The AMoRE collaboration searches for neutrinoless double beta decay of $^{100}$Mo using molybdate scintillating crystals via low temperature thermal calorimetric detection. The early phases of the experiment, AMoRE-pilot and AMoRE-I, have demonstrated competitive discovery potential. Presently, the AMoRE-II experiment, featuring a large detector array with about 90 kg of $^{100}$Mo isotope, is under construction. This paper discusses the baseline design and characterization of the lithium molybdate cryogenic calorimeters to be used in the AMoRE-II detector modules. The results from prototype setups that incorporate new housing structures and two different crystal masses (316 g and 517 - 521 g), operated at 10 mK temperature, show energy resolutions (FWHM) of 7.55 - 8.82 keV at the 2.615 MeV $^{208}$Tl $γ$ line, and effective light detection of 0.79 - 0.96 keV/MeV. The simultaneous heat and light detection enables clear separation of alpha particles with a discrimination power of 12.37 - 19.50 at the energy region around $^6$Li(n, $α$)$^3$H with Q-value = 4.785 MeV. Promising detector performances were demonstrated at temperatures as high as 30 mK, which relaxes the temperature constraints for operating the large AMoRE-II array.

We investigate the evolution of non-extensivity in the photon distribution during the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) epoch using Tsallis statistics. Assuming a minimal deviation from the Planck distribution, we construct the perturbed Boltzmann equation for photons, including the collision terms for pair creation and annihilation processes. We analyze the possibility that these collisions could cause a slight increase in the number of high-frequency photons within the BBN era, and consequently, the primordial plasma might be temporarily placed in a state of chemical non-equilibrium. We also discuss the restoration of the photon distribution to an equilibrium state as the Universe enters the matter-dominated era. These findings, which suggest possible changes in the photon distribution during the epoch between the BBN and the recombination, offer insights that support the previously proposed ansatz solution to the primordial lithium problem in arXiv:1812.09472.

The mass table in the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) with the PC-PK1 density functional has been established for even-$Z$ nuclei with $8\le Z\le120$, extended from the previous work for even-even nuclei [Zhang $\it{et.~al.}$ (DRHBc Mass Table Collaboration), At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 144, 101488 (2022)]. The calculated binding energies, two-nucleon and one-neutron separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, and neutron and proton Fermi surfaces are tabulated and compared with available experimental data. A total of 4829 even-$Z$ nuclei are predicted to be bound, with an rms deviation of 1.477 MeV from the 1244 mass data. Good agreement with the available experimental odd-even mass differences, $α$ decay energies, and charge radii is also achieved. The description accuracy for nuclear masses and nucleon separation energies as well as the prediction for drip lines is compared with the results obtained from other relativistic and nonrelativistic density functional. The comparison shows that the DRHBc theory with PC-PK1 provides an excellent microscopic description for the masses of even-$Z$ nuclei. The systematics of the nucleon separation energies, odd-even mass differences, pairing energies, two-nucleon gaps, $α$ decay energies, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron density distributions, and neutron mean-field potentials are discussed.

A scale-independent energy-momentum squared gravity (EMSG) allows different gravitational couplings for different types of sources and has been proven to have interesting implications in cosmology. In this paper, the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) formalism and the latest observational constraints are being used in order to extract constraints on this class of modified gravity models. The model has been constrained using the light element reaction rates. Using the tight constraint from BBN on the correction term in the Friedman equation due to EMSG, we find a significant deviation in the matter power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) even for a very small allowed value of the modification parameter, thus pointing out the sensitivity of the matter power spectrum at the small scales.

This study provides an improved understanding of the penetration probabilities (PPs) in nuclear reactions of light nuclei by correcting the assumptions used in the conventional Gamow factor. The Gamow factor effectively describes the PP in nuclear reactions based on two assumptions: low particle energy than the Coulomb barrier and neglecting the dependence of nuclear interaction potential. However, we find that the assumptions are not valid for light nuclei. As a result of a calculation that excludes the assumptions, we obtain the PP that depends on the nuclear interaction potential depth for the light nuclei. For the potential depth fitted by the experimental fusion cross-section, we present that PPs of light nuclei (D+D, D+T, D+$^3$He, p+D, p+$^6$Li, and p+$^7$Li) become higher than the conventional one near the Coulomb barrier. We also discuss the implications of the modified PP, such as changes in the Gamow peak energy, which determine the measurement of the energy range of the nuclear cross-section in experiments, and the electron screening effect.

We investigate the cosmic evolutions in the extended Starobinsky model (eSM) obtained by adding one $R^{ab}R_{ab}$ term to the Starobinsky model. We discuss the possibility of various cosmic evolutions with a special focus on the radiation-dominated era (RDE). Using simple assumptions, a second-order non-linear differential equation describing the various cosmic evolutions in the eSM is introduced. By solving this non-linear equation numerically, we show that the various cosmic evolutions, such as the standard cosmic evolution ($a \propto t^{1/2}$) and a unique oscillating cosmic evolution, are feasible due to the effects of higher-order terms introduced beyond Einstein's gravity. Furthermore, we consider big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), which is the most important observational result in the RDE, to constrain the free parameters of the eSM. The primordial abundances of the light elements, such as $^{4}$He, D, $^{3}$He, $^{7}$Li, and $^{6}$Li by the cosmic evolutions are compared with the most recent observational data. It turns out that most non-standard cosmic evolutions can not easily satisfy these BBN constraints, but a free parameter of the viable models with the oscillating cosmic evolution is shown to have an upper limit by the constraints. In particular, we find that the free parameter is most sensitive to deuterium and $^4$He abundances, which are being precisely measured among other elements. Therefore, more accurate measurements in the near future may enable us to distinguish the eSM from the standard model as well as other models.

We explore the effects of electromagnetic (EM) fluctuations in plasmas on solar neutrino fluxes exploiting the fluctuation-dissipation theorem. We find that the EM spectrum in the solar core is enhanced by the EM fluctuations due to the high density of the Sun, which increases the radiation energy density and pressure. By the EM fluctuations involving the modified radiation formula, the central temperature decreases when the central pressure of the Sun is fixed. With a help of the empirical relation between central temperature and neutrino fluxes deduced from the numerical solar models, we present the change in each of the solar neutrino fluxes by the EM fluctuations. We also discuss the enhanced radiation pressure and energy density by the EM fluctuations for other astronomical objects.

We investigate the neutrino flavor change effects due to neutrino self-interaction, shock wave propagation as well as matter effect on the neutrino-process of the core-collapsing supernova (CCSN). For the hydrodynamics, we use two models: a simple thermal bomb model and a specified hydrodynamic model for SN1987A. As a pre-supernova model, we take an updated model adjusted to explain the SN1987A employing recent development of the $(n,γ)$ reaction rates for nuclei near the stability line $(A \sim 100)$. As for the neutrino luminosity, we adopt two different models: equivalent neutrino luminosity and non-equivalent luminosity models. The latter is taken from the synthetic analyses of the CCSN simulation data which involved quantitatively the results obtained by various neutrino transport models. Relevant neutrino-induced reaction rates are calculated by a shell model for light nuclei and a quasi-particle random phase approximation model for heavy nuclei. For each model, we present abundances of the light nuclei ($^7$Li, $^7$Be, $^{11}$B and $^{11}$C) and heavy nuclei ($^{92}$Nb, $^{98}$Tc, $^{138}$La and $^{180}$Ta) produced by the neutrino-process. The light nuclei abundances turn out to be sensitive to the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein (MSW) region around O-Ne-Mg region while the heavy nuclei are mainly produced prior to the MSW region. Through the detailed analyses, we find that neutrino self-interaction becomes a key ingredient in addition to the MSW effect for understanding the neutrino-process and the relevant nuclear abundances. The normal mass hierarchy is shown to be more compatible with the meteorite data. Main nuclear reactions for each nucleus are also investigated in detail.

Using the relativistic mean-field model with nonlinear couplings between the isoscalar and isovector mesons, we study the properties of isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. Not only the vector mixing, $ω_μω^μ\mathbfρ_ν\mathbfρ^ν$, but also the quartic interaction due to the scalar mesons, $σ^{2}\mathbfδ^{2}$, is taken into account to investigate the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy, $E_{\rm sym}$, and the neutron-star properties. It is found that the $δ$ meson increases $E_{\rm sym}$ at high densities, whereas the $σ$-$δ$ mixing makes $E_{\rm sym}$ soft above the saturation density. Furthermore, the $δ$ meson and its mixing have a large influence on the radius and tidal deformability of a neutron star. In particular, the $σ$-$δ$ mixing reduces the neutron-star radius, and, thus, the present calculation can simultaneously reproduce the dimensionless tidal deformabilities of a canonical $1.4M_{\odot}$ neutron star observed from the binary neutron star merger, GW170817, and from the compact binary coalescence, GW190814.

Ground-state properties of even-even nuclei with $8\le Z\le120$ from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line have been investigated using the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) with the density functional PC-PK1. With the effects of deformation and continuum included simultaneously, 2583 even-even nuclei are predicted to be bound. The calculated binding energies, two-nucleon separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, and neutron and proton Fermi surfaces are tabulated and compared with available experimental data. The rms deviation from the 637 mass data is 1.518 MeV, providing one of the best microscopic descriptions for nuclear masses. The drip lines obtained from DRHBc calculations are compared with other calculations, including the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) and triaxial relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (TRHB) calculations with PC-PK1. The deformation and continuum effects on the limits of the nuclear landscape are discussed. Possible peninsulas consisting of bound nuclei beyond the two-neutron drip line are predicted. The systematics of the two-nucleon separation energies, two-nucleon gaps, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron densities, neutron mean-field potentials, and pairing energies in the DRHBc calculations are also discussed. In addition, the $α$ decay energies extracted are in good agreement with available data.

The Advanced Mo-based Rare process Experiment (AMoRE)-Pilot experiment is an initial phase of the AMoRE search for neutrinoless double beta decay of $^{100}$Mo, with the purpose of investigating the level and sources of backgrounds. Searches for neutrinoless double beta decay generally require ultimately low backgrounds. Surface $α$ decays on the crystals themselves or nearby materials can deposit a continuum of energies that can be as high as the $Q$-value of the decay itself and may fall in the region of interest (ROI). To understand these background events, we studied backgrounds from radioactive contaminations internal to and on the surface of the crystals or nearby materials with Geant4-based Monte Carlo simulations. In this study, we report on the measured $α$ energy spectra fitted with the corresponding simulated spectra for six crystal detectors, where sources of background contributions could be identified through high energy $α$ peaks and continuum parts in the energy spectrum for both internal and surface contaminations. We determine the low-energy contributions from internal and surface $α$ contaminations by extrapolating from the $α$ background fitting model.

We estimate yields of $p$-nuclei such as $^{92,94}\mathrm{Mo}$ and $^{96,98}\mathrm{Ru}$ through the $νp$-process in various supernova (SN) progenitors based upon recent models. In particular, the $νp$-process in energetic hypernovae produces a large amount of $p$-nuclei compared to the yield in ordinary core-collapse SNe. Because of this the abundances of $^{92,94}\mathrm{Mo}$ and $^{96,98}\mathrm{Ru}$ in the Galaxy are significantly enhanced at [Fe/H]=0 by the $νp$-process. We find that the $νp$-process in hypernovae is the main contributor to the elemental abundance of $^{92}$Mo at low metallicity [Fe/H$]<-2$. Our theoretical prediction of the elemental abundances in metal-poor stars becomes more consistent with observational data when the $νp$-process in hypernovae is taken into account.

A moving ion in plasma creates a deformed electric potential depending on the ion velocity, which leads to the distinct screening effect compared to the standard static Salpeter formula. In this paper, adopting the test charge method, we explore the dynamical screening effects on big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We find that the high temperature in the early universe causes the ion velocity to be faster than the solar condition so that the electric potential is effectively polarized. However, the low density of background plasma components significantly suppresses the dynamical screening effects on thermonuclear reaction rates during the BBN epoch. We compare our results with several thermonuclear reaction rates for solar fusion considering the dynamical screening effects. Also, we discuss the additional plasma properties in other astrophysical sites for the possible expansion from the present calculation in the future.

We have studied the large scale dynamo process forced with helical magnetic energy. The magnetically driven dynamo is not so well studied as kinetically forced dynamo. It has been thought to represent the amplification of magnetic field in the stellar corona, accretion disk, or plasma lab. However, the interaction between the helical magnetic field and plasma is a more fundamental phenomenon that can be extended to the early Universe. The scale-invariant helical magnetic field not only explains the currently observed large scale astrophysical magnetic fields but also has information on the horizon scale in the early Universe.
The interaction between magnetic field and plasma is inherently non-linear, making its mechanism difficult to understand. But, if the plasma system is driven with helical field, the process can be linearized with alpha&betaand large scale magnetic field. Conventionally, alpha effect is thought to transfer magnetic field to the large scale regime, and betaeffect diffuses magnetic field. However, these conclusions are based on the incompletely derived alpha&beta. To get the exact profiles of evolving alpha&\b{eta}, we solved a coupled semi-analytic equation set and applied the result to simulation data for the large scale magnetic helicity and magnetic energy.
Our result shows that the averaged alpha effect decreases before making a significant contribution to the amplification of large scale B field. Rather, betaeffect, which keeps negative, de facto plays a key role in the amplification of large scale B field with Laplacian. And, this negative diffusivity accounts for the attenuation of plasma kinetic energy

Taking into account the terrestrial experiments and the recent astrophysical observations of neutron stars and gravitational-wave signals, we impose restrictions on the equation of state (EoS) for isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. Using the relativistic mean-field model with SU(3) flavor symmetry, we investigate the impacts of effective nucleon mass, nuclear incompressibility, and slope parameter of nuclear symmetry energy on the nuclear and neutron-star properties. It is found that the astrophysical information of massive neutron stars and tidal deformabilities as well as the nuclear experimental data plays an important role to restrict the EoS for neutron stars. Especially, the softness of the nuclear EoS due to the existence of hyperons in the core gives stringent constraints on those physical quantities. Furthermore, it is possible to put limits on the curvature parameter of nuclear symmetry energy by means of the nuclear and astrophysical calculations.

The neutrino process ($ν$-process) for the production of 7Li and 11B in core-collapse supernovae (SNe) is extensively investigated. Initial abundances of s-nuclei and other physical conditions are derived from an updated calculation of the SN 1987A progenitor. The nuclear reaction network including neutrino reactions is constructed with the variable order Bader-Deuflhard integration method. We find that yields of 7Li and 11B significantly depend on the stellar metallicity while they are independent of the weak s-process during the stellar evolution. When the metallicity is high, there are more neutron absorbers, i.e., 56Fe, 14N (from initial CNO nuclei), and 54Fe, and the neutron abundance is small during the $ν$-process. Since 7Be is predominantly destroyed via 7Be(n,p)7Li, a change in the neutron abundance results in different 7Be yields. Then, the calculated yield ratio 7Li/11B=0.93 for the solar metallicity is larger than that for the SN 1987A 7Li/11B=0.80 by 16 % in the inverted mass hierarchy case. We analyze contributions of respective reactions as well as abundance evolution, and clarify the $ν$-process of 7Li and 11B.

Adopting the 3+1 neutrino mixing parameters by the IceCube and shortbase line experiments, we investigate the sterile-active neutrino oscillation effects on the supernova neutrino process. For the sterile neutrino ($ν_s$), we study two different luminosity models. First, we presume that the $ν_s$ does not interact with other particles through the standard interactions apart from the oscillation with the active neutrinos. Second, we consider that $ν_s$ can be directly produced by $ν_e$ scattering with matter. In both cases, we find that the pattern of neutrino oscillations can be changed drastically by the $ν_s$ in supernova environments. Especially multiple resonances occur, and consequently affect thermal neutrino-induced reaction rates. As a result, $^7$Li, $^7$Be, $^{11}$B, $^{11}$C, $^{92}$Nb, $^{98}$Tc and $^{138}$La yields in the $ν$-process are changed. Among those nuclei, $^7$Li and $^{11}$B yields can be constrained by the analysis of observed SiC X grains. Based on the meteoritic data, we conclude that the second model can be allowed while first model is excluded. The viability of the second model depends on the sterile neutrino temperature and the neutrino mass hierarchy.

We explore photon vortex generation in synchrotron radiations from a spiral moving electron under a uniform magnetic field along z-axis using Landau quantization. The obtained wave-function of the photon vortecies is the eigen-state of the z-component of the total angular momentum (zTAM). In m-th harmonic radiations, individual photons are the eigen-state of zTAM of m. This is consistent with previous studies. Using the presently obtained wave-functions we calculate the decay widths and the energy spectra under extremely strong magnetic fields of 10^12 - 10^13 G, which are observed in astrophysical objects such as magnetized neutron stars and jets and accretion disks around black holes. The result suggests that photon vortices are predominantly generated in such objects. Although they have no coherency it is expected that photon vortices from the universe are measured using a detector based upon a quantum effect in future. This effect also affects to stellar nucleosynthesis in strong magnetic fields.

We consider the modification by $ν$ self-interaction ($ν$-SI) near the neutrinosphere and the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein effect in outer layers for time-dependent neutrino energy spectra. Abundances of $^{7}$Li and heavy isotopes $^{92}$Nb, $^{98}$Tc and $^{138}$La are reduced by a factor of 1.5-2.0 by the $ν$-SI. In contrast, $^{11}$B is relatively insensitive to the $ν$-SI. We find that the abundance ratio of heavy to light nucleus, $^{138}$La/$^{11}$B, is sensitive to the neutrino mass hierarchy, and the normal mass hierarchy is more likely to be consistent with the solar abundances.

During the propagation of neutrinos from the proto-neutron star, their flavors change and the neutrino reaction rates for spallation of 12C and 4He are affected. In this work corrected neutrino spallation cross sections for 4He and 12C are adopted. Initial abundances involving heavy s-nuclei and other physical conditions are derived in a new calculation of the SN 1987A progenitor in which effects of the progenitor metallicity are included. A dependence of the SN nucleosynthesis and final yields of 7Li and 11B on the neutrino mass hierarchy are shown in several stellar locations. In the normal hierarchy case, the charged current reaction rates of electron neutrinos are enhanced, and yields of proton-rich nuclei, along with 7Be and 11C, are increased. In the inverted hierarchy case, the charged current reaction rates of electron antineutrinos are enhanced, and yields of neutron-rich nuclei, along with 7Li and 11B, are increased. We find that variation of the metallicity modifies the yields of 7Li, 7Be, 11B, and 11C. This effect is caused by changes in the neutron abundance during SN nucleosynthesis. Therefore, accurate calculations of Li and B production in SNe should take into account the metallicity of progenitor stars.

We propose a correction of the standard Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) scenario to resolve the primordial lithium problem by considering a possibility that the primordial plasma can deviate from the ideal state. In the standard BBN, the primordial plasma is assumed to be ideal, with particles and photons satisfying the Maxwell-Boltzmann and Planck distribution, respectively. We suggest that this assumption of the primordial plasma being ideal might oversimplify the early Universe and cause the lithium problem. We find that deviation of photon distribution from the Planck distribution, which is parameterised with the help of Tsallis statistics, can resolve the primordial lithium problem when the particle distributions of the primordial plasma still follow the MaxwellBoltzmann distribution. We discuss how the primordial plasma can be weakly non-ideal in this specific fashion and its effects on the cosmic evolution.

Existence of hypothetical fourth neutrino, so-called sterile neutrino, is one of open issues in the particle and neutrino physics. This fourth neutrino is a candidate for explaining some anomalies reported in LSND, MiniBoone, reactor experiments, and gallium experiments. To search for the existence of the sterile neutrino, we report detailed analysis of a feasible experiment for short baseline electron antineutrino (${\barν}_{e}$) disappearance study, in which a ${\barν}_{e}$ source from $^{8}$Li generator is considered under non-accelerator system. For $^{8}$Li production, we suggest to use $^{252}$Cf source as an intense neutron emitter, by which one can produce $^{8}$Li isotope through $^{7}$Li(n,$γ$)$^{8}$Li reaction, effectively. Using the $^{8}$Li generator, one does not need any accelerator or reactor facilities because the generator can be placed on any present and/or planned neutrino detectors as closely as possible. For the effect of the possible sterile neutrinos, we estimate expected neutrino flux and event rates from the neutrino source scheme, and show neutrino disappearance features and possible reaction rate changes by the sterile neutrino using the spectral shape analysis.

We review important reactions in the big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) model involving a long-lived negatively charged massive particle, $X^-$, which is much heavier than nucleons. This model can explain the observed $^7$Li abundances of metal-poor stars, and predicts a primordial $^9$Be abundance that is larger than the standard BBN prediction. In the BBN epoch, nuclei recombine with the $X^-$ particle. Because of the heavy $X^-$ mass, the atomic size of bound states $A_X$ is as small as the nuclear size. The nonresonant recombination rates are then dominated by the $d$-wave $\rightarrow$ 2P transition for $^7$Li and $^{7,9}$Be. The $^7$Be destruction occurs via a recombination with the $X^-$ followed by a proton capture, and the primordial $^7$Li abundance is reduced. Also, the $^9$Be production occurs via the recombination of $^7$Li and $X^-$ followed by deuteron capture. The initial abundance and the lifetime of the $X^-$ particles are constrained from a BBN reaction network calculation. We estimate that the derived parameter region for the $^7$Li reduction is allowed in supersymmetric or Kaluza-Klein (KK) models. We find that either the selectron, smuon, KK electron or KK muon could be candidates for the $X^-$ with $m_X\sim {\mathcal O}(1)$ TeV, while the stau and KK tau cannot.

To investigate the existence of sterile neutrino, we propose a new neutrino production method using $^{13}$C beams and a $^{9}$Be target for short-baseline electron antineutrino (${\barν}_{e}$) disappearance study. The production of secondary unstable isotopes which can emit neutrinos from the $^{13}$C + $^{9}$Be reaction is calculated with three different nucleus-nucleus (AA) reaction models. Different isotope yields are obtained using these models, but the results of the neutrino flux are found to have unanimous similarities. This feature gives an opportunity to study neutrino oscillation through shape analysis. In this work, expected neutrino flux and event rates are discussed in detail through intensive simulation of the light ion collision reaction and the neutrino flux from the beta decay of unstable isotopes followed by this collision. Together with the reactor and accelerator anomalies, the present proposed ${\barν}_{e}$ source is shown to be a practically alternative test of the existence of the $Δm^{2}$ $\sim$ 1 eV$^{2}$ scale sterile neutrino.

By assuming the existence of extra-dimensional sterile neutrinos in big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) epoch, we investigate the sterile neutrino ($ν_{\rm s}$) effects on the BBN and constrain some parameters associated with the $ν_{\rm s}$ properties. First, for cosmic expansion rate, we take into account effects of a five-dimensional bulk and intrinsic tension of the brane embedded in the bulk, and constrain a key parameter of the extra dimension by using the observational element abundances. Second, effects of the $ν_{\rm s}$ traveling on or off the brane are considered. In this model, the effective mixing angle between a $ν_{\rm s}$ and an active neutrino depends on energy, which may give rise to a resonance effect on the mixing angle. Consequently, reaction rate of the $ν_{\rm s}$ can be drastically changed during the cosmic evolution. We estimated abundances and temperature of the $ν_{\rm s}$ by solving the rate equation as a function of temperature until the sterile neutrino decoupling. We then find that the relic abundance of the $ν_{\rm s}$ is drastically enhanced by the extra-dimension and maximized for a characteristic resonance energy $E_{\rm res}\gtrsim 0.01$ GeV. Finally, some constraints related to the $ν_{\rm s}$, mixing angle and mass difference, are discussed in detail with the comparison of our BBN calculations corrected by the extra-dimensional $ν_{\rm s}$ to observational data on light element abundances.

We study pion production by proton synchrotron radiation in the presence of a strong magnetic field when the Landau numbers of the initial and final protons are $n_{i,f} \sim 10^4 - 10^5$. We find in our relativistic field theory calculations that the pion decay width depends only on the field strength parameter which previously was only conjectured based upon semi-classical arguments. Moreover, we also find new results that the decay width satisfies a robust scaling relation, and that the polar angular distribution of emitted pion momenta is very narrow and can be easily obtained. This scaling implies that one can infer the decay width in more realistic magnetic fields of $10^{15}$G, where $n_{i,f} \sim 10^{12} - 10^{13}$, from the results for $n_{i,f} \sim 10^4 - 10^5$. The resultant pion intensity and angular distributions for realistic magnetic field strengths are presented and their physical implications discussed.

The modified gravity is considered to be one of possible explanations of the accelerated expansions of the present and the early universe. We study effects of the modified gravity on big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). If effects of the modified gravity are significant during the BBN epoch, they should be observed as changes of primordial light element abundances. We assume a $f(G)$ term with the Gauss-Bonnet term $G$, during the BBN epoch. A power-law relation of $df/dG \propto t^p$ where $t$ is the cosmic time was assumed for the function $f(G)$ as an example case. We solve time evolutions of physical variables during BBN in the $f(G)$ gravity model numerically, and analyzed calculated results. It is found that a proper solution for the cosmic expansion rate can be lost in some parameter region. In addition, we show that calculated results of primordial light element abundances can be significantly different from observational data. Especially, observational limits on primordial D abundance leads to the strongest constraint on the $f(G)$ gravity. We then derive constraints on parameters of the $f(G)$ gravity taking into account the existence of the solution of expansion rate and final light element abundances.

Relevant coupling constants are determined to reproduce the experimental data of nuclear matter and hypernuclei in SU(3) flavor symmetry. For quark matter, we employ the MIT bag model with one-gluon-exchange interaction, and Gibbs criteria for chemical equilibrium in the phase transition from hadrons to quarks. We find that the strange vector ($φ$) meson and the Fock contribution make the hadronic EoS stiff, and that the maximum mass of a neutron star can be consistent with the observed mass of heavy neutron stars even if the coexistence of hadrons and quarks takes place in the core. However, in the present calculation the transition to pure quark matter does not occur in stable neutron stars. Furthermore, the lower bound of the critical chemical potential of the quark-hadron transition at zero temperature turns out to be around 1.5 GeV in order to be consistent with the recent observed neutron star data.

The $^7$Li abundance calculated in BBN with the baryon-to-photon ratio fixed from fits to the CMB power spectrum is inconsistent with the observed lithium abundances on the surface of metal-poor halo stars. Previous cosmological solutions proposed to resolve this $^7$Li problem include photon cooling (possibly via the Bose-Einstein condensation of a scalar particle) or the decay of a long-lived $X-$particle (possibly the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle). In this paper we reanalyze these solutions, both separately and in concert. We also introduce the possibility of a primordial magnetic field (PMF) into these models. We constrain the $X-$particles and the PMF parameters by the observed light element abundances using a likelihood analysis to show that the inclusion of all three possibilities leads to an optimum solution to the lithium problem. We deduce allowed ranges for the $X-$particle parameters and energy density in the PMF that can solve $^7$Li problem.

The injections of energetic hadrons could have occurred in the early universe by decays of hypothetical long-lived exotic particles. The injections induce the showers of nonthermal hadrons via nuclear scattering. Neutrons generated at these events can react with $^7$Be nuclei and reduce $^7$Be abundance solving a problem of the primordial $^7$Li abundance. We suggest that thermal neutron injection is a way to derive a model independent conservative limit on the relation between abundances of D and $^7$Li in a hadronic energy injection model. We emphasize that an uncertainty in cross sections of inelastic $n+p$ scattering affects the total number of induced neutrons, which determines final abundances of D and $^7$Li. In addition, the annihilations of antinucleons with $^4$He result in higher D abundance and trigger nonthermal $^6$Li production. It is concluded that a reduction of $^7$Li abundance from a value in the standard big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) model down to an observational two $σ$ upper limit is necessarily accompanied by an undesirable increase of D abundance up to at least an observational 12 $σ$ upper limit from observations of quasi-stellar object absorption line systems. The effects of antinucleons and secondary particles produced in the hadronic showers always lead to a severer constraint. The BBN models involving any injections of extra neutrons are thus unlikely to reproduce a small $^7$Li abundance consistent with observations.

We extensively reanalyze effects of a long-lived negatively charged massive particle, X-, on big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). The BBN model with an X- particle was originally motivated by the discrepancy between 6,7Li abundances predicted in standard BBN model and those inferred from observations of metal-poor stars. In this model 7Be is destroyed via the recombination with an X- particle followed by radiative proton capture. We calculate precise rates for the radiative recombinations of 7Be, 7Li, 9Be, and 4He with X-. In nonresonant rates we take into account respective partial waves of scattering states and respective bound states. The finite sizes of nuclear charge distributions cause deviations in wave functions from those of point-charge nuclei. For a heavy X- mass, m_X \gtrsim 100 GeV, the d-wave --> 2P transition is most important for 7Li and 7,9Be, unlike recombination with electrons. Our new nonresonant rate of the 7Be recombination for m_X=1000 GeV is more than 6 times larger than the existing rate. Moreover, we suggest a new important reaction for 9Be production: the recombination of 7Li and X- followed by deuteron capture. We derive binding energies of X-nuclei along with reaction rates and Q-values. We then calculate BBN and find that the amount of 7Be destruction depends significantly on the charge distribution of 7Be. Finally, updated constraints on the initial abundance and the lifetime of the X- are derived in the context of revised upper limits to the primordial 6Li abundance. Parameter regions for the solution to the 7Li problem are revised, and the primordial 9Be abundances is revised.

The existence of an exotic long-lived negatively charged massive particle, i.e., X-, during big bang nucleosynthesis can affect primordial light element abundances. Especially, the final abundance of 7Li, mainly originating from the electron capture of 7Be, has been suggested to reduce by the 7Be destruction via the radiative X- capture of 7Be followed by the radiative proton capture of the bound state of 7Be and X- (7BeX). We suggest a new route of 7BeX formation, that is the 7Be charge exchange at the reaction of 7Be3+ ion and X-. The formation rate depends on the number fraction of 7Be3+ ion, the charge exchange cross section of 7Be3+, and the probability that produced excited states 7BeX* are converted to the ground state. We estimate respective quantities affecting the 7BeX formation rate, and find that this reaction pathway can be more important than ordinary radiative recombination of 7Be and X-. The effect of the charge exchange reaction is then shown in a latest nuclear reaction network calculation. Quantum physical model calculations for related reactions are needed to precisely estimate the efficiency of this pathway in future.

In determining the couplings of the isoscalar, vector mesons to the octet baryons, we examine the extension of SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry to SU(3) flavor symmetry. Furthermore, we consider the strange ($σ^{\ast}$ and $φ$) mesons, and study how they affect the equation of state. We find that the equation of state in SU(3) symmetry can sustain a neutron star with mass of $(1.8 \sim 2.1) M_{\odot}$ even if hyperons exist inside the core. In addition, the strange vector ($φ$) meson and the variation of baryon structure in matter also play important roles in supporting a massive neutron star.

We investigate the effect of a strong magnetic field on the structure of neutron stars in a model with perturbative $f(R)$ gravity. The effect of an interior strong magnetic field of about $10^{17 \sim 18}$ G on the equation of state is derived in the context of a quantum hadrodynamics (QHD) model. We solve the modified spherically symmetric hydrostatic equilibrium equations derived for a gravity model with $f(R)=R+αR^2$. Effects of both the finite magnetic field and the modified gravity are detailed for various values of the magnetic field and the perturbation parameter $α$ along with a discussion of their physical implications. We show that there exists a parameter space of the modified gravity and the magnetic field strength, in which even a soft equation of state can accommodate a large ($> 2$ M$_\odot$) maximum neutron star mass through the modified mass-radius relation.

We investigate effects of the density-dependent axial and weak-vector form factors on the electro-neutrino ($ν_e$) and anti-electro-neutrino $({\bar ν_e})$ reactions via neutral current (NC) for a nucleon in nuclear medium or $^{12}$C. For the density-dependent form factors, we exploit the quark-meson-coupling (QMC) model, and apply them to the $ν_e$ and ${\bar ν_e}$ induced reactions by NC. About 12% decrease of the total cross section by $ν_e$ reaction on the nucleon is obtained at normal density, $ρ= ρ_0 \sim 0.15 {fm}^{-3} $, as well as about 18% reduction of total $ν_e$ cross section on $^{12}$C, by the modification of the weak form factors of the bound nucleon.
However, similarly to the charged current reaction, effects of the nucleon property change in the ${\bar ν}_e$ reaction reduce significantly the cross sections about 30% for the nucleon in matter and $^{12}$C cases. Such a large asymmetry in the ${\bar ν}_e$ cross sections is addressed to originate from the different helicities of ${\bar ν}_e$ and $ν_e$.

We summarize several new developments in the nuclear equation of state for supernova simulations and neutron stars. We discuss an updated and improved Notre-Dame-Livermore Equation of State (NDL EoS) for use in supernovae simulations. This Eos contains many updates. Among them are the effects of 3- body nuclear forces at high densities and the possible transition to a QCD chiral and/or super-conducting color phase at densities. We also consider the neutron star equation of state and neutrino transport in the presence of strong magnetic fields. We study a new quantum hadrodynamic (QHD) equation of state for neutron stars (with and without hyperons) in the presence of strong magnetic fields. The parameters are constrained by deduced masses and radii. The calculated adiabatic index for these magnetized neutron stars exhibit rapid changes with density. This may provide a mechanism for star-quakes and flares in magnetars. We also investigate the strong magnetic field effects on the moments of inertia and spin down of neutron stars. The change of the moment of inertia associated with emitted magnetic flares is shown to match well with observed glitches in some magnetars. We also discuss a perturbative calculation of neutrino scattering and absorption in hot and dense hyperonic neutron-star matter in the presence of a strong magnetic field. The absorption cross-sections show a remarkable angular dependence in that the neutrino absorption strength is reduced in a direction parallel to the magnetic field and enhanced in the opposite direction. The pulsar kick velocities associated with this asymmetry comparable to observed pulsar velocities and may affect the early spin down rate of proto-neutron star magnetars with a toroidal field configuration.

We study the effect of the density-dependent axial and vector form factors on the electro-neutrino ($ν_e$) and anti-neutrino $({\bar ν}_e)$ reactions for a nucleon in nuclear matter or in $^{12}$C. The nucleon form factors in free space are presumed to be modified for a bound nucleon in a nuclear medium. We adopt the density-dependent form factors calculated by the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model, and apply them to the $ν_e$ and ${\bar ν}_e$ induced reactions with the initial energy $E = $ 8 $\sim$ 80 MeV. We find that the total $ν_e$ cross sections on $^{12}$C as well as a nucleon in nuclear matter are reduced by about 5% at the nuclear saturation density, $ρ_0$. This reduction is caused by the modification of the nucleon structure in matter. Although the density effect for both cases is relatively small, it is comparable with the effect of Coulomb distortion on the outgoing lepton in the $ν$-reaction. In contrast, the density effect on the ${\bar ν}_e$ reaction reduces the cross section significantly in both nuclear matter and $^{12}$C cases, and the amount maximally becomes of about 35% around $ρ_0$. Such large asymmetry in the $ν_e$ and ${\bar ν}_e$ cross sections, which seems to be nearly independent of the target, is originated from the difference in the helicities of ${\bar ν}_e$ and $ν_e$. It is expected that the asymmetry influences the r-process and also the neutrino-process nucleosynthesis in core-collapse supernovae.

We calculate the spin deceleration of proto-neutron stars by asymmetric neutrino absorption in the context of a fully relativistic mean field theory. We calculate for the first time the spin deceleration of neutron stars due to asymmetric neutrino absorption in a toroidal magnetic field configurations. We find a surprising effect that the deceleration can much larger for asymmetric neutrino absorption in a toroidal magnetic field than the usually presumed braking due to magnetic dipole radiation. This may explain the observation that magnetars appear to have had a more rapid deceleration in the past.

Moreover, in some nuclei, the stronger GT peaks than any other peaks appear explicitly in the high-lying excited states. We address that these high-lying GT excited states stems from the smearing of the Fermi surface by the increase of the chemical potential owing to the deformation within a framework of the deformed quasi-particle random phase approximation (DQRPA). Detailed mechanism leading to the smearing is discussed, and comparisons to the available experimental data are shown to explain the strong peaks on the high-lying GT excited states in a satisfactory manner.

We reinvestigate the constraints from primordial nucleosynthesis on a possible time-dependent quark mass. The limits on such quark-mass variations are particularly sensitive to the adopted observational abundance constraints. Hence, in the present study we have considered updated light-element abundances and uncertainties deduced from observations. We also consider new nuclear reaction rates and an independent analysis of the influence of such quark-mass variations on the resonance properties of the important 3He(d,p)4He reaction. We find that the updated abundance and resonance constraints imply a narrower range on the possible quark-mass variations in the early universe. We also find that, contrary to previous investigations, the optimum concordance region reduces to a (95% C.L.) value of -0.005 < delta m_q/m_q < 0.007 consistent with no variation in the averaged quark mass.

We developed the quasi-particle random phase approximation (QRPA) for the neutrino scattering off even-even nuclei via neutral current (NC) and charged cur- rent (CC). The QRPA has been successfully applied for the βand ββdecay of relevant nuclei. To describe neutrino scattering, general multipole transitions by weak interactions with a finite momentum transfer are calculated for NC and CC reaction with detailed formalism. Since we consider neutron-proton (np) pairing as well as neutron-neutron (nn) and proton-proton (pp) pairing correlations, the nn + pp QRPA and np QRPA are combined in a framework, which enables to describe both NC and CC reactions in a consistent way.
