The historiography of the occupation of the Araucania has its own life and history. The different... more The historiography of the occupation of the Araucania has its own life and history. The different views correspond to times and places where the chapters of that process in the Chilean History were written. In this path, the frontier studies are positioned as articulating axis. Based on that, it is possible to do critical analysis of the facts, recognizing the actors and their motivations in a larger context. Military campaigns in conjunction with the emergence of the State in the Araucania caused negative effects that impact Mapuche people until today. The military defeated and loss of land jeopardized their existence and ways of life. However, they managed to preserve themselves over time forming a “culture of resistance”, aimed inward, isolated but permeable to foreign elements that would be useful to them in their new status as defeated people forced to be deprived of their ancestral lands. In this article, published the year 2012, I used the concept "indio" on pages 114, 117, 128. I did it within the context of the sources I analyzed. It does not represent my reflections about the subject from a terminological viewpoint.

This article is an historical interpretation of the work done by the State and the missions to ed... more This article is an historical interpretation of the work done by the State and the missions to educate the natives of the Araucania during the first years of the reductional period (1884-1929). Throughout these pages we will seek to explain the context in which they thought the Mapuche’s educational projects and the methods used to attempt to resolve the resistances that occurred on the road. Among the difficulties, funding and coverage will be the most complex. In turn, we conclude making a comparative analysis, in an educational dimension, between Catholic and Anglican missions in their connection with the Mapuche people in the region.
In this article, published in the year 2012 I used the term: "raza mapuche" on page 40 to make reference to the source I used to do the analysis. I also employed the term "araucano" only in order to respect the terminology contained in the sources I used to do my analysis.

The presence of ethnic elements within an autobiographical narrative would cause doubts about the traditional principles of applied autobiographical categorizations to European and American intellectuals’ autobiographies. In this sense, the reference understood by the western self concept would become denaturalized before the indigenous idea of the self that participates in the act of narrating the story of its own existence. With the lost of their lands after de occupation of the Araucanía, the mapuche people was confine... more With the lost of their lands after de occupation of the Araucanía, the mapuche people was confined to poverty and to be placed in a disadvantage position compare to the rest of the country. During this period of time (1883-1930), called reduccional, the education will be the key to achieve the reincorporation of the indigenous people. According to a new culture of resistance, the mapuches will incorporate the knowledge delivered by the schools in a utilitarian way, producing an increase on the demand to get into the schools. The increasing of this demand was absorbed through three educational agents. The State, catholic and protestants missions. They created a diverse educational context through their own educational projects, aiming all of them to take care of the increasing educational demand of an aboriginal people who instrumentally searched to obtain the skills given on these schools, pursuing the goal of preserving their culture.

They do not represent my actual reflections about the topic because I consider them inaccurate and misleading. This article is an attempt to study three Mapuche letters written in the mid-nineteen century. De... more This article is an attempt to study three Mapuche letters written in the mid-nineteen century. Despite being a small sample, they can be representative of the social practice of popular writing in the Araucanian frontier. The discourse and materiality of these letters will be analyzed to extract relevant information about the historical context of the period in which the letters were written, as well as the strategies of cultural negotiation conducted in the process of their writing. The frontiersman would be the author of these epistles through which we will identify his mestizo identity full of contradictions and adaptations born from the clash between an oral and a written world Key words: popular writing – mapuche letters – 19th century – frontiersman

Rodriguez's dissertation is a qualitative study about the ways in which the label of " refugee " ... more Rodriguez's dissertation is a qualitative study about the ways in which the label of " refugee " (refugiado) shapes and is shaped by macro and microsocial actors that play a role in the landscape of education on the Ecuadorian-Colombian border. The author conducted an ethnographic study in Quito, capital city of Ecuador, and La Misericordia, a small town on the northern border of Ecuador and Colombia, in order to explain how youth with refugee status deal with the state and NGOs for gaining access to educational services.
