My password

[edit]

....doesn't work at all. Tried to log in as User:Unfriendly Aliens, only that the password process is really faulty. I'm rejoining under another name to see if THAT works. Will let you know. I'm no sock, for they belong on the drawer, or feet, not here.216.247.72.142 (talk) 05:37, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I think you may want to contact an admin, though. I'm not entirely sure of the process at this point. -- RockstoneSend me a message! 05:45, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from Genetic nurture, which you proposed for deletion. This is a genuine effect and is known by other names in other parts of evolutionary biology. I will provide some sources on the talk page. There's arguably some OR about mental health in the article that we can remove, or it could be merged into maternal effect.

Please let me know if there's something I have done wrong as this is the first time I have contested a PROD. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}} back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

Miscellaneous

  • Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.

  • Xaosflux, RoySmith and Cyberpower678 have been appointed to the Electoral Commission for the 2023 Arbitration Committee Elections. BusterD is the reserve commissioner.

  • Following a motion, remedies 3.1 (All related articles under 1RR whenever the dispute over naming is concerned), 6 (Stalemate resolution) and 30 (Administrative supervision) of the Macedonia 2 case have been rescinded.
  • Following a motion, remedy 6 (One-revert rule) of the The Troubles case has been amended.
  • An arbitration case named Industrial agriculture has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case close 8 November.

ANI close

[edit]

Thanks for closing that long mess of a discussion about Immanuelle's draft creation. I was hoping you might amend your closing statement slightly by adding the word "additional", as in "any additional restrictions". Immanuelle is already under multiple editing restrictions due to sockpuppetry, use of ML translations, copyright concerns, and related issues. Those were hardly touched on in the discussion you closed, so there doesn't seem to be reason to think that the discussion is a community endorsement of removing those restrictions entirely, as the current close statement might imply. Pinging Galobtter, the admin who imposed the existing restrictions, in case I am misinterpreting something here. Indignant Flamingo (talk) 01:28, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Indignant Flamingo: Sure, I'll amend the closure statement to clarify that. I wasn't aware of their history. Thanks! -- RockstoneSend me a message! 01:29, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that, and thanks again for stepping up. Indignant Flamingo (talk) 01:32, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! I wasn't sure if it was my place to close it... but I figured someone ought to. Let me know if my amended statement is good. --RockstoneSend me a message! 01:33, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's fine. Somewhere in that mess Immanuelle voluntarily agreed to a six-month restriction on new drafts, as suggested by Cullen328, but that was fairly early in the discussion, and others felt differently. So I guess it's on them to decide if they keep their promise or not, and either way your statement makes clear that many participants recommended not creating more drafts. Non-admin closure for your RFC

[edit]

Hey, @Rockstone35:. I did a non-administrator closure for your RFC on the United States.

There is a lack of consensus for any of the listed to be included in the lead of the article. Per WP: ONUS, all should not be included in the lead at the present time, although several editors in the RFC believe that some merit inclusion. (Without a clear agreement on what those things are.) Aquillion, KlayCax, and Rockstone all gave good arguments for inclusion/exclusion, although none of their arguments seemed to be particularly more convincing than the others. Editors have widely expressed concern that the lead has grown far too long. However, there was no consensus on how to fix the issue, or essentially any other forms of agreement among editors beyond this

I recommend that editors submit another RFC if they wanted these changes reinstated. (Preferrably one at a time.) Thanks! StardustToStardust (talk) 20:15, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Removal request in U.S. article

[edit]

Per the RFC closure this needs removed from the lead:

it has low levels of perceived corruption. It has higher levels of incarceration and inequality than most other liberal democracies and is the only liberal democracy without universal healthcare. As a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities, the U.S. has been extensively shaped by the world's largest immigrant population.

Editors have also recently added:

The U.S. is considered a cultural superpower, as American movies, music, video games, sports and food are internationally known.

and:

is a global leader in numerous scientific, technological and economic fields, especially in information technology, with the world's highest research and development expenditure.

and:

However, racial discrimination and inequality continued into subsequent centuries.

Which makes the length of the lead even worse. StardustToStardust (talk) 05:17, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your justification for your rollback on Awareness distorts the history of the page since I first changed its lede and your suggestion on having an RFC before a talk page discussion is contradicted by Wikipedia policy.
