Qualitative Method

This article tries to reveal the lived experiences of stress amongst site construction workers and their coping mechanism through leisure in a small construction company of eastern India from the state of Jharkhand. Qualitative methods have been used to collect the data using ethnography and photo-elicitation methods. Discussion with the participants led to the emergence of two themes: (1) work demand and stress and (2) leisure experiences as a coping mechanism. The research findings indicate that physically demanding nature of the job coupled with heavy work load was a major cause which led to the development of stress amongst site construction workers. Subsequently, they were found to be adopting different leisure activities as a coping mechanism for their stress. Based on the study findings, there is an imperative that the societal forerunners and philanthropists continue to use research findings to understand the level of stress prevailing amongst the construction workers and their various stress-coping mechanisms to improve their condition.Cette recherche démontre les liens entre le stress et leurs mécanismes d'adaptation à travers les loisirs chez les travailleurs de construction dans une petite entreprise de l'Inde orientale, dans l'état de Jharkhand. Des méthodes qualitatives ont été utilisées pour collecter les données en utilisant l'ethnographie et une enquête photographique fondée sur les principes de la “photography elicitation”. Des discussions avec les participants ont conduit à l'émergence de deux thèmes: (1) les demandes de l'emploi et le stress et (2) le loisir comme mécanisme d'adaptation. Les résultats indiquent que la nature physique du travail de construction couplée avec des lourdes charges de travail a été des causes majeures qui conduisent au développement du stress chez les travailleurs. Par la suite, ils ont adopté divers types de loisir pour réduire ce stress. Grâce à cette base de données, nous recommandons qu'il soit impératif que les précurseurs de la société et ces philanthropes continuent à utiliser ces résultats de recherche pour mieux comprendre le niveau de stress chez les travailleurs de construction et l'importance du loisir comme mécanismes d'adaptation au stress.

The paper presents the retail market in Romania, the main retailers and their evolution in our country. The theme is better highlighted in the foreign professional literature, but also Romanian economists analyzed some features of this subject. The purpose of this paper was to examine and interpret how Romanian retailers evolved during the period 2002-2009. A qualitative method was chosen for this research, and the empirical data was gathered from the companies in the Romanian retail sector. Primary data was collected through annual information from their websites, annual reports and different articles. The research is useful for companies, in order to understand and anticipate the tendencies in the field.

Although the development in advanced medical and public health services has provided both proactive and passive postpartum care in the rural areas, the traditional practices are still influential. The objective of this study was to investigate the traditional practices and food consuming for Thai postpartum women in the rural areas. The descriptive study used both the quantitative and qualitative methods.

The rationale for the development of effective programs for parents with serious mental illness and their children is compelling. Using qualitative methods and a grounded theory approach with data obtained in site visits, seven existing programs for parents with mental illness and their children in the United States are described and compared across core components: target population, theory and assumptions, funding, community and agency contexts, essential services and intervention strategies, moderators, and outcomes. The diversity across programs is strongly complemented by shared characteristics, the identification of which provides the foundation for future testing and the development of an evidence base. Challenges in program implementation and sustainability are identified. This exploratory case study provides empirical support for three critical assumptions of empowerment theory. Many empowerment theorists have argued that empowerment takes on multiple forms across people, is contextually embedded, and shifts over time (Rappaport, 1984; Zimmerman, 1990, 1995). To better understand the implications of these assumptions for empowerment theory and the research and intervention methods we employ, the empowerment experiences of 49 employees within a large human service delivery organization were explored. A method well suited to investigate empowerment's assumptions of multiplicity and dynamism—a constructivist approach to inquiry—was employed. Content analyses of interview and observational data revealed that the process of empowerment may be more complex than originally conceived. Not only did multiple meanings and desires for empowerment emerge across employees and between employees and leaders, but several shifting ecologies impacted the employees' lives, causing the employees' empowerment experiences to fluctuate. Empowerment emerged as a dynamic, highly individualistic, contextually layered process. Multiple forms, contexts, and dynamics that influenced employee empowerment are described. Implications of these findings for empowerment research and intervention are discussed.
