ABSTRACT Accessibility desired by society requires the research and development of technics, materials and equipment to create assistive technologies, resources and services that allow guidance and mobility skills for individuals with visual disabilities. Furthermore, human longevity also extends the need of special features that objectify the execution of daily activities (work, leisure and housing) with freedom and autonomy, reducing barriers and providing quality of life through the expansion of its communication, access and relationship with environment. Among these technologies stands out in this article the importance of tactile representation with focus in the elaboration of urban tactile maps directed to blind people, the organization of guidelines for its implementation, involvement of interdisciplinary teams and employment of new processes in their production aimed at the expansion of its use and enabling blind people for this purpose. This work will describe some experiences of urban temporary installations originated from government acts (Decreto 55.045 – regulates requests, projects, installation, approval, obligations of the maintainer and the sponsor), based on public-private partenrship to create parklets on parking lots as a response of a contemporary demand of social life on streets. In Brazilian cities, open spaces structures and forms result of the relationship between property forms, parceling of soil, road netwok and many other public and private agencies that occupies sidewalks with infrastructure as energy, diverse cabling, gas, water and sewer ducts among many others. The article will describe the public act and will be illustrated with the new typology that is literally popped up last year in the city. Although parklets in São Paulo are not, until now, a public program that deals appropriately with urban issues associated with public life on streets, the public act shall be seen as a fresh start of collaborative work between non-governmental organizations, governments and private entities along shopping streets that achieved institutionalized status and is well accepted by citizens.

Brazilian cities, as a rule, have being building open public spaces as if they were residual spaces of private properties. Public policies promote facilities to car owners, so pedestrian circulation was reduced to spaces with little functionality (locomotion, access conditions, shape, dimensions and other morphological attributes), that resulted in places of public life that do not guarantee the quality or safety of the users. São Paulo’s mater plan has been suffering numerous amendments to promote a better mobility without the presentation of studies pertaining to pedestrian spaces sidewalks. The actions of the public authorities to the issues about urban mobility have been reduced to the deployment of public transport with a focus on buses. Issues such as quality of driveways (one-third of the trips in the city are made on foot), safety against the set of barriers (equipment, public securities and urban infrastructures) randomly distributed in space, private management (the responsibility of management of sidewalks is of the owner of the immediate area) generate the need for indicators to cooperate not only on qualification of existing spaces as well as in organizing projects guidelines to cities in expansion process.

The paper proposes another fresh perspective: to consider open spaces as a system, or better, as one of the urban infrastructures responsible of the urban morphology of human settlements.
In Brazil in many cases during the XX century, the places where the rich and medium class citizens and sometimes poor people live their public life have been projected, organized, located and distributed from the obedience of public plans by real estate developers and state agencies. Although this adjustment provided developers to accommodate recreation areas, sidewalks and many other places to people, it also created a city with open spaces that seem to be fragments poorly located, unevenly distributes and dimensions and morphology unpredictable not always facilitating the realization of public life or even urban appropriation.
Formal and spatial typologies, the concept of functionality of open spaces associated with them and also the role of the spatial fragments created by according to on percentages laws originated by urban plans, are some of the aspects that will be presented. The paper will present a result of a research based on a , São Paulo’s district known as Vila Mariana, that is a part of QUAPA-SEL- Network’s research, which is developing the national research project entitled "Open spaces system in the constitution of the contemporary urban form in Brazil: production and appropriation".
rphology studies cannot consider urban form without taking into account buildings and open spaces... more rphology studies cannot consider urban form without taking into account buildings and open spaces. These two elements are closely connected to physical support and pre-existing environmental dynamics. Therefore we see no sense in breaking them in any studies related to the urban form. This article begins to look at the city and its forms under a rarely used way. The open space becomes the protagonist of the analysis. This approach considers both publicly and privately owned spaces. It evaluate the role of different types of retreats that shape backyards, enclosed yards, parking lots, parks and plazas, etc.. and through which passes part of everyday city life. Despite the natural connection links with others societies in the world like: similar neighborhoods and architectural forms, global urban habits, Brazilian cities hold a peculiar form coming from the specific process of parceling land, urban legislation, cultural habits and formal and informal actions that resulted as the contemporaneous Brazilian urban landscape. After five years of study, carried out by a national network of researchers, coordinated by LAB-QUAPA[1] – at the São Paulo University, it was possible to build a comprehensive overview of the characteristics, opportunities and constraints of the Brazilian cities open space systems. The presentation discusses the relationship between the open space systems and the urban form, checking the points in common: their process of constitution, the existing social and environmental conflicts, and their morphological structure and appropriation types of open spaces.

São eles: 1 “Os sistemas de espaços livres na constituição da forma urbana contemporânea no Brasil: produção e apropriação - Quapá Sel II”, de autoria de Silvio Soares Macedo, Eugenio Fernandes Queiroga, Ana Cecília de Arruda Campos, Rogério Akamine, Fábio Mariz Gonçalves, Fany Galender, João Meyer, Jonathas M.

The purpose of this paper is to show how worker villages in the city of São Paulo have become urban scars today, once the quick, aggressive evolution process the city has gone through eliminated the elements that once integrated the historical outlook of the city, such as memories from past times, records of different ways of thinking and also other aesthetical views – honorable elements that allowed building a whole cultural heritage that directed urban patterns now completely gone and that changed their former areas into degraded places, in physical, moral and urban aspects. Therefore, the fragments that still exist can still be preserved, but they can no longer be perceived as some type of genuine environmental heritage. In example, the Vila Maria Zélia case.

The present paper intends to present the workshops that have been held by the research The system of open spaces and the constitution of the contemporary public life in Brazil, which has been carried out in the Laboratório da Paisagem/Quadro do Paisagismo no Brasil – FAUUSP and supported by Fapesp. It is about the work process and the initial reflections on their contributions for the research, regarding six workshops that have been already done since 2007.
