In this era of digitization and increasing use of the Internet, data protection becomes an issue to be addressed. Concealed data practices and data privacy violations are on the increase in the world today. Although, the contributions of e-commerce and digitization to business and cannot be over emphasized; these contributions are negatively balanced by the requirements of collecting and keeping personal information, like credit card details, shopping history etc., of data subjects, with or without their knowledge and/or consent. Privacy policies are now tools used to propagate these concealed data practices as many data subjects consenting to them are not opportune to negotiate the terms of the policy and many do not understand their content. The need to protect data privacy as an inalienable right that cannot be traded off is not only necessary but is urgent. This paper examines the extant laws on data protection in Nigeria and the extent to which data privacy rights are adequately protected. It also examines the national security and economic impact of these laws.

In a country like Nigeria, with its many laws, policies, regulations, and guidelines on environmental protection, one continues to wonder why little progress can be seen in this field. The 5th IPCC Report stresses 'behavioural shift' as a veritable mean to secure fast healing for the human environment. It all comes down to individual Nigeria, and corporate bodies alike, to search inward and ask; What are those attitudes i have which are likely to be detrimental to my immediate environment?

This paper considers the standard of proof in criminal cases and how the 'evidential burden' shifts as situation demands. The paper also takes a look into the concept of reasonable doubt, what it constitutes, its lack of a definite definition, and consider how 'reasonable doubt' can be inferred in certain cases. Finally, an important question is raised, does the defense of insanity constitute reasonable doubt?
