Two-dimensional iron-chalcogenide intercalates display a remarkable correlation of the interlayer spacing with the enhancement of the superconducting critical temperature ($T_c$). In this work, synchrotron x-ray absorption ($XAS$, at Fe and Se K edges) and emission ($XES$) spectroscopies, allow to discuss how the important rise of $T_c$ (44 K) in the molecule intercalated $\rm Li_x(C_5H_5N)_yFe_{2-z}Se_2$ relates to the electronic and local structure changes felt by the inorganic host upon doping ($x$). $XES$ shows that widely-separated layers of edge-sharing $\rm FeSe_4$ tetrahedra, carry low-spin moieties with a local Fe magnetic moment slightly reduced compared to the parent $β$-$\rm Fe_{2-z}Se_2$. Pre-edge $XAS$ advises on the progressively reduced mixing of metal $3d-4p$ states upon lithiation. Doping-mediated local lattice modifications, probed by conventional $T_c$-optimization measures (cf. anion height and $FeSe_4$ tetrahedra regularity), become less relevant when layers are spaced far away. On the basis of extended x-ray absorption fine structure, such distortions are compensated by a softer Fe-network that relates to Fe-site vacancies, alleviating electron-lattice correlations and superconductivity. Density functional theory ($DFT$) guided modification of isolated $\rm Fe_{2-z}Se_2$ ($z$, vacant sites) planes, resembling the host layers, identify that Fe-site deficiency occurs at low energy cost, giving rise to stretched Fe-sheets, in accord with experiments. The robust high-$T_c$ in $\rm Li_x(C_5H_5N)_yFe_{2-z}Se_2$, arises from the interplay of electron donating spacers and the iron-selenide layers tolerance to defect chemistry, a tool to favorably tune its Fermi surface properties.

A time-resolved synchrotron X-ray total scattering study sheds light on the evolution of the different structural length scales involved during the intercalation of the layered iron-selenide host by organic molecular donors, aiming at the formation of the expanded lattice $Li_x(C_5H_5N)_yFe_{2-z}Se_2$ hybrid superconductor. The intercalates are found to crystallize in the tetragonal $ThCr_2Si_2$-type structure at the average level, however, with an enhanced interlayer iron-selenide spacing (d= 16.2 Å) that accommodates the heterocyclic molecular spacers. Quantitative atomic pair distribution function (PDF) analysis at variable times, suggests distorted $FeSe_4$ tetrahedral local environments that appear swollen with respect to those in the parent $β$-FeSe. Simultaneously acquired, in-situ synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data disclose that secondary phases ($α$-Fe and $Li_2Se$), grow significantly when higher Li-concentration is used in the solvothermal reaction or when the solution is aged. These observations are in line with the strongly reducing character of the intercalation medium's solvated electrons that mediate the defect chemistry of the expanded lattice superconductor. In the latter, intralayer correlated local distortions indicate electron donating aspects that reflect in somewhat enlarged Fe-Se bonds. They also reveal a degree of relief of chemical pressure associated with a large distance between Fe and Se sheets ('taller' anion height) and a stretched Fe-Fe square planar topology. The elongation of the latter, derived from the in-situ PDF study, speaks for a plausible increase in the Fe-site vacancy concentration. The evolution of the local structural parameters suggests an optimum reaction window where kinetically stabilized phases resemble the distortions of the edge-sharing Fe-Se tetrahedra, required for high-$T_c$ in expanded lattice iron-chalcogenides.

Application of high pressure (HP) induces evolution from metallic to semi-metallic state in the layered superconducting LaO1-xFxBiSe2 phase, as concluded from ab initio calculations based on experimental P-dependent structural data. These changes in conduction properties are associated with a reported decrease in the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. However, further increase in pressure induces structural transformation in LaO1-xFxBiSe2 which results in a strong enhancement of its two-dimensionality with a related improvement in superconducting performance. In addition, the HP structural anisotropy induces a loss of long-range order correlations along the stacking direction of the LaO/F and BiSe2 layers yielding formation of stacking faults. Similar but even more pronounced structural transition was observed in the related LaO1-xFxBiS2 phase which is also accompanied by an increase in Tc. This demonstrates that enhancement of two-dimensionality in layered superconducting systems acts in favor of their superconducting performance.

BaFe2Se3 is a potential superconductor material exhibiting transition at 11 K and ambient pressure. Here we extended the structural and performed electrical resistivity measurements on this compound up to 51 GPa and 20 GPa, respectively, in order to distinguish if the superconductivity in this sample is intrinsic to the BaFe2Se3 phase or if it is originating from minor FeSe impurities that show a similar superconductive transition temperature. The electrical resistance measurements as a function of pressure show that at 5 GPa the superconducting transition is observed at around 10 K, similar to the one previously observed for this sample at ambient pressure. This indicates that the superconductivity in this sample is intrinsic to the BaFe2Se3 phase and not to FeSe with Tc > 20 K at these pressures. Further increase in pressure suppressed the superconductive signal and the sample remained in an insulating state up to the maximum achieved pressure of 20 GPa. Single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction measurements revealed two structural transformations in BaFe2Se3: a second order transition above 3.5 GPa from Pnma (CsAg2I3-type structure) to Cmcm (CsCu2Cl3-type structure) and a first order transformation at 16.6 GPa. Here, γ-BaFe2Se3 transforms into δ-BaFe2Se3 (Cmcm, CsCu2Cl3-type average structure) via a first order phase transition mechanism. This transitions is characterized by a significant shortening of the b lattice parameter of γ-BaFe2Se3 (17%) and accompanied by an anisotropic expansion in the orthogonal ac plane at the transition point.

The HP CsxFe2-ySe2 polymorph is found to be less crystalline and nearly twice as soft compared to the parent major and minor phases of CsxFe2-ySe2. It can be quenched to low pressures and is stable at least on the scale of weeks. We report on the magnetic properties of CsCo$_2$Se$_2$ with ThCr$_2$Si$_2$ structure, which we have characterized through a series of magnetization and neutron diffraction measurements. We find that CsCo$_2$Se2$_2$ undergoes a phase transition to an antiferromagnetically ordered state with a Néel temperature of $T_{\rm N} \approx$ 66 K. The nearest neighbour interactions are ferromagnetic as observed by the positive Curie-Weiss temperature of $Θ\approx$ 51.0 K. We find that the magnetic structure of CsCo$_2$Se$_2$ consists of ferromagnetic sheets, which are stacked antiferromagnetically along the tetragonal \textit{c}-axis, generally referred to as A-type antiferromagnetic order. The observed magnitude of the ordered magnetic moment at $T$ = 1.5 K is found to be only 0.20(1)$μ_{\rm Bohr}$/Co. Already in comparably small magnetic fields of $μ_0 H_{MM}$(5K) $\approx$ 0.3 T, we observe a metamagnetic transition that can be attributed to spin-rearrangements of CsCo$_2$Se$_2$, with the moments fully ferromagnetically saturated in a magnetic field of $μ_0 H_{\rm FM}$(5K) $\approx$ 6.4 T. We discuss the entire experimentally deduced magnetic phase diagram for CsCo$_2$Se$_2$ with respect to its unconventionally weak magnetic coupling. Our study characterizes CsCo$_2$Se$_2$, which is chemically and electronically posed closely to the $A_xFe_{2-y}Se_2$ superconductors, as a host of versatile magnetic interactions.

Multi-component spectra are obtained. One can see a non-magnetic component due to iron located in the unperturbed Fe-Se sheets responsible for superconductivity. Remaining components are magnetically ordered even at room temperature. There is some magnetically ordered iron in Fe-Se sheets perturbed by presence of the iron vacancies. Additionally, one can see iron dispersed between sheets in the form of magnetically ordered high spin trivalent ions, some clusters of above ions, and in the case of pyridine intercalated compound in the form of alpha-Fe precipitates. Pyridine intercalated sample shows traces of superconductivity in the as-prepared state, while cesium intercalated sample in the as-prepared state does not show any superconductivity. Superconductors with transition temperatures being 40 K and 25 K, respectively, are obtained upon annealing. Annealing leads to removal/ordering of the iron vacancies within Fe-Se sheets, while clusters of alpha-Fe grow in the pyridine intercalated sample.

Single crystal neutron diffraction is combined with synchrotron x-ray scattering to identify the different superlattice phases present in $Cs_{0.8}Fe_{1.6}Se_2$. A combination of single crystal refinements and first principles modelling are used to provide structural solutions for the $\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5}$ and $\sqrt{2}\times\sqrt{2}$ superlattice phases. The $\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5}$ superlattice structure is predominantly composed of ordered Fe vacancies and Fe distortions, whereas the $\sqrt{2}\times\sqrt{2}$ superlattice is composed of ordered Cs vacancies. The Cs vacancies only order within the plane, causing Bragg rods in reciprocal space. By mapping x-ray diffraction measurements with narrow spatial resolution over the surface of the sample, the structural domain pattern was determined, consistent with the notion of a majority antiferromagnetic $\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5}$ phase and a superconducting $\sqrt{2}\times\sqrt{2}$ phase.

The compound BaFe2Se3 (Pnma) has been synthesized in the form of single crystals with the average composition Ba0.992Fe1.998Se3. The Moessbauer spectroscopy used for investigation of the valence states of Fe in this compound at temperature ranging from 4.2 K till room temperature revealed the occurrence of mixed-valence state for iron. The spectrum is characterized by sharply defined electric quadrupole doublet above magnetic ordering at about 250 K. For the magnetically ordered state one sees four iron sites at least and each of them is described by separate axially symmetric electric field gradient tensor with the principal component making some angle with the hyperfine magnetic field. They form two groups occurring in equal abundances. It is likely that each group belongs to separate spin ladder with various tilts of the FeSe4 tetrahedral units along the ladder. Two impurity phases are found, i.e., superconducting FeSe and some other unidentified iron-bearing phase being magnetically disordered above 80 K. Powder form of BaFe2Se3 is unstable in contact with the air and decomposes slowly to this unidentified phase exhibiting almost the same quadrupole doublet as BaFe2Se3 above magnetic transition temperature.

The Fe(1+x)Sb compound has been synthesized close to stoichiometry with x = 0.023(8). The compound was investigated by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy in the temperature range 4.2 - 300 K. The antiferromagnetic ordering temperature was found as 232 K i.e. much higher than for the less stoichiometric material. Regular iron was found to occupy two different positions in proportion 2:1. They differ by the electric quadrupole coupling constants and both of them exhibit extremely anisotropic electric field gradient tensor (EFG) with the asymmetry parameter equal one. The negative component of both EFGs is aligned with the c-axis of the hexagonal unit cell, while the positive component is aligned with the <120> direction. Hence, a model describing deviation from the NiAs P63/mmc symmetry group within Fe-planes has been proposed. Spectra in the magnetically ordered state could be explained by introduction of the incommensurate spin spirals propagating through the iron atoms in the direction of the c-axis with a complex pattern of the hyperfine magnetic fields distributed within a-b plane. Hyperfine magnetic field pattern of spirals due to major regular iron is smoothed by the spin polarized itinerant electrons, while the minor regular iron exhibits hyperfine field pattern characteristic of the highly covalent bonds to the adjacent antimony atoms. The excess interstitial iron orders magnetically at the same temperature as the regular iron, and magnetic moments of these atoms are likely to form two-dimensional spin glass with moments lying in the a-b plane. The upturn of the hyperfine field for minor regular iron and interstitial iron is observed below 80 K. Magneto-elastic effects are smaller than for FeAs, however the recoilless fraction increases significantly upon transition to the magnetically ordered state.

The superconducting and magnetic properties of phase-separated A$_x$Fe$_{2-y}$Se$_2$ compounds are known to depend on post-growth heat treatments and cooling profiles. This paper focusses on the evolution of microstructure on annealing, and how this influences the superconducting properties of Rb$_x$Fe$_2-y$Se$_2$ crystals. We find that the minority phase in the as-grown crystal has increased unit cell anisotropy (c/a ratio), reduced Rb content and increased Fe content compared to the matrix. The microstructure is rather complex, with two-phase mesoscopic plate-shaped features aligned along {113} habit planes. The minority phase are strongly facetted on the {113} planes, which we have shown to be driven by minimising the volume strain energy introduced as a result of the phase transformation. Annealing at 488K results in coarsening of the mesoscopic plate-shaped features and the formation of a third distinct phase. The subtle differences in structure and chemistry of the minority phase(s) in the crystals are thought to be responsible for changes in the superconducting transition temperature. In addition, scanning photoemission microscopy has clearly shown that the electronic structure of the minority phase has a higher occupied density of states of the low binding energy Fe3d orbitals, characteristic of crystals that exhibit superconductivity. This demonstrates a clear correlation between the Fe-vacancy-free phase with high c/a ratio and the electronic structure characteristics of the superconducting phase.

The main and secondary phases of Cs0.72Fe1.57Se2 have been observed in the whole pressure range. The main ordered phase has been found to undergo an order-disorder transition in the Fe-sublattice at least at P = 11 GPa with the corresponding kinetics on the order of hours. Contrary to the analogous temperature induced transition, the secondary phase has not been suppressed suggesting that its stability pressure range is higher than 19 GPa or the corresponding transformation kinetics is slower at room temperature. Together with the previously reported pressure-dependent resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements, this work indicates that superconductivity in the AxFe2-ySe2 (A - alkali metals) phases could be related to the Fe-vacancy ordering in the main phase.

The local structure and electronic properties of Rb$_{1-x}$Fe$_{2-y}$Se$_2$ are investigated by means of site selective polarized x-ray absorption spectroscopy at the iron and selenium K-edges as a function of pressure. A combination of dispersive geometry and novel nanodiamond anvil pressure-cell has permitted to reveal a step-like decrease in the Fe-Se bond distance at $p\simeq11$ GPa. The position of the Fe K-edge pre-peak, which is directly related to the position of the chemical potential, remains nearly constant until $\sim6$ GPa, followed by an increase until $p\simeq 11$ GPa. Here, as in the local structure, a step-like decrease of the chemical potential is seen. Thus, the present results provide compelling evidence that the origin of the reemerging superconductivity in $A_{1-x}$Fe$_{2-y}$Se$_2$ in vicinity of a quantum critical transition is caused mainly by the changes in the electronic structure.

Temperature-dependent synchrotron powder diffraction data indicate an evolution of the room-temperature BaFe2Se3 structure towards a high symmetry CsCu2Cl3 form upon heating. Around 425 K BaFe2Se3 undergoes a reversible, first order isostructural transition, that is supported by the differential scanning calorimetry data. The temperature-dependent structural changes occur in two stages, as determined by the alignment of the FeSe4 tetrahedra and corresponding adjustments of the positions of Ba atoms. On further heating, a second order phase transformation into the Cmcm structure is observed at 660 K. A rather unusual combination of isostructural and second-order phase transformations is parameterized within phenomenological theory assuming high-order expansion of Landau potential. A generic phase diagram mapping observed structures is proposed on the basis of the parameterization.

We report the low-temperature electronic and magnetic properties of the alkali metal-organic solvent intercalated iron selenide superconductor Lix(C5H5N)yFe2-zSe using muon-spin-spectroscopy measurements. The zero-field \muSR results indicate that nearly half of the sample is magnetically ordered and there is a spatial phase separation between the superconducting and the magnetic fraction. The transverse-field \muSR results show that the temperature dependence of the penetration depth λ(T) in the mixed state of Lix(C5H5N)yFe2-zSe can be explained using a two-gap s+s-wave model with gap values of 6.82(92) and 0.93(7) meV. This implies that the symmetry of the superconducting gap in this system remains unaltered to the parent compound FeSe even after the intercalation with the molecular spacer layer. We obtain λ(0) = 485(21) nm at T = 0 K.

An extended study of the superconducting and normal-state properties of various as-grown and post-annealed RbxFe2-ySe2 single crystals is presented. Magnetization experiments evidence that annealing of RbxFe2-ySe2 at 413 K, well below the onset of phase separation Tp=489 K, neither changes the magnetic nor the superconducting properties of the crystals. In addition, annealing at 563 K, well above Tp, suppresses the superconducting transition temperature Tc and leads to an increase of the antiferromagnetic susceptibility accompanied by the creation of ferromagnetic impurity phases, which are developing with annealing time. However, annealing at T=488K=Tp increases Tc up to 33.3 K, sharpens the superconducting transition, increases the lower critical field, and strengthens the screening efficiency of the applied magnetic field. Resistivity measurements of the as-grown and optimally annealed samples reveal an increase of the upper critical field along both crystallographic directions as well as its anisotropy. Muon spin rotation and scanning transmission electron microscopy experiments suggest the coexistence of two phases below Tp: a magnetic majority phase of Rb2Fe4Se5 and a non-magnetic minority phase of Rb0.5Fe2Se2. Both microscopic techniques indicate that annealing the specimens just at Tp does not affect the volume fraction of the two phases, although the magnetic field distribution in the samples changes substantially. This suggests that the microstructure of the sample, caused by mesoscopic phase separation, is modified by annealing just at Tp, leading to an improvement of the superconducting properties of RbxFe2-ySe2 and an enhancement of Tc.

We report neutron inelastic scattering measurements on the normal and superconducting states of single-crystalline Cs0.8Fe1.9Se2. Consistent with previous measurements on Rb(x)Fe(2-y)Se2, we observe two distinct spin excitation signals: (i) spin-wave excitations characteristic of the block antiferromagnetic order found in insulating A(x)Fe(2-y)Se2 compounds, and (ii) a resonance-like magnetic peak localized in energy at 11 meV and at an in-plane wave vector of (0.25, 0.5). The resonance peak increases below Tc = 27 K, and has a similar absolute intensity to the resonance peaks observed in other Fe-based superconductors. The existence of a magnetic resonance in the spectrum of Rb(x)Fe(2-y)Se2 and now of Cs(x)Fe(2-y)Se2 suggests that this is a common feature of superconductivity in this family. The low energy spin-wave excitations in Cs0.8Fe1.9Se2 show no measurable response to superconductivity, consistent with the notion of spatially separate magnetic and superconducting phases.

We report on a new iron selenide superconductor with a TC onset of 45K and the nominal composition Lix(C5H5N)yFe2-zSe2, synthesized via intercalation of dissolved alkaline metal in anhydrous pyridine at room temperature. This superconductor exhibits a broad transition, reaching zero resistance at 10K. Magnetization measurements reveal a superconducting shielding fraction of approximately 30%. Analogous phases intercalated with Na, K and Rb were also synthesized and characterized. The superconducting transition temperature of Lix(C5H5N)yFe2-zSe2 is clearly enhanced in comparison to the known superconductors FeSe0.98 (Tc ~ 8K) and AxFe2-ySe2 (TC ~ 27-32K) and is in close agreement with critical temperatures recently reported for Lix(NH3)yFe2-zSe2. Post-annealing of intercalated material (Lix(C5H5N)yFe2-zSe2) at elevated temperatures drastically enlarges the c-parameter of the unit cell (~44%) and increases the amount of superconducting shielding fraction to nearly 100%. Our findings indicate a new synthesis road leading to possibly even higher critical temperatures in this class of materials by intercalation of organic compounds between Fe-Se layers.

The interplay between superconductivity, magnetism and crystal structure in iron-based superconductors is a topic of great interest amongst the condensed matter physics community as it is thought to be the key to understanding the mechanisms responsible for high temperature superconductivity. Alkali metal doped iron chalcogenide superconductors exhibit several unique characteristics which are not found in other iron-based superconducting materials such as antiferromagnetic ordering at room temperature, the presence of ordered iron vacancies and high resistivity normal state properties. Detailed microstructural analysis is essential in order to understand the origin of these unusual properties. Here we have used a range of complementary scanning electron microscope based techniques, including high-resolution electron backscatter di raction mapping, to assess local variations in composition and lattice parameter with high precision and sub-micron spatial resolution. Phase separation is observed in the Csx Fe2-ySe2 crystals, with the minor phase distributed in a plate-like morphology throughout the crystal. Our results are consistent with superconductivity occurring only in the minority phase.

The crystal and magnetic structures of the superconducting iron based chalcogenides RbyFe2-xSe2 have been studied by means of single crystal synchrotron x-ray and high resolution neutron powder diffraction in the temperature range 2-570 K. The ground state of the crystal is an intrinsically phase separated state with two distinct by symmetry phases. The main phase has the iron vacancy ordered \surd5x\surd5 superstructure (I4/m space group) with AFM ordered Fe spins. The minority phase does not have \surd5x\surd5-type of ordering and has smaller in plane lattice constant a and larger tetragonal c-axis and can be well described assuming the parent average vacancy disordered structure (I4/mmm space group) with the refined stoichiometry Rb0.60(5)(Fe1.10(5))Se)2. The minority phase amounts to 8-10% mass fraction. The unit cell volume of the minority phase is 3.2% smaller than the one of the main phase at T = 2 K and has quite different temperature dependence. The minority phase transforms to the main vacancy ordered phase on heating above the phase separation temperature T_P = 475 K. The spatial dimensions of the phase domains strongly increase above TP from 1000 Å to > 2500 Å due to the merging of the regions of the main phase that were separated by the second phase at low temperatures. Additional annealing of the crystals at the temperature T=488 K close to T_P for the long time drastically reduces the amount of the minority phase.

Recently discovered A-Fe-Se (A - alkali metal) materials have questioned the most popular theories of iron-based superconductors because of their unusual electronic structure [1]. Controversial photoemission data taken in the superconducting state [2-7] are in conflict with highly magnetic state seen by neutron-, muSR-spectroscopies and transport/thermodynamic probes [8-10]. These results lead to suggestions to consider all iron-based materials as originating from Mott-insulators or semiconductors, thus once again raising the question of close relation between the cuprates and Fe-based superconductors [e.g. 2]. Here we study electronic and magnetic properties of Rb0.77Fe1.61Se2 (Tc = 32.6 K) in normal and superconducting states by means of photoemission and muSR spectroscopies as well as band structure calculations. We demonstrate that the puzzling behavior of these novel materials is the result of separation into metallic (~12%) and insulating (~ 88%) phases. Only the former becomes superconducting and has a usual electronic structure of electron-doped FeSe-slabs. Our results thus imply that the antiferromagnetic insulating phase is just a byproduct of Rb-intercalation and its magnetic properties have hardly any relation to the superconductivity. Instead, we find that also in this, already third class of iron-based compounds, the key ingredient for superconductivity is a certain proximity of a van Hove singularity to the Fermi level. These findings set the direction for effective search of new superconducting materials.

AxFe2-ySe2 (A=K, Rb, Cs) superconductors may show a complex mixture of structural phases even in a single crystal form. A full sphere of the diffraction intensity has been collected, with the help of synchrotron radiation, for Cs0.8Fe1.6Se2 . In addition to the expected pattern for the tetragonal phase with ordered Fe vacancies, a diffuse scattering from Cs occupational disorder has been observed, together with an extra Bragg contribution from a minor phase. The minor phase, in agreement with previous findings, is compressed in the tetragonal a-b plane and expanded along the c-direction; a set of modulated Bragg rods evidences a planar disorder. Fourfold splitting of the rods as well as the main Bragg peaks for L\neq0 imply that symmetry of the minor phase is not higher than monoclinic. The monoclinic distortion was estimated to be 90.7 degrees. Structured diffuse scattering, observed on top of the Bragg component, relates to the major phase and is attributed to a correlated distribution of Cs ions. Elastic nature of the observed scattering was confirmed by additional inelastic X-ray scattering experiment. Diffuse scattering forms 3D objects that have topological similarity with what one would expect, under assumptions discussed in the text, for a Fermi surface nesting.

At low temperatures, close to 90% of the sample volumes exhibit large-moment magnetic order which impedes the investigation of their superconducting properties by \muSR. On the other hand, about 10% of the sample volumes remain paramagnetic and clearly show a superconducting response. The temperature dependence of the superconducting carrier density was analyzed within the framework of a single s-wave gap scenario. The zero-temperature values of the in-plane magnetic penetration depths λ_{ab}(0) = 258(2) and 225(2) nm and the superconducting gaps Δ(0) = 7.7(2) and 6.3(2) meV have been determined for A = Rb and K, respectively. The microscopic coexistence and/or phase separation of superconductivity and magnetism is discussed.

Interestingly, the anisotropy is found to be temperature independent in the superconducting state, but strongly field dependent. This unusual anisotropic behavior, together with a large zero-temperature effective magnetic penetration depth is possibly related to a superconducting state heavily biased by the coexisting antiferromagnetic phase.

The crystals exhibit a transition to the diamagnetic state with an onset transition temperature of Tc ~11 K. Though we observe FeSe as an impurity phase (<0.8% mass fraction) the diamagnetism unlikely can be attributed to the FeSe-superconductor which has Tc\approx8.5K.

Assuming that the iron moment is ordered only on the fully occupied site we have sorted out all eight irreducible representations (irreps) for the propagation vector k=0 and have found that irreps tau_2 and tau_7 well fit the experimental data with the moments along c-axis. The moment amplitudes amounted to 2.15(3) mu_B, 2.55(3) mu_B for tau_2 and 2.08(6) mu_B, 2.57(3) mu_B for tau_7 for Rb- and K-crystals respectively. We report measurements of the temperature and pressure dependence of the electrical resistivity of single crystalline iron-based chalcogenide Cs0.8Fe2Se2. In this material superconductivity Tc~30K develops from a normal state with extremely large resistivity. At ambient pressure a large "hump" in the resistivity is observed around 200K. Under pressure, the resistivity decreases by two orders of magnitude, concomitant with a sudden Tc suppression around p~8GPa. Even at 9GPa a metallic resistivity state is not recovered, and the ρ(T) "hump" is still detected. A comparison of the data measured upon increasing and decreasing the external pressure leads us to suggest that superconductivity is not related to this hump.

The propagation vector star corresponds to the 5 times bigger unit cell given by transformation A=2a+b, B= -a+2b, C= c. A solution for the atomic structure is found in the space groups P42/n and I4/m with an ordered pattern of iron vacancies corresponding to the iron deficiency x = 0.29 and Cs stoichiometry y = 0.83. The superstructure satellites are more pronounced in the neutron diffraction patterns suggesting that they can have some magnetic contribution. We have sorted out possible symmetry adapted magnetic configurations and found that the presence of AFM ordering with the ordered magnetic moment of Fe with 2μB does not contradict to the experimental data. However, the solutions space is highly degenerate and we cannot choose a specific solution. Instead we propose possible magnetic configurations with the Fe magnetic moments in (ab)-plane or along c-axis. The superstructure is destroyed above Ts ~ 500 K by a first-order-like transition.

We report on the synthesis of large single crystals of a new FeSe-layer superconductor Cs0.8(FeSe0.98)2. X-ray powder diffraction, neutron powder-diffraction and magnetization measurements have been used to compare the crystal structure and the magnetic properties of Cs0.8(FeSe0.98)2 with those of the recently discovered potassium intercalated system KxFe2Se2. The new compound Cs0.8(FeSe0.98)2 shows a slightly lower superconducting transition temperature (Tc=27.4 K) in comparison to 29.5 in K0.8(FeSe0.98)2). The volume of the crystal unit cell increases by replacing K by Cs - the c-parameter grows from 14.1353(13) Å to 15.2846(11) Å. For the so far known alkali metal intercalated layered compounds (K0.8Fe2Se2 and Cs0.8(FeSe0.98)2) the Tc dependence on the anion height (distance between Fe-layers and Se-layers) was found to be analogous to those reported for As-containing Fe-superconductors and Fe(Se1-xChx), where Ch=Te, S.
