Understanding the principles behind the time value of money can help individuals succeed in both business and personal long-term planning. The Internal Rate of Return (IRR) method provides a straightforward way to analyze long-term financial decisions. The result, the project's IRR, is a simple percentage that is easy to explain and compare with the results from other projects. When considering multiple investments, it is relatively simple to rank them by their IRRs, make minor adjustments to the list for qualitative issues, and invest down the list until the funds for the year have been spent.

MaKing and justitying capital expenditures can be a difficult part of a supervi- sory or managerial position. Understanding more advanced accounting tools for justifying these expenditures, like Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Net Present Value (NPV), can improve the chances of receiving necessary funding. NPV avoids the weaknesses of the IRR method by allowing decision makers to specify when cash flows will occur instead of assuming that net cash flows will be equal each year ofa project. Taking the time to learn basic account- ing definitions and tools can improve your ability to manage and provide greater opportunities to help patients, staff, and the community.

Accounting terminology and methods are essential parts of management and can be used to improve the efficacy of communication with other managers and executives. While learning these terms and methods can seem daunting, the rewards are well worth the effort. Accounting terminology can seem almost as complex as medical terminology: revenues, expenses, iRR, net pres- ent value, and profit. However, manag- ers and supervisors don't need to understand all of those terms, just those most commonly used. Once those basics have been mastered, they will provide sufficient background to understand the many forms, information requests, and questions accounting and finance lead- ers will provide and request. Imaging supervisors and directors can use these terms and methods to success- fully communicate with management about resources needed and their impact on the community and the bottom line of the organization. The reward for the time spent is well worth the effort.

This study explored possible success factors for health information management certification exams. Based on the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) website, in 2018 and 2019, only 70 percent of first-time test takers passed the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) exam; 26 percent passed the Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) exam in 2018; and only 10 percent passed the Certified Health Data Analyst exam in 2019. A quantitative systematic review and meta-analysis offered insight into factors related to passing certification exams. Sources included existing, relevant peer-reviewed and published literature since 1990 within 87 educational and health/medicine databases and 62 other articles and journal databases available at the University of South Dakota library. Outcomes from the systematic review include illumination of factors for passing health information management, healthcare, and education certification exams. Ultimately, this new information will help improve pass rates on certification exams.

Intensification of agriculture in the tropics is likely to increase reactive nitrogen (N) losses in the form of nitrous oxide (N2O), however, drivers of emissions from tropical soils remain poorly understood. This study investigated the effect of leaf litter and urea fertiliser on N2O emissions from two Australian tropical mango orchards. Treatments included urea (25 g N m−2), leaf litter (1500 g m−2 dry matter), their combined application, and untreated control. Up to 80.5 ± 8.4 mg N2O-N m−2were lost within two weeks of treatment application, accounting for more than 60% of annual N2O emissions. Indirect emissions ' 30 mg m−2 d−1 were recorded at one site, potentially resulting from groundwater transported N. Highest annual N2O emissions were observed from Litter + Urea with 130.4 mg N2O-N m−2y−1, exceeding those from Urea-Only by a factor of two and those from Litter-Only by a factor of four. This resulted in residue and fertiliser emission factors (EF) of ' 0.01–0.37%, well below the IPCC and Tier 2 defaults, with whole orchard losses equivalent to 0.19–0.66 kg N2O-N ha−1. The findings suggest N2O is N limited when no N fertiliser is applied, even when applying large amounts of litter-N, and by carbon (C) in the absence of litter. The combined effect of Litter + Urea on N2O emissions surpassed the effect of the sole application of litter and urea, demonstrating a critical interaction between both substrates. This interaction effect needs to be considered when developing management strategies aimed at increasing soil C in tropical soils.

Studies show that there is a strong correlation between provider empathy and the quality of care given to patients. Provider bias, whether conscious or unconscious, can be life-changing for patients. The geriatric population is particularly vulnerable. The Aging Awareness Activity was created to help future healthcare providers understand the difficulties facing the geriatric population. Using hands-on tools to simulate hearing, visual, dexterity, and movement impairments allows for participants to practice activities of daily living with impairment similar to how a significantly aged adult would. We surveyed over 250 healthcare professional students before and after completing the Aging Awareness Activity to determine if our activity increased empathy towards the aging population. The results of this survey concluded that this activity heightened awareness and helped introduce or reinforce their knowledge of geriatric struggles. We hope that providing this type of hands-on experien...

The advancement into leadership positions for many administrators began as staff technologists moving up via interim management opportunities. New managers must develop supervisory skills while simultaneously assuming responsibility for the operation of the department. Mobility today is based primarily on a formal educational background. A transferable set of skills must be augmented with higher education. Those in the imaging sciences realize that an administrative position requires business and management acumen as well as technical skills. A shortage of imaging administrators is predicted due to an aging population and the rapid advancement of technology in healthcare. Institutes of higher education need to address and support the curricula and programs needed, which includes the CRA credential, for this growing field.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to formulate a framework to construct a patient-specific risk score and therefore to classify these patients into various risk groups that can be used as a decision support mechanism by the medical decision makers to augment their decision-making process, allowing them to optimally use the limited resources available. Design/methodology/approach A conventional statistical model (logistic regression) and two machine learning-based (i.e. artificial neural networks (ANNs) and support vector machines) data mining models were employed by also using five-fold cross-validation in the classification phase. In order to overcome the data imbalance problem, random undersampling technique was utilized. After constructing the patient-specific risk score, k-means clustering algorithm was employed to group these patients into risk groups. Findings Results showed that the ANN model achieved the best results with an area under the curve score of 0.867, while the ...

Ghana is a developing sub-Saharan country in West Africa and it struggles with delivering health care within the universal health system. The primary barrier to medical care is the lack of access. The government of Ghana subsidizes universal health insurance for all of its citizens, but lacks technology, workforce, and more importantly access to sanitation and clean running water. Access to health care remains a challenge in Ghana, especially in rural areas. In this research, we studied opinion leadership for health care in Ghana using two surveys conducted in May, 2014. Student investigators administered a survey to explore who was identified as the health care opinion leaders by local community members. The respondents were asked to rank seven categories of health care providers by how often they spoke to the health care provider about their health, from most often to least often , including medical doctors, chemical sellers, herbalists, prayer camps, family members, midwives and shrines or voodoo priests. The study surveyed 157 respondents from local community members, including 51 people in cities, 65 people in rural villages and 41 people in Kpanla, a remote isolated island on Lake Volta. Student investigators also gave a self-designating survey to 61 health care providers to measure their health care opinion leadership. The results of these two surveys were consistent. Local community residents preferred to talk to medical doctors about their health care when medical doctors were accessible. Health care providers’ responses to the self-designating opinion leadership survey supported their strong opinion leadership for health care.
