    This paper presents the findings of a study on the relevancy of metaphysics on functional performance of commercial building design. Similarities in principles on building design and planning practices by three major Asian cultures, the Chinese-Buddhist, IndianHindu, and Malay-Islam, are looked into. The main aim of the study was to gouge whether the selected existing building designs were in compliance with any metaphysic theories and conformance with certain an established standard commercial building design guidelines. There are 13 commercial premises owned by Government agency were selected and of these, six were categorized under “performing”, while seven were “nonperforming”. Two locally well-known commercial premises were used as “benchmark”. A combination technique done previously by others with observational procedure was devised in the analysis process.     This paper presents initial findings of a study on functional performance of commercial buildings. Comparison between traditional and modern physical design and planning approaches and practices were carried out by reviewing and analysing selected buildings. The main aim of this study was to find out whether the selected building designs were in compliance with any metaphysical theories. A total number of 13 commercial premises owned by Government agency were selected and of these, six were categorised as “performing”, while seven were “non-performing”. Two locally well-known commercial premises were used as “benchmark”. Findings reveal some evidence of link between metaphysics and functional performance of the commercial buildings. Based on the results of this study, the metaphysical approach in planning and design could be considered to complement the modern design practices.     ABSTRACT Malaysia is one of developing country that is moving towards a developed nation. As a developing country, several aspects must take into consideration such as economic development, human capital, education and transportation that cooperates a crucial role in inspiring people to live more comfortable. Malaysia as an Islamic country has a majority population Muslim have a dream to be a good nation and a vision country. However, there are still leaking and weak enforcement in Muslim prayer room (Musholla) guidelines. The specific guidelines to build and design for prayer room must have specific specifications. This study is to identify and emphasize the significance of design standards that influence the purpose of space. Therefore this research focused on the design standards that influence the function of space at shopping complex. These design standards were discussed in this study to make sure that the right and suitable aspects of design of the prayer room can be design and construct accordingly to the needs of the users. The design for the prayer rooms in the shopping complex should take into a consideration of different types of users; the normal users, the elderly and the disabled. The information and data collected will be referred and reviewed by respected parties as a implementation guidelines design standard for prayer room. Keywords—musholla design, Muslim prayer rooms, mosque design, design environment, space planning. I. INTRODUCTION The population of Muslims people cover about 20 – 25% of the world population which is Islam is the majority almost in 40 countries [1]. As one of the highest majority in the world population, Muslim should be able to practice the Islam religion without any difficulty. The Muslim community need a space that they can perform prayer either in the mosque or other space that are clean and able to pray. The requirements of the design space for prayer room need a strategic planning and suitable design that is following the right standard and the need of the Islam and the users. Numerous designers are interested to design either mosque or a praying facility in shopping mall, an exhibition hall, an airport, or other public building [2]. Each design that has been proposed must get an approval from the local authorities to be evaluated and approve according to the right standard.     ABSTRACT Malaysia is a developing country that is moving towards a developed nation. In the aspects of the developed countries, economic development, human capital, education and transportation cooperates a crucial role in inspiring people to live more comfortable. Malaysia has a Muslim majority population also successfully inspired in Islamic state. Islam is the official religion of Malaysia, however, there are still leaking of specific guidelines for Musolla specifications and standards to build and design the internal part of Musolla for Muslim accordingly to Islamic teachings or to their Creator's requirements. This study is to emphasize the significance of the design elements will emphasized Musolla area for users comfort, especially in the shopping center. Users often complain of inadequate size and narrow space when perform a Solah. The design which is not according to the standard design should be considered and referred to the authority of the local council. In this approach, the collecting data will establish the problems on the design standard of Musolla and the sizing of Musolla space. The study will describes variation of Musolla design and will identify the shopping center which is provided the Musolla area. This research has preparing some method such as observations, measurements and interviews to investigate and analysis the users' convenience. Besides that, these studies were improving by related purpose of Musolla design and accordance with the standards from the local authority.

    This paper presents the findings of a study on metaphysical approaches to building design. Three major Asian cultures, the Chinese-Buddhist, Indian-Hindu, and Malay-Islam, are reviewed. It is found that there are similarities in principles towards achieving the occupants' well-being. Functionality is prioritised and rituals are performed at ensuring the wellbeing and prosperity of future occupants. Whereas, the Chinese-Buddhist practice is based on Feng Shui, the Indian-Hindu tradition is based on Vastu-Vidya. The Malay-Islam is extractions from religious teachings written in a manuscript titled Tajul Muluk. The paper concludes that metaphysical approach could still play its roles in design today.

    This paper seeks to present the furniture usage in Malay traditional house spatial organization. Data analysis is focused on Anjung/Rumah Tangga, Serambi, and Rumah Ibu area. Qualitative research is analysed from the literature review and case study at Maliah Idin’s Melaka traditional house at Jasin, Melaka. The study found that the structure of the Melaka house played a significant role in creating built-in and loose type furniture. The built-in furniture is a space that has a combination of furniture function and the space structure. The furniture presents a manifestation of the Malay culture and the way of life

    The purpose of this paper is to reveal the furniture in the Negeri Sembilan traditional house kitchen. The furniture is essential to determine the lifestyle, environment and social activities. Studies on the origins of the Malays enable us to understand the background and social life of traditional Malays, which eventually led to their civilization. Data analysis is focused on kitchen area in Negeri Sembilan traditional houses, since it is the most active area in the house. The definition of furniture through an interview with experts plays an important role in defining furniture categories, types and usage. The significant activities in the kitchen are analyzed to define the furniture function. In conclusion, Malay furniture which exists in the kitchen of traditional Negeri Sembilan houses is categorized into three functions - body-supporting unit, storage/utility and tool. The furniture is designed into two types - loose item and built-in with house structure. The furniture was basically simple, but the design is direct to the basic needs of user and kitchen function.
