The starting point of this paper is The Flower of Virtue – the Croatian Glagolitic translation of the popular Italian moralistic-didactic work Fiore di Virtù from the 14th century which has been translated in many literatures, and in Croatia there are four preserved Croatian Glagolitic manuscripts from the 15th and 16th centuries.
Among the manuscripts, the Petris Miscellany itself contains the fewest number of chapters that have never been published, so we shall focus on them in this paper.
A special attention is going to be given to the animal segment of Croatian Glagolitic text, e.g. to the part in which during the visualization of a discussed flaw or virtue a specific animal appears. In this paper we try to answer the questions concerning the relationship between the man and animal and the need of explaining bad or good sides of human nature through the life of animals.

Martin iz Toursa, pod nazivom Sveti Martin Europljanin, simbol dijeljenja, zajednička vrijednost, oživljava tisućljetnu europsku tradiciju sv. Martina. Martina revalorizirati i smjestiti u europaki martinski kontekst.

The Book of Job encompasses not only numerous fascinating topics, but also their respective fields of study, linguistic devices, and particularly the multi-facetted nature of translation. They bear a thousand years of reverence of Christian saints through which one can read off many important historical events and cultural shifts that have sunk into oblivion today. Their evocation uncovers a treasure chest of testimonies whose powerful faith, narratives and legends strengthen the expression of distinctness and autochthony the sacrosanct work of folk philosophy that has been transmitted through the generations, despite technological development and the dynamics of the life of which we are a part. It was in that sense that the Institute of Art History in Zagreb compiled a computer program of hagiotopography by which one is able in a speedy and effective manner to identify all the hagiotoponyms with the basic geographical, ecclesiastical, temporal, stylistic and patronage characteristics of localities that bear the name of particular Christian saints. Based on that program and studies to date on veneration of Pope (Bishop) Clement of Rome, we shall endeavor to cast more light on the importance of its dissemination throughout Croatian territory and the significance of his tradition today. Three levels of tradition During research into the Croatian hagiotoponymic tradition of St Clement of Rome, 17 localities have been confirmed that are linked

One segment of the project Cultural Animal Studies: Interdisciplinary Perspectives and Traditional Practices (IP-2019-04-5621) funded by the Croatian Science Foundation relates to the collection, classification and analysis of animalistic lexical material from Croatian Glagolitic texts. The analysis includes selected Croatian Glagolitic codices from the 11th/12th century to the 16th century, with special attention given to miscellanies, an understudied type of Croatian Glagolitic manuscripts. The material was collected from the Dictionary of the Croatian Redaction of Church Slavonic, as well as our four-year work on the project from the following sources: The First Breviary of Beram (Ljubljana) (14th century), The Second Breviary of Beram (Ljubljana) (15th century), The Academy Breviary (end of the 14th century), The Paris Miscellany (1375), The Vinodol Miscellany (beginning of the 15th century), The Petris Miscellany (1468), The Ivančić Miscellany (14th/15th century), The Ljubljana Miscellany (15th century), The Tkon Miscellany (16th century), and the Cyrillic Libro od mnozijeh razloga (1520). The animalistic lexical material from these invaluable sources is the basis of the future historical animalistic dictionary. The aim of this paper is to present how entries will be organized, as well as the ideas, problems, and the motivation behind the dictionary, a unique endeavor in Croatian lexicography. This dictionary will enable future study of Croatian zoonymic lexicon, i.e. it will reveal which old names for animals have been preserved only in certain varieties, and which have become part of standard Croatian.

The paper shows how the story of St Job, i.e. its apocryphal variant, is woven into a somewhat forgotten European folk tradition, especially regarding Job’s patronage of musicians. The analysis focuses on the Slovenian folk tradition of St Job, whose patronage of music is visible today on the front panels of beehives (panjske končnice), a specific Slovene folk-art heritage that highlights Job’s patronage of bees and beekeepers, which is little known in the entire European folk tradition of St Job. The paper provides an overview of the depictions of St Job identified thus far on wooden front panels of beehives and kept in Slovenian museums. We classified them into seven groups according to the groupings of characters they contain (Job, woman, musicians). A new depiction is added to the existing ones, revealed to the public for the first time in this paper; a panel which Maja Bošković-Stulli entrusted me with to describe it one day. In the interpretation of this beehive panel, we primarily focused on its philologicalfolkloristic aspect, with an inevitable reference to its iconographic aspect in the context of the connection of Job’s patronage with music and musicians, and especially with bees, as a specific Slovenian cultural-animalist link of St Job, music and beekeeping.

Topodynamics of Arrival. Essays on Self and Pilgrimage. Edited by Gert Hofmann and Snježana Zorić, 2012

Key words: The Flower of Virtue, Glagolitic, literature, animal
There are few paleoslavists who have paid particular scholarly attention to the theme of that Old-Testament righteous sufferer, Job. Notwithstanding the strong literary and exegetical associations of the subject, it is particularly interesting in paleoslavistics revealing countless paths of study. The Book of Job encompasses not only numerous fascinating topics, but also their respective fields of study, linguistic devices, and particularly the multi-facetted nature of translation.
The multi-disciplinary nature of the Book of Job piqued Hamm's scholarly interest in Croatian Glagolitic literature. His studies in the field are not the first, but they are, by their textual contributions, the most complex; they continue J. Vajs's work on the Book of Job in the Second Breviary of Novi Vinodolski and in the Vid Omišljanin breviary, which book were the main impetuses for Hamm's detailed study of famous, timeless Biblical stories. Unpublished materials from Hamm's papers reveals the extent to which he grappled with Job, and Paved the way for future generations of scholars of Croatian Glagolitic texts.
ENTITLED CULTURAL ANIMAL STUDIES: INTERDISCIPLINARY
PERSPECTIVES AND TRADITIONAL PRACTICES
One segment of the project Cultural Animal Studies: Interdisciplinary Perspectives and Traditional Practices (IP-2019-04-5621) funded by the Croatian Science Foundation relates to the collection, classification and analysis of animalistic lexical material from Croatian Glagolitic texts. The analysis includes selected Croatian Glagolitic codices from the 11th/12th century to the 16th century, with special attention given to miscellanies, an understudied type of Croatian Glagolitic manuscripts. The material was
collected from the Dictionary of the Croatian Redaction of Church Slavonic, as well as our four-year work on the project from the following sources: The First Breviary of Beram (Ljubljana) (14th century), The Second Breviary of Beram (Ljubljana) (15th century), The Academy Breviary (end of the 14th century), The Paris Miscellany (1375),
The Vinodol Miscellany (beginning of the 15th century), The Petris Miscellany (1468), The Ivančić Miscellany (14th/15th century), The Ljubljana Miscellany (15th century), The Tkon Miscellany (16th century), and the Cyrillic Libro od mnozijeh razloga (1520).
While marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Maja Bošković-Stulli in 2022,
I joyfully shared my memories of Maja connected to two somewhat unusual topics
that marked my scholarly life: the biblical Old Testament Book of Job and culturalanimalistic themes. The paper shows how the story of St Job, i.e. its apocryphal variant,
is woven into a somewhat forgotten European folk tradition, especially regarding Job’s
patronage of musicians. The analysis focuses on the Slovenian folk tradition of St Job,
whose patronage of music is visible today on the front panels of beehives (panjske
končnice), a specific Slovene folk-art heritage that highlights Job’s patronage of bees
and beekeepers, which is little known in the entire European folk tradition of St Job. The
paper provides an overview of the depictions of St Job identified thus far on wooden
front panels of beehives and kept in Slovenian museums. We classified them into seven
groups according to the groupings of characters they contain (Job, woman, musicians).
A new depiction is added to the existing ones, revealed to the public for the first time
in this paper; a panel which Maja Bošković-Stulli entrusted me with to describe it one
day. In the interpretation of this beehive panel, we primarily focused on its philologicalfolkloristic aspect, with an inevitable reference to its iconographic aspect in the context
of the connection of Job’s patronage with music and musicians, and especially with
bees, as a specific Slovenian cultural-animalist link of St Job, music and beekeeping.
