Time Dependence of Charged Dark Matter
Abstract: We investigate a model of the universe where dark energy is replaced by electrically-charged extremely-massive dark matter. This was originally described only for the present cosmological time. The time dependence of the charged dark matter is different from that for dark energy and in the future the expansion will no longer accelerate and the scale factor $a(t)$ will revert to a matter-dominated… ▽ More

A Model of Dark Matter and Energy
Abstract: We discuss a model of the universe where dark energy is replaced by electrically-charged extremely-massive dark matter. The cosmological constant has a value of the same order as the mean matter density, consistent with observations, and is obtained classically without fine-tuning.

Electromagnetic Accelerating Universe
Abstract: In recent work we have extended the theory that dark matter is composed of primordial black hole (PBHs) to extremely high masses and made an assumption that the holographic entropy bound is saturated. Astrophysicists have recently suggested that PBHs are formed with electric charges Q, retain their charges for the age of the universe, all charges have the same sign, and Q/M increases with mass M.… ▽ More

Predictions of Additional Baryons and Mesons
Abstract: We discuss the predictions of the bilepton model which is an extension of the standard model in which the group $SU(2) \times U(1)$ is changed to $SU(3)\times U(1)$ and the fermion families are treated non-sequentially with the third assigned differently from the first two. Cancellation of triangle anomalies and asymptotic freedom require three families. The predicted new physics includes bilepton… ▽ More

Memories of Steven Weinberg (1933-2021)
Abstract: Steven Weinberg, renowned particle theorist and Nobel laureate, passed away in July 2021. We discuss selections of his work on effective field theory, electroweak unification, and symmetry related topics. We then add a few memories of Weinberg at Harvard University then at the University of Texas, Austin.

Particle Theory at Chicago in Late Sixties and p-Adic Strings
Abstract: As a contribution requested by the editors of a Memorial Volume for Peter G.O. Freund (1936-2018), we recall the lively particle theory group at the Enrico Fermi Institute of the University of Chicago in the late sixties, of which Peter was a memorable member. We also discuss a period some twenty years later when our and Peter's research overlapped on the topic of p-adic strings.

On the Origin and Nature of Dark Matter
Abstract: It is discussed how the ideas of entropy and the second law of thermodynamics, conceived long ago during the nineteenth century, underly why cosmological dark matter exists and originated in the first three years of the universe in the form of primordial black holes, a very large number of which have many solar masses including up to the supermassive black holes at the centres of galaxies. Novel Approach to the Dark Matter Problem: Primordial Intermediate-Mass Black Holes
Abstract: A discussion at a Scientific American level of the idea that the constituents of the dark mater in galactic halos are primordial intermediate-mass black holes with masses between ten and one hundred thousand times the solar mass.

Pre-String Theory
Abstract: In this note, I recollect a two-week period in September 1968 when I factorized the Veneziano model using string variables in Chicago. Professor Yoichiro Nambu went on to calculate the N-particle dual resonance model and then to factorize it on an exponential degeneracy of states. That was in 1968 and the following year 1969 he discovered the string action. I also include some other reminiscences… ▽ More

Gravitation at Very Short Distances
Abstract: In this note, it is discussed why attempts to renormalize conventional quantum gravity may be based on a false presumption, because, according to Verlinde's entropic view of gravity, the gravitational force between two elementary particles vanishes.

Holographic Principle and the Surface of Last Scatter
Abstract: Using data, provided by WMAP7, I calculate the entropy of the visible universe, where visible refers to electromagnetic radiation, and hence the visible universe is bounded by the Surface of Last Scatter. The dimensionless entropy, $S/k$, is $(8.85 \pm 0.37)$ times larger than allowed by a simplified and non-covariant holographic principle, that the entropy cannot exceed that of a black hole. The… ▽ More
