PRESENT PROGRESSIVE
Uso: El presente continuo/ progresivo se utiliza para hablar sobre algo que
está pasando en el momento en el que hablamos.
Por ejemplo, “en este momento yo estoy enseñando inglés”; la acción
“enseñar inglés” está ocurriendo en este momento.
“I am teaching English at the moment.”
“Estoy enseñando inglés en este momento.”

Reglas ortográficas de la terminación ING

1. Si el verbo tiene una sola sílaba con terminación

Consonante + Vocal + Consonante como los verbos:

simplemente doblamos la última consonante y agregamos ING.

 Run (correr): running
 Shop (comprar): shopping
 Sit (sentar): sitting

Existen algunas excepciones a esta regla. Si el verbo es de una sola sílaba y

termina en Consonante + Vocal + Consonante, pero la última consonante
es W, X, Y o Z no doblamos la consonante.

 Fix: (arreglar) fixing

2. Cuando el verbo tiene dos o más sílabas y la última sílaba termina en
Consonante + Vocal + Consonante debemos prestar atención al centro
de la palabra. Si el acento de la palabra recae en la primera sílaba no
doblamos la consonante.
 Happen (ocurrir) → happening
Si el acento recae en la última sílaba, doblamos la consonante final.
 Begin (comenzar) → beginning

3. Cuando el verbo termina en la vocal “e”, simplemente quitamos la “e” y

agregamos ING.

 Dance (bailar) → dancing

4. Cuando el verbo termina en “y”, simplemente agregamos ING.
 Play (jugar) → playing
 Study (estudiar) → studying

5. A los todos los otros verbos (te sugerimos aprender más verbos en inglés)
sólo debes agregar ING (Reading, listening, etc.)

Para expresiones negativas, agregamos “NOT" antes del verbo + -ing.

Las preguntas que pueden responderse con respuestas "sí" o "no" se forman

invirtiendo el sujeto y la forma correcta del verbo "ser" (am / is / are).

(Invertir simplemente significa que cambiamos el orden del sujeto y la forma

del verbo)

Examples:

• Is he speaking on the phone with your teacher?

• Is the baby still crying?

• Is the dog eating his food now?

• Are we cooking together at this moment?

• Are they sleeping yet?

It is a rainy Saturday, It is raining a lot. Mary and her family are spending the
afternoon at home. Her uncles are visiting them.

Mary and her father are in the living room. Mary is playing the guitar and her

Mary’s older brother, Peter, is in his bedroom playing computer games. He is
