Comparative file I/O methods in APL2

Abstract

This paper will discuss the state of file I/O in APL2. The intent is to educate the readers on the options open to them so that they can choose the file I/O method most suitable for their needs.Topics will include evolution of file I/O over the years, current status on a platform-by-platform basis, mainframe to workstation migration issues, suitability of the different methods available for various tasks, and performance notes.
