[edit]Inherited from Old Spanish fallar (“to find”), following internal consonant spread and palatalization, namely via Vulgar Latin *faflāre, from Latin afflāre (“to breathe or blow upon”). Cognate to Portuguese achar, Romanian afla. For the phonetic development, compare Old Spanish finchar, Spanish hinchar.
