Public LIDAR-Scan Tools (www.tim-online.nrw.de) are used for the survey and documentation of known and unknown mining areas in the Eggegebirge in Northrhine-Westfalia.
With this tool an iron ore mining pit field was discovered, where iron stone (content 50-55 % Fe) was extracted from slopes. This mining area is not mentioned in the historical sources, so it seems to date in the mediaeval times or former times.
