About Me
editI've been a member of the English Wikipedia since March 2008. I am an active member of WikiProject NRHP and also do a lot of work related to WikiProject Historic Sites (largely inactive).
My main content creation consists of researching the history and progression of the Meridian and Lauderdale County area in Mississippi, and I have contributed a lot to the city's article and articles related to it – the most prevalent of which are listed below. I also do a lot of work with heritage registers, having been a key contributor to the List of Mississippi Landmarks, List of Michigan State Historic Sites, List of City of Pittsburgh historic designations, and List of National Monuments of Ireland. I helped create and help to maintain {{Infobox NRHP}} and {{Infobox Historic Site}}.
I also operate a bot, User:NationalRegisterBot, which periodically queries all articles linked from lists under the scope of WP:NRHP and dumps various information to its user subpages. The data produced by this bot is then used by various scripts to automate or semi-automate the tallying and upkeep of articles about NRHP listings. Most of this progress data can be found at WP:NRHPPROGRESS, and several county-level maps are generated from the data on that page. I have also made several scripts for non-NRHP/historic sites purposes, all of which are listed below.
Another project I have worked on is the {{ConvertAbbrev}} family. This template family, though a work in progress, is meant to make backdoor operations of Wikipedia easier by allowing abbreviations and long names to be used interchangeably (i.e. if a template needs ISO abbreviations for something, the template can use ConvertAbbrev to allow a user to simply type what comes naturally instead of having to remember those cryptic identifiers.) The template family consists of databases of abbreviations that I (and some others) have entered in by hand through many hours of work.
To-do list
editNRHP
edit- Updating NRHP pages:
- Finish rewriting Template:Infobox NRHP/doc at User:Dudemanfellabra/AltSandbox.
- Update WP:NRHPMOS, WP:NRHPHELP, WP:NRHPFAQ
- Try to use Module:Sort and {{Sort list}} to make a timeline out of the dates in {{Infobox NRHP}}
- Create University of Southern Mississippi Historic District (possibly Campus of the University of Southern Mississippi) using NRHP nomination.
- Develop University of Southern Mississippi article.
- Create/expand articles about National Register of Historic Places listings in Lauderdale County, Mississippi.
- Create Meridian Senior High School and Junior College (probably better titled Meridian High School)
- Create Meridian Waterworks Pumping Station and Clear Water Basin using NRHP nomination (started here)
- Create United States Sugar Crop Field Station using NRHP nomination (started here)
- Monitor unassessed NRHP articles (currently 5 articles).
- Monitor infoboxes needing cleanup (currently 68 articles).
- Development
- Improve 1,183 articles sourced only to NRIS by adding inline citations and additional information from reliable sources
- Expand the shortest stubs within the project's scope
- Run peer reviews/collaborations to improve higher importance NRHP articles to good or featured status
- Create new articles and develop existing ones in states where all NRHP nomination forms are available online
- Create requested articles
- Add Category:National Historic Landmark Districts to all appropriate articles or redirects (has been done only for Colorado as of 10/2022)
- Images
- Help add NRIS reference numbers to images and categories on Commons without one
- Place uploaded, unused images into county lists and articles
- Add links to categories on Commons where they are missing from lists
- Upload new photos to Commons and include on NRHP lists and articles
- Populate commons categories that have small amounts of images.
- Find and add HABS, Flickr, or other images where allowable
- Maintenance
- Assess 5 article(s) having no quality rating assigned
- Assess 41 article(s) having no importance rating assigned
- Add missing information to county lists: coordinates (117) reference numbers (1)
- Fix 68 infobox(es) needing cleanup
- Remove unknown parameters from 28 infoboxes including them.
- Cleanup these articles tagged as needing cleanup
- Pay attention to 2 article(s) tagged and these listed as needing attention
- Address a state's NRIS info issues with National Register staff and state historic preservation offices
- Monitor pages with title disagreement (Hyphen vs. dash, etc.) and fix connections
- Improve NRHP tools and help pages
Historic Sites
edit- Create articles about Mississippi Landmarks.
- Merge registers at WP:HSITES into Template:Designation.
- Convert some registers from list of heritage registers into WP:WLM standard row template format to allow scripts/bots to update them.
ConvertAbbrev
edit- Update 3166-1 to account for changes since first created.
- Add support for ISO 639-3 codes.
- Possibly expand/rename to include all ISO standards.
- Work on more ISO 3166-2 integration.
Scripting
edit- Create a script to generate a list of not-fully-illustrated counties sorted by how many images are outstanding.
- Convert former NHL lists to use row templates after the row template itself has been updated.
- Create a script to tag images used in NRHP lists (possibly other registers?) with the NRHP template on Commons using the methods in this CORS example. (requested by Rodw)
- Possibly add in a check to CommonsCat script (and above) for coordinates to avoid errors while tagging/adding photos, as suggested by Aegoceras here.
- Add feature to CommonsCat script to look in linked article for image(s) that may not be included in the table.
- Learn from these two scripts and possibly modify Progress Page script to automatically update maps.
Images
editThis page shows all the images I have uploaded, including historic postcards from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History's Cooper Postcard Collection.
Before I knew about Commons, I uploaded several pictures to the English Wikipedia (that have since been moved to Commons), and they do not show up in my gallery. Those images are displayed below.
