Blockchain technology is now transitioning beyond the realm of cryptocurrencies applications, to embrace a wider array of applications, including the sustainability of supply chains and traceability of responsibly sourced goods. Despite the rise in the global agenda, and emerging research in other academic fields, Information Systems (IS) research on blockchain and sustainability is still scarce. Based on a review of empirical studies, we use the perspective of the 17 United Nations SDGs to map research on blockchain and sustainable development, and lay the ground for a research agenda in the IS field. Based on this agenda, we showcase the exploration of some of the proposed research questions in an ongoing research project on the use of blockchain in the lifestyle and design industry in Denmark.

The objectives for implementing e-government are often defined but the means for fuelling the adoption and diffusion of e-government are typically less well clear in the policy statements. The present study assesses the impact of latest Danish initiative implemented to stimulate e-government adoption. The e-Day initiative simply yet powerfully states that ‘one governmental authority has the right to demand that its communication with another authority must be in electronic format’ which is expected to create ripple effects both internally and externally. The e-Day initiative represents a drastic change in the former policy statements concerning IT adoption and diffusion in Danish government. The policy statements had previously been based on voluntary adoption focusing on visions and pedagogical intervention in governmental agencies, but the e-Day initiative marked a departure from that strategy and the carrot has been exchang...

But despite the growing number of mobile payment apps, very few solutions turn to be successful as the majority of them fail to gain a critical mass of users. In this paper we investigate two successful digital payment solutions in order to outline some of the factors which contribute to the widespread adoption of a digital payment platform. In order to conduct our analysis we propose the Reach and Range Framework for Multi-Sided Platforms. Our study indicates that the success of digital payment platforms lies with the ability of the platform to balance the reach (number of participants) and the range (features and functionalities) of the platform.

The research is based on our own studies as well as a review of theoretical and empirical studies of modern information systems and the networks associated with these systems. The paper departs from a monolithic view of buying software as an atomic event that is based solely on the software's independent features and its immediate price. Instead we promote a pluralistic multi-organizational view of buying software as a continuous process of trying to match available packages with a base of already installed information systems while anticipating future needs. We have formulated seven alerts that both researchers and practitioners should consider when studying these building blocks of e-business.

The next target is set on payment. Through synthesizing available literature, we construct a framework for studying digital payment platforms that combines platform, technology and business design aspects. The framework is applied to conduct a comparative case study of digital payment platforms. Four types of market actors are considered: banks, mobile network operators, merchants, and startups, which are incumbents and disrupters in the payment industry. These actors issue four types of payment systems, and we can observe that three of four platforms types can be classified as multi-sided platforms (MSP). All alternatives seek foothold by issuing evolutionary payment instruments, which are intertwined with digital payment platforms. By hosting third-party services, payment instruments are evolving from single-purpose to mu...

However, despite its potential, NFC-based payment has not reached mass adoption on the customer nor on the merchant side. This paper constructs a preliminary framework for studying digital payment systems and analyzing strategies of current market actors, such as banks, mobile network operators, and merchants. These market actors are identified as incumbents or contenders, and they are currently jockeying for digital payment platform leadership. We analyze three different contactless payment systems implemented or planned by different actors in the European market. When synthesizing our observations, we note that all three multi-sided platforms (MSP) can provide fully functional and technically solid NFC payment systems. All three platforms seek to gain a foothold by subsidizing NFC payment instruments to their existing customer base. In addition, they extend their existing ...

Recently drastic changes have occurred on the supply side of the technology on three fronts. First, intranet implementation tools have become very accessible. Second, a new breed of intranet tools known as "intranet-in-a-box" enables the implementation of an intranet without much in-house technical expertise. And third, the rise

This is done assuming the perspective of a mobile network operator. Through example stemming mainly from the Danish and Italian mobile markets, our paper proposes a model for the management of mobile services, which resembles a lifecycle model. As the Mobile Management Model resembles the rise and fall of network operators, the reader is accompanied on a journey through its four phases. Characteristics of the phases are described in details, and suggestions are derived for optimal strategic behaviors of network operators. The model is supported by evidences from the Danish and Italian mobile markets.
