Game On: Using Serious Tabletop Games to Enhance User Engagement and Optimize Requirements Engineering for Smart City Urban Mobility Solutions

    As cities embrace smart technologies for urban development, the demand for new urban mobility solutions grows. However, capturing and prioritising diverse citizen needs poses challenges. In response, we introduce a serious tabletop game tailored for urban mobility requirements engineering. Our research aims to design and evaluate the effectiveness of this game in facilitating user engagement and optimising the elicitation, prioritisation and analysis of requirements in the context of urban mobility solutions. Our approach builds on previous serious gaming studies while focusing on citizen engagement and customisation for urban contexts. The game comprises collaborative activities using a co-design canvas. Through iterative playtesting and usability testing, the game’s design is refined.
