The more extensive part of the work is dedicated to the analysis of data referring to the workforce in the cultural industries. The article takes into account indicators which reflect, on the one hand, the situation of the personnel in the cultural sector as a whole, and, on the other hand, according to fields of activity. The approach based on fields of activity aims at outlining a comparative image between the countries of the EU countries, but also a more indepth analysis of the data available for Romania.

The study aims at identifying in Romanian universities certain elements indicating the presence of entrepreneurial universities or preparing the foundation thereof. An analysis of the program-related documents on the websites of these universities was conducted (university charts, strategic plans, operational plans, regulations and scientific research strategies, etc.), in order to mark the stage reached by various Romanian universities in their institutional reconstruction process. The signs of institutional innovation identified include: laboratories and research centers, technological transfer centers, consultancy centers, centers created to work within universities, partnerships with private companies and public institutions, cooperation based on common projects, the involvement of students in research, financing from economic operators, participation in international research networks, the involvement in the local development of the area where the university is located, etc.

Today, the interplay between the network society and the knowledge society have provided an overarching perspective on how global interconnectivity and knowledge transfer cannot be separated anymore. The advancement of technological opportunities and the openness towards knowledge acquisition have reconfigured the landscape of human collaboration. As a premise of achieving sustainable competitive advantages, organizations should reconsider the value of the social and information exchange within their networks, facilitating organizational learning and proper response to the field dynamics. Against this backdrop, the present paper addressed the viewpoints and practices of academics from European higher education institutions in regard to leveraging the intellectual capital within their online social networks. Stressing on subjects from European developing countries, the research advanced a new concept-the network-based intellectual capital-liable to account for an emergent capital rei...

In this paper new type of organizations will be emphasized, with different characteristics against bureaucratic ones, from among the most relevant is the virtual organization that needs innovative technical solutions for communications processes between enterprises. ITS1 is a global phenomenon attracting world- wide interest from various groups of people in the field of transport. Why? Transport planners and engineers have always faced a certain dilemma in respect of the transport process. Transport is a vital part of society, providing numerous benefits such as mobility and accessibility. ITS is an example of concept that will support virtual organization. The paper focuses on innovation generated by using virtual reality in one of the most innovative economic sector, the creative industries, aiming to identify the characteristics and the context of innovation by using virtual reality in this complex domain. As new combinations of knowledge and resources, innovation, regardless of its type, creates possibilities of new innovations, and thus set the framework for continuous development; innovation in services, and especially in cultural-creative industries, became a theme of interest during the last years, because its effects extend beyond this sector and affect activity in the whole economy. From strengthening imaginary reality within gaming and entertainment, to simulate reality for educational or social purposes, virtual reality has proved to be an unrivaled innovation strategy. The paper will include an empirical research based on semi-structured interview guide addressed to some entrepreneurs in three different areas of creative i...

Consumers are considered, within the European vision, the “life force ” of the economy. Although the technological means are increasingly available, both European SMEs and consumers are still suspicious of conducting cross-border trade. Single European market has the potential to become the largest market in the world. Currently, it remains largely fragmented along national borders, forming 27 mini-markets. The European Commission’s aim is to achieve a more integrated internal market such that consumers from each Member State have an equally high level of confidence in products, traders, selling methods, as well as consumer protection – no matter where they decide to make their purchases within the EU. The paper presents a secondary analysis of data regarding the many differences in terms of Europeans ’ consumption patterns for different product categories (as a percentage of total expenditures). For example, the share of household budget used to purchase food is highest in our coun...

The present paper intends to identify the main features of Romanian small entreprises entrepreneurs in online commerce of some of the creative industry branches. PurposeThis research paper explores the development of four categories of skills (operational, informational, strategic and digital fluency) as dimensions of the digital intelligence. The purpose of the pilot study is to determine the consequences of these gaps on PR practices and the directions for educational adaptation.Design/methodology/approachA questionnaire was applied on a convenience sample of 98 PR students from Romania, in March 2014. The majority of students (n= 88) were of 20 to 25 years of age.FindingsThe results of the survey showed an approximately equal level of development for each of the four skills in the sample of PR students (with a lower degree for the information skills). The general level of development is rather good and shows that the “digital literacy” acquirement is a need for the specialists from older generations to communicate with younger publics.Research limitations/implicationsThe third category of skills (strategic skills) has been coded as a set ...

This study aims at identifying if and to what extent we can speak of the existence of gender imbalances in the field of scientific research in the European Union as a whole, but also comparatively between different countries, including the situation in Romania. After a short overview of the context in which this preoccupation appeared in European gender studies and of the possible causes which can determine this imbalance, the paper continues with a presentation of the general situation of the female/male workforce in the member states, followed by a analysis of the educational levels of women compared with men, with respect to stages of education. The study also analyzes the data on the participation of women in the field of scientific research from the point of view of share of the total, broken down by sectors of activity and scientific fields. A related focus is the participation of women in the field of higher education, according to hierarchical levels, from the perspective of access to research financing, of expenses per researchers, etc., focusing on the gender imbalances pointed out earlier and on the specificity of former communist countries.

Purpose The paper aims to investigate the standpoints and practices of university members from European developing countries regarding the harnessing of the intellectual capital (IC) within online academic social networks. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire-based survey with 210 university members was conducted, with the indicators adopting prior measurement scales which were further adapted to a network framework. Findings The organizational policies and practices relate positively and highly significantly with the valuation of the network-based IC components. Moreover, 63 per cent of the professional and organizational competitiveness of higher education institutions is determined by the exploitation of the IC embedded in online academic networks. Research limitations/implications All survey respondents were from the European developing countries, which may limit the general applicability of the findings. Also, the emphasis is laid solely on online academic networks. Prac...

The quality of life of employees has become one of the main concerns of European employment policies in the last ten years, with the strategies that were developed taking into account the new emerging risks related to the changes in the way work is organized (flexible work arrangements, increased work intensity in order to meet deadlines, increased share of highly skilled non-manual workers, etc.). The article presents a comparative analysis between member states with respect to the quality of the life of employees, from the point of view of the nature and organization of work, focusing on one of the negative effects of overworking, especially in non-manual occupations in new member states, which has increased in incidence in the last years: stress.
