This project is based on a device that aimed to create a space for speech and writing in a non-hospitable place, a camp in Panama. The aim was to give people the opportunity to leave a trace of their passage and their history. In six weeks, some fifty texts were collected in seventeen different languages with different alphabets. This work, led by Marilou Sarrut, a doctoral student in geography and anthropology, is in dialogue with the work of Marie-Caroline Saglio-Yatzimirsky, an anthropologist and clinical psychologist in psychotraumatology working with asylum seekers. The aim of this dialogue is to make these texts speak, to understand what is left behind at the time of transit by the people themselves, where the traumatic experience of the crossing leaves room for the unspeakable and the unshared. The exchange between the two researchers will make it possible to understand both the subject of violence and what it entails, but also the expression of it by those who live it. This dialogue highlights the graphic traces and the way in which they reveal the violence of the migratory experience in an unprecedented way, while at the same time allowing a narration of the traumatic experience, which can in certain cases serve as a testimony.
