Influence of Time Delay Accuracy on MVDR Beamforming

Published: 06 June 2021 Publication History

Abstract

Time delay accuracy affects the performance of sonar beamforming, and it has a greater impact on adaptive beamforming, which is more sensitive to data. Based on the analysis of the principle of coarse delay and fractional interpolation fine delay, this paper studies the influence of delay accuracy on conventional beamforming and MVDR beamforming under the condition of linear array and circular array is studied by using numerical simulation method, and verifies it with marine experimental data. The results show that: (1) whether linear array or circular array, the delay accuracy has little influence on CBF technology, but has great influence on MVDR algorithm; (2) MVDR algorithm needs fine delay technology to ensure its performance on engineering application.
