Converged communications, video and innovation in pedagogic settings

Published: 22 October 2009 Publication History

Abstract

In an environment where academic globalization may become the norm, solutions to contemporary teaching and learning problems frequently include methods that promote effective communication, assist in resolving telecommuting opportunities, and use advanced information technology to support learning at a distance. Of importance, many of the solutions afforded by converged networks apply to traditional as well as distance learning environments. Innovation centered on
enhanced communications
is often at the center of these solutions. This panel will explore these ideas. It begins with a presentation on Network convergence, the fundamental change permitting the concepts mentioned above. The central theme of the presentation is a focus on video, and an analysis of video options is included. The presentation concludes with the idea of a collaboratory and implications for pedagogic strategies.
