  • Abstract

Audio-visual materials for training have found wide use in many disciplines. How widely used are they for user and staff training by academic computing centers? On what subjects have media products been created? What leads computing centers to use media—or not to use media? To investigate such questions, the Academic Computing Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison surveyed a random sample of 200 academic computing centers.
Our first goal was to gather information to help us decide what if anything we wanted to do with media in our training program. Our second goal was to provide for other computing centers information that might help them make their own decisions on media use.
