Narrow band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB), a therapeutic modality for psoriasis, affects the expression of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. Our aim was to evaluate RANTES mRNA expression in skin lesions of psoriasis before and after NB-UVB phototherapy. This study included 25 psoriatic patients who received 24 sessions of NB-UVB. Skin biopsies were taken before and after phototherapy for real time PCR evaluation of RANTES mRNA. The relative quantitation values (RQ) of RANTES mRNA expression was significantly reduced after treatment. A significant negative correlation was found between pre-treatment RQ RANTES mRNA expression and post-treatment PASI score. We found a significant negative correlation between dRQ RANTES mRNA expression (difference between RQ RANTES mRNA expression before and after phototherapy) and PASI score after ph...

Recent research suggests that certain antimicrobial peptides can also play a role in the body's natural defense against fungal infection. Aim of Study: The aim of this research is to look at the tissue expression of Cathelicidin mRNA in tinea versicolor and tinea circinata skin lesions to learn more about its function in fungal infection pathogenesis. Patients and Methods: Twenty patients with tinea versicolor, twenty with tinea circinata, and twenty controls participated in this case-control study. A punch skin biopsy was obtained from the patient's lesional and non-lesional skin, as well as the control's normal skin, for real time PCR (RT-PCR) gene expression of cathelicidin mRNA. Results: Cathelicidin was upregulated in lesional areas of tinea versicolor and tinea circinata in comparison to non lesional areas of tinea versicolor,...

Each disease has its own characteristic scale features that are distinguished from other scaly disorders. Specimens from 20 patients with different scaly scalp conditions were randomly taken and examined by both SEM and TEM. Each scaly scalp disorder expressed its characteristic SEM and TEM findings. These findings may pave the way for further understanding of the differences between scaly scalp disorders that may look alike or slightly different in their clinical presentation. Recent research suggests that certain antimicrobial peptides can also play a role in the body's natural defense against fungal infection. Aim of Study: The purpose of the current research would be to investigate the tissue expression of β 2-defensin mRNA in lesions of tinea versicolor and lesions of tinea circinata and hence studying its role in fungal infection pathogenesis. Patients and Methods: Twenty patients with tinea versicolor, twenty with tinea circinata, and twenty controls were included in this case control study. In the surgical one, the Biofibre® hair implantation system represents an important innovation with artificial hair with special physical, chemical, and mechanical features and the new Biofibre® Automatic device. Implant on 1,518 patients has been reported in this study where the Biofibre® hair implant technique is performed on men and women with varying degrees of baldness and for the treatment of various causes of alopecia such as androgenetic alopecia, burns, and scars. According to our experience, this technique gives immediate and visible results without scarring or hospitalization and the aesthetic results are very encouraging for both male and female patients with a rapid recovery of self‐esteem and psychological well‐being.

As onychomycosis in diabetics has more serious complications, early detection of such infection could be helpful to prevent them. We aim in this study to assess the possibility of detecting subclinical onychomycosis in type II diabetic patients and addressing possible associated neuropathy. A cross sectional, observational study included patients with type II diabetes with normal big toe nail. All were subjected to nail clipping of the big toe nail, followed by staining with Hematoxylin and Eosin and Periodic-Acid-Schiff (PAS) stains and examined microscopically. A total of 106 patients were included, fungal infection was identified in eight specimens, all were uncontrolled diabetes, and six had neuropathy. Using the nail clipping and microscopic examination with PAS stain to detect such subclinical infection could be an applicable screening test for diabetic patients, for early detection and management of onychomycosis.
