Fassuta is a local council in the Northern District of Israel, south of the Lebanese border, on the northwestern slopes of Mount Meron.[1]
The municipality was established it 1965. The population was estimated at 2,900 residents (in the Israeli Census of September 2005), with an annual population growth rate was 0.9%, and most of the residents are Christian Arabs. The proportion of high school students who achieve a passing grade at the matriculation exams is 60.5% (2000). The mean income was NIS 3,748 (over the year 2000), as compared to a national average of NIS 6,835.
The Mar Elias church in Fassouta celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007. The church is named after Elias, the village's patron saint. A large statue of Mar Elias stands in the central square. [2]
