Traffic Flow

[edit]

The Google Map images of the bridge make me think traffic is only allowed to flow one way at a time. I didn't see anything to conform that on official web pages. Assuming it's true, I think it's worthy of a comment.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 23:47, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's never been true when I've used the bridge, although I haven't done so in the last few years. It looks as though the vertical and the 45-degree images both just happen to have been taken at times when there was a backlog of traffic at the customs/immigration barrier in one direction while traffic in the other direction was light. Note that in the 45-degree image there are a couple of vehicles on the bridge heading toward Canada, and in the vertical image there are a few vehicles heading toward the bridge to leave Canada and there is no lineup indicating that they would have to wait for anything. --65.94.51.64 (talk) 12:03, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of the Name

[edit]

The "Construction" section speculates that the name "Rainbow Bridge" is likely inspired by Genesis 9:12-17. It seems more likely to me that it was inspired by Bifröst (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bifr%C3%B6st). The connection is mentioned in a few places, such as "The Homes of the New World: Impressions of America", pg. 591 : https://books.google.com/books?id=Wh83gC2gtcYC&pg=PA591 Rich Freedman (talk) 23:21, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User:Randy Kryn restored this image. MOS:IMAGEQUALITY says "dark or blurry" images should be avoided, yet only a small portion of this photo actually shows the bridge...dark and blurry. Images should also not be "primarily decorative", per MOS:IMAGES. The input of others would be appreciated. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:54, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't mean to restore this image specifically, but restored the photo gallery which was removed without discussion. But this image isn't bad, it shows the bridge in relationship to its surroundings, with the American Falls and bridge lit up in their nighttime colors. Not everything has to be directed at the day-people, let the night owls give it a go. Randy Kryn (talk) 23:08, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There already is a high-quality image in the article that shows the bridge's "relationship to its surroundings". This isn't a photo gallery or a tourist guide, and there is a link to the Commons in the article for readers wishing to see more pictures. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:32, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but all the other photos are of daytime scenes and do not take in the entire overview of location, American Falls, lighting, cityscape, etc. One night scene does no harm and a bit of good, showing the overnight lighting arrangements. Not sure what the objection is, aside from it being night ("dark" in MOS likely means a dark hard-to-see image. This isn't that, just a nighttime photo). Randy Kryn (talk) 23:40, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the gallery shoehorns images into an article that are irrelevant and decorative, such as the photo you reinserted of a sign on a door. Moreover, I originally removed the gallery per WP:IG, and there is no place else in this short article to place so many photos. Too bad for users on handheld devices having to load so many irrelevant images, such as these.

Magnolia677 (talk) 23:59, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article is about the bridge, and the gallery pictures fit the topic in quite a few ways. None of them seem irrelevant, and they complement each other in descriptors of the bridge and its transit. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:16, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
