The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), Agence Française de Dévelop- pement (AFD), Global ... more The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), Agence Française de Dévelop- pement (AFD), Global Development Network (GDN), Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), University of Nantes, École française d’Extrême-Orient (ÉFEO) and Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) have decided to give their support to the Regional Social Sciences Summer University, referred to as ”Tam Đảo Days”, in the framework of partnership agreement. This partnership has the objectives of developing a multi-disciplinary training of excellence, creating a platform for debate, and attracting a wide academic and non-acade- mic audience from across Southeast Asia.
This work contains a verbatim account of the presentations and debates from the plenary sessions and workshops that took place from 17th to 29th July 2015 at the University Duy Tân (Đà Nẵng) on the topic of ”Shared Challenges for Development within ASEAN”. Four main areas of reflection are prioritised in the framework of the thematic workshops: (i) Economic, Financial and Logistical Integration in ASEAN; (ii) Epidemiological Risks and Integration of Health Poli- cies on a Regional Scale: Modelling to Make Better Decisions; (iii) Development Corridors in ASEAN; (iv) Cities and Climate.

Vietnam's economy mainly depends on the growth of agricultural production. The forecasting yields... more Vietnam's economy mainly depends on the growth of agricultural production. The forecasting yields to consolidate information to assure food security, monitoring, and mapping rice accurately are essential. The study is aimed to (i) delineate the rice distribution status; (ii) simulate the rice yield by using the AQUACROP model; (iii) integrate maps and rice yield to delineate the rice production extent in Soc Trang province. The method involves combining MODIS remote sensing data (MOD13Q1, MOD13A1 at 250m resolution, eight-day intervals) with the AQUACROP rice yield prediction results at 9 study sites within the area. The study delineated three primary rice cropping seasons (Winter-Spring, Spring-Autumn, Autumn-Summer), separated into eight specific rice cropping seasons, depending on the date or rice sowing/transplanting and harvesting. Besides, the difference in rice sowing time of the three main rice cropping seasons was identified and delineated. The simulated rice yield always higher observed rice yields at all seasons, from-8.65 to 22.20% in the Winter-Spring season, 5 to 28.6% in Spring-Summer season, and-1 to 49% in Summer-Autumn. The results were validated by comparing with the government statistical results, which was a very close correlation. The results suggested that we can use the MODIS satellite image for delineating rice cropping status. The rice yield and production can be simulated and delineated by the combination with the rice crop model.

In addition, the Website combined with MODIS image interpretation results and the survey data weekly can show the sowing progress maps, growth stage, yield, area of each subregion farming, the current pest maps and pest warning maps on rice updated by 8 days. In the Mekong Delta, Plant Protection Department has developed 234 light-traps to monitor the BPH migration. However, data collection from light-trap represent as raw data, thus, do not provide a general view to the manager for deciding rice cultivation schedule on a large area. A WebGIS application based on ASP.NET and open source map libraries (SharpMap) was supported to manage the BHP data in the light-traps. This application provides functions to update statistically the data of BHP caught by the trap every day and the BHP infected area in the Mekong Delta in each commune, district and province. Specially, this application has provided the density maps of BPH in the light trap and the pest-infected area map online at the commune level to help farmers monitoring accurately the situation of BPH migrant and pest-infestation. AGRIWEBGIS_CTis built using ASP.NET Framework programming, database management system with new features in SQL SERVER 2008 version has an integrated spatial database and the open source library SharpMap. The system interfaces Vietnamese, many utility and ease of use as thematic maps to view. This system also provides aggregate statistics of each field data and option that allows system administrators to update the data of the departments. Besides, the general information page supports users during access as rural agriculture news.

In the recent years, the hand held become popular in many research field. This writing is based o... more In the recent years, the hand held become popular in many research field. This writing is based on the research to develop the GIS application software to support in landuse map surveying and verifying. This software can be received real time coordinate data from GPS through GARMIN and NMEA protocols and correct it to draw the track on the landuse map window. These map formats supported are included ERSI shape file and GeoTIFF image. This application have been concern in Affine method for digital warping and corrected errors between received positions from GPS and positions on the map. Testing the application by updating the landuse map in CanTho Southern area, the result show that is easy to use with low cost.
