Numerical Methods is a course that can be conducted using workshops and group discussion. This study has been implemented on undergraduate students of level two at the Faculty of Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia. The Numerical Method course has been delivered to two Sections 1 and 2 with 44 and 22 students in each section, respectively. Systematic steps have been followed to apply the student centered learning approach in teaching Numerical Method course. Initially, the instructor has chosen the topic which was Euler's Method to solve Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) to be learned. The students were then divided into groups with five members in each group. Initial instructions have been given to the group members to prepare their subtopics before meeting members from other groups to discuss the subtopics in an expert group inside the classroom. For the time assigned for the classroom discussion, the setting of the classroom was rearranged to accommodat...

Both al-Kawakibi and Arsalan lived in late nineteenth century characterised with decline of the Muslim nations and the British, French and Italian imperialism. Muslims became promoters of the imperialist cause and Muslim elites were separating religion from politics an idea en route to secularism. The state of Muslims during this period was same everywhere, though varies in degree. Muslims lag far behind in almost everything. Al-Kawakibi and Arsalan rose to identify the causes of the decline of the Muslim ummah as majorly an internal factor than external. Similarly they promoted the return to Al-Qur’an and fundamental principles of Islam, and further advocated Knowledge for all, without dichotomy between religion and science.

This work offers an extensive and detailed analysis of Muhammad ‘Abduh’s contributions to science and technology. It brings into focus his ideas on modernity, his dynamic philosophy and enormous contribution to religious reform, and his undisputed and authoritative scientific commentary of the Qur’an, i.e. Tafsir Juz ‘Amma and Tafsir al-Manar (The Manar Commentary). The Tafsir reflects a scientific methodology of Qur’anic exegesis, in projecting and crafting an innovative and rational explanation of the text, which illustrates Abduh’s aspiration and passion for reform and a powerful scientific approach to the Qur’an.

In Islam Mathematics is seen as an important tool for life. The Qur'an considers the rules of mathematics to be a pathway to discover God's will. This Paper discusses some of the contributions made in mathematics by some Muslim scholars. These remarkable inputs are due to the fact that mathematics is one of the renowned physical sciences which started right from antiquity. The inputs worth discussing in this paper include those of Al–Khawarizmi, Al–Kashi, Al–Khayyam and Al–Khazin. All have invented some vital concepts used in modern day mathematics.

ABSTRACT Moral and religious awareness originate in human experience, and is cognized by reason as indispensable element of life for moral imperatives are the core of human survival and prosperity. Professional ethics should be studied in relation to and its role in enhancing and sustaining life experience in the world. Engineering values are virtual and universal as far as the general framework is concerned. On balance, both morality and akhlaq with minor semantical differences are symmetrical in nature. Our core concern is to relate Islamization to engineering or to attempt to Islamize engineering sciences providing an overview of Islamization of knowledge as a concept and relating it to engineering sciences and technologies. While Islamization of knowledge is a method to allure Muslims to return to the original ethos of Islam it is necessary that Muslims understand that the entire spectrum of knowledge including engineering have its origin in the Qur’an. The raison d'être of this work is to demonstrate a methodology for Islamizing engineering curriculum. In process we have select some courses taught in the faculty of engineering IIUM and suggested basic approaches of Islamizing it and in that we exhibited some techniques for Islamization.

This research evaluates the failures of the international community to solve the long standing political impulse that has generated humanitarian crisis as well as political, social and military instabilities in Somalia and in the horn of Africa. The nucleus objective of the research is to explicate critically the causes of the failures. Prior to this research no definite work has been done on the subject. The research therefore, investigates the methodology and the strategic framework adopted by the international community in reinstating or overcoming the Somali political and humanitarian impasse. The political history of Somalia is long and painful; as the ruthless civil war ruined the nation for the past two and half decades. Once the central government crumpled in 1991 the institutional structures of the nation went into an eminent impasse. The research adopts evaluative method to cover wider range of ideas and assess the subject matter comprehensively

The UN is making repetitive diplomatic attempts through its resolutions to send peacekeeping force to the Sudanese region of Dafur, it has succeeded to send a large number of troops to Lebanon, and the AU struggles to concur on schema to send African forces to Somalia. NATO forces on the other side are engaged in fierce battles against Taliban fighters in the mountainous region of south Afghanistan, all under one name: international intervention. The fundamental aim of intervention is to lessen the consequences of conflict, usually in the form of violence and destruction. Although the theoretical and practical aspects of conflict management are converging, a void of considerable size still separates the two. The main cause of which is failure to address root causes. Under normal circumstances political intervention is ingrained on the implementation of appropriate and authoritative mandates. Protection of human rights and military or economic interests are part of the justifications...

Ethnicity, irredentism and religion based politics persist to be some of the most complex issues in ethno-political thought in governance systems of the world; as nations struggle to nurture harmonious political system ethnicity seem perturbing; indeed, developed nations face ethnic based conflicts and religious intensity. Though the term “ethnic conflict” became a common term decades ago in the political scenario; it nonetheless embodies vague denotation. Likewise tribal conflicts; conventional political conundrum in the Muslim world, (Somalia, Afghanistan and others) have been perplexed with ethnic and religious conflicts. Irredentism, secession and separatism are other forms of political obstruction in the Muslim world that impede political and religious unity. The growth of scholarly publications on religio-ethnicity particularly in the field of political science in late 1990s emphasized the societal aspect of the issue and made nominal allusion to conflicts based on religious a...

Substantiations of this discernment are traced from the history of Somali politics and the role played by Islam. A preliminary sketch of the political history of Somali Islam is necessary to establish the position of Islam. This endeavor, however, ventures to conceptualize the current state of affairs, as it aims to identify the political ideals of this government-phobia nation.

A worldview could be defined as a model of realities in life, or an outline of ideas and mind-sets about the world, A comprehensive system of beliefs, approaches and methods. Ethics is man's moral tendency, standards and principles that guide man to be inline with what is generally acceptable in life. Professionalism is doing the right thing in the highest or in the best form. On top of these aforementioned values, religion as the revealed guide to man from the almighty, takes the centre, In fact, only the combination of these universal values could form the core of what we term as a conscious human-being. One of the most complex political issues in today's world politics is ethnicity. As nations struggle for harmonious political system, ethnic politics seem bothering. In fact developed nations face internal ethnic-based conflicts. A comprehensive method is needed as ethnic diversity of a variety of societies is increasingly becoming prominent in world politics. The post-cold war era is an era where ethnic nationalism has become the major source of intrasocietal conflicts. In Muslim political thought, this area of study has yet to be academically evaluated from the Quranic point of view, as Muslim political thinkers have adopted the Western systems in political administration. In fact a vast number of Muslim thinkers opine that majority rule principle originated from the Western democratic systems. Contrary to this assertion however, the two most authentic sources of Islam - the Qur'an and the Sunnah - made direct reference to the principle of majority rule. The four rightly guided Caliphs also ruled according to this principle. Nonetheless, differences of opinion among governmental bodies, ethnic groups and individuals in any nation or society, more often than not, preclude unanimity in decision-making, particularly in the Muslim world. Although motives of decision-makers and societal leaders in acting one way or another are far too complex, experience suggests two reasons as the primary causes for the lack of unanimity in collective decision-making and mutual unity among leaders. One of these reasons is the general selfish tendency of man. And the other is the diverse and varying perceptions towards the common good. This is so because the political management in any society involves the adjustment of conflicting interests and opposing claims of man's selfishness that would assert his viewpoint and personal interest in any process of policy-making. In fact in today’s political environment respect for ethical goals of life do not seem to be the rule of politics but the exception. In Islamic political thought, at least on the theoretical level, the Divine Will (The Shari'ah) makes respect for moral and ethical goals on the part of Muslim individuals as well as on all governmental bodies a matter of both constitutional and religious obligation. It would nonetheless be a staid mistake to assume that the moral ideals of the Divine Will could prevail over selfish tendencies of man at all times. The issue of majority rule from the Islamic perspective has its roots in early Islamic political thought. Immediately after the demise of Prophet Muhal'nmad, his companions gathered to decide his successor in the political leadership of the society. The result was "majority rules". This paper argues that in any modern society the largest ethnic group must rule politically, in other words majority rule principle should be exercised in order to maintain social, political and religious stability. The paper also insinuates that disputes among leaders and ethnic groups of any given nation can be resolved through the use of the "majority rules principle". With the full implementation of this principle, conflicts between tribes and ethnic groups, sometimes between diverse cultures and belief systems particularly in modern Muslim nations, could be facilitated.
