What is impractical to theoretically determine is the frequency and financial implications of extreme events, for example, prolonged winning streaks coupled with various betting patterns. The simulation herein provides such granularity. We explore the effect of following the ‘hot hand’, that is, rapidly escalating bets when players are on a winning streak. To minimize their exposure, casino management sets a table bet maximum as well as a table differential. These figures can and do serve as a means to differentiate one casino from another. As the allowable bet maximum increases so does the total amount bet, which increases the theoretical winnings, thus suggesting that a high bet limit and differential is beneficial for the house. However, the greater are these amounts, the greater the number of shoes that end with players losing relative to a constant betting scenario (the number of times a pla...

Despite the dismantling of legislative barriers, cultural milieu of the various member nations will continue to be an obstacle toward true integration. This study clusters 17 European nations on Hofstede's (1980) cultural dimensions. Three distinct clusters emerge, each with its unique cultural composition. Scrutinizing the cultural make-up of each cluster offers the possibility of selecting an appropriate marketing mix across nations belonging to the same cluster.

Currently there is no coordinated scheme to rectify the housing situation; rather, a patchwork of "carrots and sticks" to encourage the development of affordable housing is being trialled. Experience economy, they contend, is the next economy following the agrarian economy, the industrial economy, and the most recent service economy. To survive in the new economy, businesses must provide customers with memorable customer experiences. Using the 2008 Democratic National Convention as the referent, and by means of a phenomenological approach, the authors deconstruct this landmark event to distil eight attributes that together constitute an unforgettable experience: planning, resourcing, targeting, anticipating, enabling, empathizing, framing, and engaging. They contend that commercial experience providers can substantially improve their product offering by incorporating each of these elements so as to create compelling customer experiences.

Most extant discourse on globalization, particularly in the business discipline, ignores the impact of globalization on the identity of those affected. One of the key characteristics of globalization is deterritorialization; the severance of social, political, and cultural practices from their native places. Deterritorialization potentially destabilizes people‘s identity. In response, individuals will undertake activities and behaviors which help them “reterritorialize” and restore their sense of identity. This phenomenon has interesting implications for researchers as well as practitioners.
