Ranchi (/ˈrɑːntʃi/, Hindi: [ˈrãːtʃiː]) is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Odisha, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas. Ranchi has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.

  • رانشي ‎/‏ˈrɑːntʃi‎/‏ (باللغة الهندية राँची ) هي عاصمة الولاية الهندية جهارخاند. وكانت مدينة رانشي مركز حركة جهارخاند لإقامة دولة منفصلة للمناطق القبلية في ولاية بيهار الجنوبية وأوريسا الشمالية وغرب بنغال الغربية وشرق ولاية تشاتيسغار الحالية. وتم إنشاء ولاية جهارخاند في 15 من نوفمبر 2000م من خلال ضم تقسيمات ولاية بيهار المتمثلة في شوتا ناجبور وسانتال بارجاناس. واسم رانشي يأتي من قرية آرشي الآورانية التي كانت موجودة في الموقع. وكلمة آرشي مشتقة من الكلمة الآورانية التي تعني بستان الخيزُران أو الهراوة. ووفقًا للأسطورة، بعد مشادة كلامية مع الروح، ضرب أحد المزارعين الروح بهراوة الخيزُران أو الآرشي. وصاحت الروح آرشي، آرشي، آرشي ثم اختفت؛ وأصبحت آرشي راشي وراشي باتت رانشي. وأحد الأحياء الهامة تاريخيًا هو دوراندا (Doranda) ('duran' 'दुरङ' تعني أغنية و'daah' 'दअः' تعني المياه في لغة مُنداري)، بين نهري هينو (Bhusur) وهارمو، الذي تم فيه تدمير المحطة المدنية والخزانة العامة والكنيسة التي تم إنشاؤها من قِبل الراج البريطاني على يد القوات المتمردة أثناء ثورة الهند. وتحدد مدينة رانشي الحالية حدود موقع قرية آرشي القديمة.
