The heavy fermion material UTe$_2$ possesses a rich phase diagram with multiple superconducting phases, several of which exhibit characteristics of odd-parity pairing. Here, we report on the pressure dependence of signatures of the superconducting transition in the temperature dependent ac magnetic susceptibility $χ(T)$ in high quality UTe$_2$ single crystals. We resolve a single superconducting transition in $χ(T)$ at low pressures $<$ 0.3 GPa. At higher pressure, however, a second feature emerges in $χ(T)$, which is located at the thermodynamic phase boundary between two separate superconducting states previously identified by specific heat studies. The observation of a two-step transition in $χ(T)$ can be understood as a consequence of the change in the London penetration depth, when UTe$_2$ switches from one superconducting phase into another.

We present the observation of an isostructural Mott insulator-metal transition in van-der-Waals honeycomb antiferromagnet V$_{0.9}$PS$_3$ through high-pressure x-ray diffraction and transport measurements. The MPX$_3$ family of magnetic van-der-Waals materials (M denotes a first row transition metal and X either S or Se) are currently the subject of broad and intense attention, but the vanadium compounds have until this point not been studied beyond their basic properties. We observe insulating variable-range-hopping type resistivity in V$_{0.9}$PS$_3$, with a gradual increase in effective dimensionality with increasing pressure, followed by a transition to a metallic resistivity temperature dependence between 112 and 124 kbar. The metallic state additionally shows a low-temperature upturn we tentatively attribute to the Kondo Effect. A gradual structural distortion is seen between 26-80 kbar, but no structural change at higher pressures corresponding to the insulator-metal transition. We conclude that the insulator-metal transition occurs in the absence of any distortions to the lattice - an isostructural Mott transition in a new class of two-dimensional material, and in strong contrast to the behavior of the other MPX$_3$ compounds.

Layered transition metal dichalcogenide WTe$_2$ has recently attracted significant attention due to the discovery of an extremely large magnetoresistance, a predicted type-II Weyl semimetallic state, and the pressure-induced superconducting state. By a careful measurement of the superconducting upper critical fields as a function of the magnetic field angle at a pressure as high as 98.5 kbar, we provide the first detailed examination of the dimensionality of the superconducting condensate in WTe$_2$. Despite the layered crystal structure, the upper critical field exhibits a negligible field anisotropy. The angular dependence of the upper critical field can be satisfactorily described by the anisotropic mass model from 2.2 K ($T/T_c\sim0.67$) to 0.03 K ($T/T_c\sim0.01$), with a practically identical anisotropy factor $γ\sim1.7$. The temperature dependence of the upper critical field, determined for both $H\perp ab$ and $H\parallel ab$, can be understood by a conventional orbital depairing mechanism. Comparison of the upper critical fields along the two orthogonal field directions results in the same value of $γ\sim1.7$, leading to a temperature independent anisotropy factor from near $T_c$ to $<0.01T_c$. Our findings thus identify WTe$_2$ as a nearly isotropic superconductor, with an anisotropy factor among one of the lowest known in superconducting transition metal dichalcogenides.

These results point to the nontrivial role of S substitution and its subtle interplay with applied pressure, as well as novel superconducting properties of the TlNi$_2$Se$_{2-x}$S$_x$ system.

We compare our observations to band structure calculations within the local spin density approximation, and conclude that some features of the spectrum are a result of non-linear spin splitting effects.

We argue that the superlattice distortion is associated with a charge density wave transition of the conduction electron system and demonstrate that the superlattice transition temperature T* can be suppressed to zero by combining chemical and physical pressure. This enables the first comprehensive investigation of a superlattice quantum phase transition and its interplay with superconductivity in a cubic charge density wave system.

These measurements allow us to follow the evolution of the superconducting critical temperature T_c, the resistivity anomaly temperature T*, the superconducting coherence length and the Fermi velocity under pressure. The pressure-temperature phase diagram constructed for Ca_{3}Ir_{4}Sn_{13} shows a dome-shaped pressure dependence of T_c. The initial rise in T_c, which is accompanied by a decrease in T*, is consistent with a reduction in the partial gapping of the Fermi surface under pressure.

Low temperature ac magnetic susceptibility measurements of the coexistent antiferromagnetic superconductor YbPd2Sn have been made in hydrostatic pressures < 74 kbar in moissanite anvil cells. The superconducting transition temperature is forced to T(SC) = 0 K at a pressure of 58 kbar. The initial suppression of the superconducting transition temperature is corroborated by lower hydrostatic pressure (p < 16 kbar) four point resisitivity measurements, made in a piston cylinder pressure cell. At ambient pressure, in a modest magnetic field of ~ 500 G, this compound displays reentrant superconducting behaviour. This reentrant superconductivity is suppressed to lower temperature and lower magnetic field as pressure is increased. The antiferromagnetic ordering temperature, which was measured at T(N) = 0.12 K at ambient pressure is enhanced, to reach T(N) = 0.58 K at p = 74 kbar. The reasons for the coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism is discussed in the light of these and previous findings. Also considered is why superconductivity on the border of long range magnetic order is so much rarer in Yb compounds than in Ce compounds. The presence of a new transition visible by ac magnetic susceptibility under pressure and in magnetic fields greater than 1.5 kG is suggested.
