Introducing a New Arabic Endpoint for DBpedia Internationalization Project

Published: 11 July 2016 Publication History

Abstract

The semantic web is one of the most significant terms in information technology that aims to enhance the interaction between users and machine, as well as enriching the meaning of web contents. DBpedia is considered one of the emerging projects through the World Wide Web that aims to convert the unstructured data of Wikipedia to structured data. During the last few years, there were 19 published chapters for different languages including Arabic which is considered the most recent one. Nevertheless, there isn't much work done on the Arabic Chapter with its unique characteristics. The goal of this paper is to launch the new SPARQL endpoint for the new Arabic Chapter of DBpedia that will add additional value to the DBpedia community. This launching will eventually open the door for new applications based on this Arabic Chapter. Also, this paper compares between the English Chapter and the new Arabic Chapter of DBpedia in terms of accuracy and performance in proposing queries in Apache Spark via Shark query language as a new methodology for retrieving data from DBpedia chapters that can enhance the performance through employing big data techniques.
