Depending on the needs and case studies, different technologies, software packages and their combinations are used. In this paper, we present a comparative study based on the use of different CAD software in conjunction with Web3D technologies for teaching students at the Department of Engineering Management. With respect to the specificity of the profile of students undergoing training, the selection of CAD packages is reduced to the five most commonly used in this field: SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER and AutoCAD. During research, we found that Inventor and AutoCAD do not export VRML/X3D file types;

There are unmistakably two groups of booklovers: those who like to search online, follow other people's latest readings, or simply react to a system's recommendations; and those who love to wander between library stacks, lose themselves behind bookstore shelves, or simply hide behind piles of (un)organized books. Depending on which group a person may fall into, there are two distinct and corresponding mediums that inform his or her choices: digital, that provides efficient retrieval of information online, and physical, a more tactile pursuit that leads to unexpected discoveries and promotes serendipity. How could we possibly bridge the gap between these seemingly disparate mediums into an integrated system that can amplify the benefits they both offer? In this paper, we present the BookVIS application, which uses book-related data and generates personalized visualizations to follow users in their que...

Recent developments in the fields of Information Visualization, Gamification and Immersive Technologies (AR/VR/MR) offer novel opportunities for civic engagement in the planning process that remain largely unexplored. This SIG aims to identify ways in which these technologies can be used to tackle the public participation challenges identified by the European Commission, the UN Habitat and the World Bank and experienced by citizens across the world. The overarching goal of this SIG is to define methods and processes where technology can facilitate public participation in the planning process for the inclusive and democratic development of our cities. The overarching goal of this SIG is to bring together an interdisciplinary group of practitioners, academics and policy makers from the CHI communities (Design, User Experience, HCI for Deve...

The results of this research show positive effect of virtual environments in preparation for active job seeking, especially job interviews. Different games, simulations and other online services presented in the paper are developed to help potential and current job seekers to improve their employability. The mentioned tools improved overall quality of career counselling services, providing a realistic experience. The results of the paper show potential benefits of cooperation between career centres and companies that provide preparation modules for recruitment and selection, in the terms of candidate job prospects and employer branding. Improving assessments in the preparation for AMET's (Air Medical Evacuation and Transport) complex task of transfer of injured or sick patients from the place of accident to the hospital or between hospitals represents the main motive for developing this tool. In IPA-PBL, the problem-based learning is applied as a pedagogical strategy as well as a set of concrete methods implemented in the software. Together with the pedagogical model, specific domain ontology is designed. This way, the learner's knowledge can be analysed in order to collect the data necessary for dynamical adaptation of system behaviour. The results collected during the exploitation of IPA-PBL are compared without using the system. Statistical analysis as well as considerations and conclusions about them are also presented in the paper. The predominant number of trainees ...

Traditional methods and management structures, unfortunately, fail to adequately adapt to this modern world. Hence, there is a need to update the management paradigm to a new era of virtual structures. Management structures and systems developed by researchers such as Weber, Taylor, Fayol and Drucker in the last two centuries established a management paradigm that has survived to the present day. These "simple" structures and systems are more suited to a time when the competition was inert, less aggressive, and characterized by long periods of stability, and when the information technology was in an embryonic stage. As we enter the 21st century there are clear demands for a fundamental rethink, and the development of a management paradigm that can withstand the pressure of rapid change in the borderless, linked and wired world, which is mor...
