  • Abstract

In this position paper, we present a web-based academic journal system as a subsystem of the CINDI digital library, which provides all the essential functions to support the different roles and operations at every step of the academic journal publishing process. These functions include paper uploading, paper allocation to qualified reviewers, online paper evaluation and blind debating, blind interactions between authors and reviewers for clarifications, deadline management, issue publishing, user annotations for any paper in the on-line published collection including author response and an optional online fee collection subsystem. Furthermore, the CINDI online journal system distinguishes itself from other existing online journal publishing systems by its collaboration and integration with other CINDI subsystems, such as the conference subsystem and the search subsystem. The metadata of journal articles are extracted, stored and indexed to facilitate searching and achieve the goal of making the collected articles easily accessible to the community.
