The result of the debate was: Delete; deleted as F8 by Fastily (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) A file with this name on Commons is now visible. AnomieBOT⚡ 04:03, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- It says that the copyright holder has released the photo to the public domain, yet the source contains no copyright statement as far as I can tell. Stefan2 (talk) 01:25, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I am the owner of art-hanoi.com and all images are free, as it is stated on the [1].
If there is something wrong with the copyright notices on the images, please feel free to fix it. You can probably do it better than me as I'm not a copyright lawyer :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pyvanet (talk • contribs) 04:53, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- File:Coin will3.jpg (delete | talk | history | logs).
- Dubious copyright tags: it both says that it is copyrighted and that it isn't copyrighted. I'd assume that the coin is a crown copyright, meaning that it expired long ago. There is no information about who the photographer is, so the image should probably be deleted per commons:COM:ART#Photograph of an old coin found on the Internet. - Note: This image is currently tagged as non-free. If there is a dispute with the rationale, please tag the image with {{dfu}} or list it at WP:Non-free content review. AnomieBOT⚡ 00:01, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- tvtropes.org does have a cc-by-sa license, but that most likely only applies to the text, not necessarily to images they've taken from somewhere else. This image was originally sourced from The List; tvtropes copy is smaller and cropped. dave pape (talk) 04:01, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- This picture, however, is used on numerous other websites such as the BBC, Cambridge News, and the Radio Times:
[2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
None of these websites have the slightest credit to the creator of the image, all claiming it to be theirs, writing at the bottom of the website a copyright statement, even though this picture is widespread throughout the internet. This is definitely a free file from the creative commons, as specified. Rifasj123 (talk) 05:36, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete: Actually based on some of the links you provided, I can see that the image is copyright of the BBC, especially when this and this clearly and specifically attribute the BBC for the image itself. The source given by the uploader would clearly be copyfraud if they actually claim the image itself is freely licenced but most likely the CC licence statement, as dave pape mentions above, is for the text and not the image. Even if the sites mentioned do not attribute the image properly, they will likely claim journalistic fair-use, but we don't accept fair-use images on the commons and even on some of our language wikis non-free images are not accepted for living people either while some don't accept any non-free images of any find. ww2censor (talk) 06:17, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- You're one of these useless little meddlers, aren't you, with nothing of your own to contribute, unwilling to work, just coming here to wreck things and puff yourself up, a little toad? Well you just go ahead and do whatever you like. I'm not going to waste my time building a sand castle on a beach with a tide of fools coming in. — Xiong熊talk* 21:11, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Yeah, replacing 516 × 387 px files with bigger version 6,000 × 6,000 is thoroughly useless or 400 × 395 with 1,852 × 1,827. On topic: it is PD-NASA rather than PD-I-think-it-is-NASA or PD-you-are-little-toad :D Bulwersator (talk) 13:28, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete: considering the source link provided does not work therefore we cannot verify the claim this is a NASA image, so it must be deleted. Remember that we err on the side of caution. ww2censor (talk) 17:17, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Does the code at the start of the description, JSC2004-E-01411 [JSC=Johnson Space Center], show that it is a NASA image? In any case, it means that a live page identical to the old one with the image can be found. There's nothing about it being copyright, though no explicit statement it is public domain, but it seems to be enough and what you're looking for. —innotata 17:58, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep: Generally all NASA image are free and most images that are not their own are specifically attributed as such, so you will not find a public domain statement beside or near their own images. We now have a live link and there is no external attribution. ww2censor (talk) 18:09, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- I am not convinced that "This was scanned from page 394, fig. 112 of Libbie H. Hyman, The Invertebrates: Protozoa through Ctenophora, V. 1" (c) 1940 by McGraw-Hill Book Company. Search on the U. S. Copyright Office website under author "Hyman, Libbie" and under title "Invertebrates" show entries volumes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 (published later) are under copyright, but there is no entry for volume 1 and therefore I believe the copyright has lapsed." is effective way to prove PD status of this work. Published after 1923. Bulwersator (talk) 12:39, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- copyright.gov's online records only go back to 1978; a 1940 book would have been renewed in about 1968. Stanford's database covers earlier renewals, and indicates that the copyright on the 1940 volume was renewed - http://collections.stanford.edu/copyrightrenewals/bin/detail?fileID=131362777X --dave pape (talk) 19:24, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Photo of an image. Question 2D or 3D? I think it's meant to be seen as a 2D image as it's in a flat frame, and therefore cannot be non-free. If it is 3D (it's made of 3D objects) then FoP for UK is OK. An oil painting is always 2D, and has about as much texture as this image. Ronhjones (Talk) 17:19, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
