peer-client attacks while improving training efficiency. Specifically, we first place the input block and output block on local client to prevent embedding gradient attacks from server. Secondly, we employ key-encryption during client-server communication to prevent reverse engineering attacks from peer-clients. Lastly, we employ optimization methods like client-batching or server-hierarchical, adopting different acceleration methods based on the actual computational capabilities of the server. Experimental results on NLU and generation tasks demonstrate that FL-GLM achieves comparable metrics to centralized chatGLM model, validating the effectiveness of our federated learning framework.

Efficient single instance segmentation is essential for unlocking features in the mobile imaging applications, such as capture or editing. Existing on-the-fly mobile imaging applications scope the segmentation task to portraits or the salient subject due to the computational constraints. Instance segmentation, despite its recent developments towards efficient networks, is still heavy due to the cost of computation on the entire image to identify all instances. To address this, we propose and formulate a one tap driven single instance segmentation task that segments a single instance selected by a user via a positive tap. This task, in contrast to the broader task of segmenting anything as suggested in the Segment Anything Model \cite{sam}, focuses on efficient segmentation of a single instance specified by the user. To solve this problem, we present TraceNet, which explicitly locates the selected instance by way of receptive field tracing. TraceNet identifies image regions that are related to the user tap and heavy computations are only performed on selected regions of the image. Therefore overall computation cost and memory consumption are reduced during inference. We evaluate the performance of TraceNet on instance IoU average over taps and the proportion of the region that a user tap can fall into for a high-quality single-instance mask. Experimental results on MS-COCO and LVIS demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach. TraceNet can jointly achieve the efficiency and interactivity, filling in the gap between needs for efficient mobile inference and recent research trend towards multimodal and interactive segmentation models.

Robust Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (RoUDA) aims to achieve not only clean but also robust cross-domain knowledge transfer from a labeled source domain to an unlabeled target domain. A number of works have been conducted by directly injecting adversarial training (AT) in UDA based on the self-training pipeline and then aiming to generate better adversarial examples (AEs) for AT. Despite the remarkable progress, these methods only focus on finding stronger AEs but neglect how to better learn from these AEs, thus leading to unsatisfied results. In this paper, we investigate robust UDA from a representation learning perspective and design a novel algorithm by utilizing the mutual information theory, dubbed MIRoUDA. Specifically, through mutual information optimization, MIRoUDA is designed to achieve three characteristics that are highly expected in robust UDA, i.e., robustness, discrimination, and generalization. We then propose a dual-model framework accordingly for robust UDA learning. Extensive experiments on various benchmarks verify the effectiveness of the proposed MIRoUDA, in which our method surpasses the state-of-the-arts by a large margin.

This study introduces a new implementation of the Columbia-University-Net (CU-Net) architecture for brain tumor segmentation using the BraTS 2019 dataset. The CU-Net model has a symmetrical U-shaped structure and uses convolutional layers, max pooling, and upsampling operations to achieve high-resolution segmentation. Our CU-Net model achieved a Dice score of 82.41%, surpassing two other state-of-the-art models. This improvement in segmentation accuracy highlights the robustness and effectiveness of the model, which helps to accurately delineate tumor boundaries, which is crucial for surgical planning and radiation therapy, and ultimately has the potential to improve patient outcomes.

Open Named Entity Recognition (NER), which involves identifying arbitrary types of entities from arbitrary domains, remains challenging for Large Language Models (LLMs). Recent studies suggest that fine-tuning LLMs on extensive NER data can boost their performance. However, training directly on existing datasets faces issues due to inconsistent entity definitions and redundant data, limiting LLMs to dataset-specific learning and hindering out-of-domain generalization. To address this, we present B2NERD, a cohesive and efficient dataset for Open NER, normalized from 54 existing English or Chinese datasets using a two-step approach. First, we detect inconsistent entity definitions across datasets and clarify them by distinguishable label names to construct a universal taxonomy of 400+ entity types. Second, we address redundancy using a data pruning strategy that selects fewer samples with greater category and semantic diversity. Comprehensive evaluation shows that B2NERD significantly improves LLMs' generalization on Open NER. Our B2NER models, trained on B2NERD, outperform GPT-4 by 6.8-12.0 F1 points and surpass previous methods in 3 out-of-domain benchmarks across 15 datasets and 6 languages.

Despite the wide applications for high-repetition-rate mode-locked fiber lasers, challenges persist in shortening the cavity length and coupling the fiber collimators for most existing techniques. Here, we introduce a novel collimator alignment method and demonstrate an all-polarization-maintaining erbium-doped fiber laser that contains a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror with a repetition rate of 213 MHz. Compared to the conventional method, we achieve in-situ alignment of the collimators in a simplified two-step process. Besides, through a comparison of the spectra from the output ports of the laser, we assess their quality and establish the spectral evolution relationships among these ports. It is found that, in addition to the widely believed large nonlinear effects, spectral interference also plays a significant role in spectral distortion. Moreover, a transition between different stability states is observed from the power variation of the single pulse.

Molecular simulations are essential tools in computational chemistry, enabling the prediction and understanding of molecular interactions and thermodynamic properties of biomolecules. However, traditional force fields face significant challenges in accurately representing novel molecules and complex chemical environments due to the labor-intensive process of manually setting optimization parameters and the high computational cost of quantum mechanical calculations. To overcome these difficulties, we fine-tuned a high-accuracy DPA-2 pre-trained model and applied it to optimize force field parameters on-the-fly, significantly reducing computational costs. Our method combines this fine-tuned DPA-2 model with a node-embedding-based similarity metric, allowing seamless augmentation to new chemical species without manual intervention. We applied this process to the TYK2 inhibitor and PTP1B systems and demonstrated its effectiveness through the improvement of free energy perturbation calculation results. This advancement contributes valuable insights and tools for the computational chemistry community.

Survival analysis, as a challenging task, requires integrating Whole Slide Images (WSIs) and genomic data for comprehensive decision-making. There are two main challenges in this task: significant heterogeneity and complex inter- and intra-modal interactions between the two modalities. Previous approaches utilize co-attention methods, which fuse features from both modalities only once after separate encoding. However, these approaches are insufficient for modeling the complex task due to the heterogeneous nature between the modalities. To address these issues, we propose a Biased Progressive Encoding (BPE) paradigm, performing encoding and fusion simultaneously. This paradigm uses one modality as a reference when encoding the other. It enables deep fusion of the modalities through multiple alternating iterations, progressively reducing the cross-modal disparities and facilitating complementary interactions. Besides modality heterogeneity, survival analysis involves various biomarkers from WSIs, genomics, and their combinations. The critical biomarkers may exist in different modalities under individual variations, necessitating flexible adaptation of the models to specific scenarios. Therefore, we further propose a Mixture of Multimodal Experts (MoME) layer to dynamically selects tailored experts in each stage of the BPE paradigm. Experts incorporate reference information from another modality to varying degrees, enabling a balanced or biased focus on different modalities during the encoding process. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of our method on various datasets, including TCGA-BLCA, TCGA-UCEC and TCGA-LUAD. Codes are available at https://github.com/BearCleverProud/MoME.

Interferometric experiments designed to detect the highly redshifted 21-cm signal from neutral hydrogen are producing increasingly stringent constraints on the 21-cm power spectrum, but some k-modes remain systematics-dominated. Mutual coupling is a major systematic that must be overcome in order to detect the 21-cm signal, and simulations that reproduce effects seen in the data can guide strategies for mitigating mutual coupling. In this paper, we analyse 12 nights of data from the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array and compare the data against simulations that include a computationally efficient and physically motivated semi-analytic treatment of mutual coupling. We find that simulated coupling features qualitatively agree with coupling features in the data; however, coupling features in the data are brighter than the simulated features, indicating the presence of additional coupling mechanisms not captured by our model. We explore the use of fringe-rate filters as mutual coupling mitigation tools and use our simulations to investigate the effects of mutual coupling on a simulated cosmological 21-cm power spectrum in a "worst case" scenario where the foregrounds are particularly bright. We find that mutual coupling contaminates a large portion of the "EoR Window", and the contamination is several orders-of-magnitude larger than our simulated cosmic signal across a wide range of cosmological Fourier modes. While our fiducial fringe-rate filtering strategy reduces mutual coupling by roughly a factor of 100 in power, a non-negligible amount of coupling cannot be excised with fringe-rate filters, so more sophisticated mitigation strategies are required.

Web-crawled image-text pairs are inherently noisy. Prior studies demonstrate that semantically aligning and enriching textual descriptions of these pairs can significantly enhance model training across various vision-language tasks, particularly text-to-image generation. However, large-scale investigations in this area remain predominantly closed-source. Our paper aims to bridge this community effort, leveraging the powerful and \textit{open-sourced} LLaMA-3, a GPT-4 level LLM. Our recaptioning pipeline is simple: first, we fine-tune a LLaMA-3-8B powered LLaVA-1.5 and then employ it to recaption 1.3 billion images from the DataComp-1B dataset. Our empirical results confirm that this enhanced dataset, Recap-DataComp-1B, offers substantial benefits in training advanced vision-language models. For discriminative models like CLIP, we observe enhanced zero-shot performance in cross-modal retrieval tasks. For generative models like text-to-image Diffusion Transformers, the generated images exhibit a significant improvement in alignment with users' text instructions, especially in following complex queries. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measured in both destructive and constructive interference scenarios for the first time. The mass and width of the $η_{c}(1S)$ are measured to be $M=(2984.14 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.38)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ=(28.82 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.82)$ MeV, respectively. Clear signals for the decays of the $χ_{cJ}(J=0,1,2)$ and the $η_{c}(2S)$ to $2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ are also observed for the first time, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured. The ratio of the branching fractions between the $η_{c}(2S)$ and $η_{c}(1S)$ decays is significantly lower than the theoretical prediction, which might suggest different dynamics in their decays.

The double pion photoproduction off nucleons near threshold is analyzed in a covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory up to next to leading order, where the $Δ(1232)$, $N^*(1400)$ and $ρ(770)$ resonances are included as explicit degrees of freedom. For the process $γp \to π^+ π^0 n$, the chiral results of total cross sections, invariant-mass distributions and beam-helicity asymmetry are in good agreement with the experimental data within uncertainties. For the process $γp \to π^0 π^0 p$, the prediction of total cross section deviates from the existing experimental data. Once the final-state interaction of $ππ$ in the isoscalar S-wave channel is taken into account, a good description of the cross section is achieved. The effect of the Roper resonance always turns out be negligible, and hence can be thrown away in future study of this process.

Deoccluding the hidden portions of objects in a scene is a formidable task, particularly when addressing real-world scenes. In this paper, we present a new self-supervised PArallel visible-to-COmplete diffusion framework, named PACO, a foundation model for object-level scene deocclusion. Leveraging the rich prior of pre-trained models, we first design the parallel variational autoencoder, which produces a full-view feature map that simultaneously encodes multiple complete objects, and the visible-to-complete latent generator, which learns to implicitly predict the full-view feature map from partial-view feature map and text prompts extracted from the incomplete objects in the input image. To train PACO, we create a large-scale dataset with 500k samples to enable self-supervised learning, avoiding tedious annotations of the amodal masks and occluded regions. At inference, we devise a layer-wise deocclusion strategy to improve efficiency while maintaining the deocclusion quality. Extensive experiments on COCOA and various real-world scenes demonstrate the superior capability of PACO for scene deocclusion, surpassing the state of the arts by a large margin. Our method can also be extended to cross-domain scenes and novel categories that are not covered by the training set. Further, we demonstrate the deocclusion applicability of PACO in single-view 3D scene reconstruction and object recomposition.

We introduce NATURAL PLAN, a realistic planning benchmark in natural language containing 3 key tasks: Trip Planning, Meeting Planning, and Calendar Scheduling. We focus our evaluation on the planning capabilities of LLMs with full information on the task, by providing outputs from tools such as Google Flights, Google Maps, and Google Calendar as contexts to the models. This eliminates the need for a tool-use environment for evaluating LLMs on Planning. We observe that NATURAL PLAN is a challenging benchmark for state of the art models. For example, in Trip Planning, GPT-4 and Gemini 1.5 Pro could only achieve 31.1% and 34.8% solve rate respectively. We find that model performance drops drastically as the complexity of the problem increases: all models perform below 5% when there are 10 cities, highlighting a significant gap in planning in natural language for SoTA LLMs. We also conduct extensive ablation studies on NATURAL PLAN to further shed light on the (in)effectiveness of approaches such as self-correction, few-shot generalization, and in-context planning with long-contexts on improving LLM planning.

High-quality human-annotated data is crucial for modern deep learning pipelines, yet the human annotation process is both costly and time-consuming. Given a constrained human labeling budget, selecting an informative and representative data subset for labeling can significantly reduce human annotation effort. Well-performing state-of-the-art (SOTA) coreset selection methods require ground-truth labels over the whole dataset, failing to reduce the human labeling burden. Meanwhile, SOTA label-free coreset selection methods deliver inferior performance due to poor geometry-based scores. In this paper, we introduce ELFS, a novel label-free coreset selection method. ELFS employs deep clustering to estimate data difficulty scores without ground-truth labels. Furthermore, ELFS uses a simple but effective double-end pruning method to mitigate bias on calculated scores, which further improves the performance on selected coresets. We evaluate ELFS on five vision benchmarks and show that ELFS consistently outperforms SOTA label-free baselines. For instance, at a 90% pruning rate, ELFS surpasses the best-performing baseline by 5.3% on CIFAR10 and 7.1% on CIFAR100. Moreover, ELFS even achieves comparable performance to supervised coreset selection at low pruning rates (e.g., 30% and 50%) on CIFAR10 and ImageNet-1K.

Benefiting from well-trained deep neural networks (DNNs), model compression have captured special attention for computing resource limited equipment, especially edge devices. Knowledge distillation (KD) is one of the widely used compression techniques for edge deployment, by obtaining a lightweight student model from a well-trained teacher model released on public platforms. However, it has been empirically noticed that the backdoor in the teacher model will be transferred to the student model during the process of KD. Although numerous KD methods have been proposed, most of them focus on the distillation of a high-performing student model without robustness consideration. Besides, some research adopts KD techniques as effective backdoor mitigation tools, but they fail to perform model compression at the same time. Consequently, it is still an open problem to well achieve two objectives of robust KD, i.e., student model's performance and backdoor mitigation. To address these issues, we propose RobustKD, a robust knowledge distillation that compresses the model while mitigating backdoor based on feature variance. Specifically, RobustKD distinguishes the previous works in three key aspects: (1) effectiveness: by distilling the feature map of the teacher model after detoxification, the main task performance of the student model is comparable to that of the teacher model; (2) robustness: by reducing the characteristic variance between the teacher model and the student model, it mitigates the backdoor of the student model under backdoored teacher model scenario; (3) generic: RobustKD still has good performance in the face of multiple data models (e.g., WRN 28-4, Pyramid-200) and diverse DNNs (e.g., ResNet50, MobileNet).

In this work, under the hypothesis that quark matter may not be strange [Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 222001 (2018)], we adopt a modification of the coupling constant of the four-quark scalar interaction $G\rightarrow G_1+G_2\langle\barψψ\rangle$ in the 2-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model to study nonstrange hybrid stars. According to lattice QCD simulation results of the critical temperature at zero chemical potential, $G_1$ and $G_2$ are constrained as $G_1\in(1.935, 1.972)$ GeV$^{-2}$, and $G_2\in(-1.582, -0.743)$ GeV$^{-5}$, respectively. To obtain hybrid equation of states, the Maxwell construction is used to describe the first-order confinement-deconfinement phase transition in hybrid stars. With recent measurements on neutron star mass, radius, and tidal deformability, the hybrid equation of states are constrained. The result suggests that pure nonstrange quark matter cores can exist in hybrid stars, possessing 0.014-0.026 solar mass with the bag constant $B^{1/4}$ in a range of 148-161 MeV. It is argued that the binary neutron stars in GW170817 should be hadron stars.

The $h_c \to π^+ π^- π^0$ decay is observed with a significance of 9.6$σ$ after taking into account systematic uncertainties. Evidences for $h_c \to K^+ K^- π^0$ and $h_c \to K^+ K^- η$ are found with significances of $3.5σ$ and $3.3σ$, respectively, after considering the systematic uncertainties. The branching fractions of these decays are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to π^+ π^- π^0)=(1.36\pm0.16\pm0.14)\times10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to K^+ K^- π^0)=(3.26\pm0.84\pm0.36)\times10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to K^+ K^- η)=(3.13\pm1.08\pm0.38)\times10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. No significant signal of $h_c\toπ^+π^-η$ is found, and the upper limit of its decay branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(h_c\toπ^+π^-η) < 4.0 \times 10^{-4}$ at 90% confidence level.

Remote heart rate measurement is an increasingly concerned research field, usually using remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) to collect heart rate information through video data collection. However, in certain specific scenarios (such as low light conditions, intense lighting, and non-line-of-sight situations), traditional imaging methods fail to capture image information effectively, that may lead to difficulty or inability in measuring heart rate. To address these limitations, this study proposes using ghost imaging as a substitute for traditional imaging in the aforementioned scenarios. The mean absolute error between experimental measurements and reference true values is 4.24 bpm.Additionally, the bucket signals obtained by the ghost imaging system can be directly processed using digital signal processing techniques, thereby enhancing personal privacy protection.

Diffusion-based text-to-image generation models trained on extensive text-image pairs have shown the capacity to generate photorealistic images consistent with textual descriptions. However, a significant limitation of these models is their slow sample generation, which requires iterative refinement through the same network. In this paper, we enhance Score identity Distillation (SiD) by developing long and short classifier-free guidance (LSG) to efficiently distill pretrained Stable Diffusion models without using real training data. SiD aims to optimize a model-based explicit score matching loss, utilizing a score-identity-based approximation alongside the proposed LSG for practical computation. By training exclusively with fake images synthesized with its one-step generator, SiD equipped with LSG rapidly improves FID and CLIP scores, achieving state-of-the-art FID performance while maintaining a competitive CLIP score. Specifically, its data-free distillation of Stable Diffusion 1.5 achieves a record low FID of 8.15 on the COCO-2014 validation set, with a CLIP score of 0.304 at an LSG scale of 1.5, and a FID of 9.56 with a CLIP score of 0.313 at an LSG scale of 2. Our SiD-LSG code and distilled one-step text-to-image generators are available at https://github.com/mingyuanzhou/SiD-LSG
