Varied are the causes of low back ache and facet joint syndrome is one amongst them. Hence this study was undertaken to find out the effectiveness of SNAGS and conventional physiotherapy in patients with lumbar facet joint syndrome. Purpose: To describe the management and outcomes of 4 patients with lumbar facet joint syndrome treated with Sustained Natural apophyseal glides (SNAGs), Therapeutic Ultrasound and lumbar stabilization exercises. Study Design : A case series of consecutive patients with Lumbar facet syndrome Case Description: Four consecutive patients (mean age 52 years) who presented with lumbar facet syndrome were treated with two weeks protocol which included Sustained Natural apophyseal glides, Therapeutic Ultrasound (Cont. 1-MHz , 2.0-W/cm , 10min)and lumbar stabilization exer...

Sugarcane workers and farmers are at very high risk of work related musculoskeletal disorders and is one of the few industries in which family members (who often share the work and live on the premises) are also at risk for fatal and non-fatal injuries. The physical demand of the farm work which range from moderate to heavy, often include standing, squatting, bending and reaching, carrying heavy loads and working for long hours, may cause certain hazards to the person. Author of this book leaved in area which is well known for Co operative sugar factories. Asia's first Co operative sugar factory was started in pravanagar a area which was under research for work related musculoskeletal disorders. Sugar cane workers suffer with multiple musculoskeletal injuries because of repeated tasks like cutting, bending, lifting and throwing. Hence this book gives a details of prevalence, management and prevention strategies for WMDs in s...

Determining the progression of the disease is a useful tool which will help in the planning of the exercise programme to slow or halt the disease progression. Measuring the joint space width of the tibiofemoral joint is one of the best options for knowing the disease progression and helps in designing an exercise programme. Aim: Retrospective measurement of joint space width in patients with bilateral tibiofemoral osteoarthritis of the knee joint. Methodology: Data was retrieved from the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) from 1st of February to 22nd of June 2018. Radiographs that were showing OA knee features by using Kellegren Lawrence (KL) grading system were considered and the joint space between the tibial and femoral compartment was measured. Result: The joint space width showed more reduction in the medial compartment of th...

There are very few RCTs done to assess functional improvement after TKA. Hence, this study was undertaken to find out evidence on physiotherapy treatment in TKA and analyze it. Methods: We searched Medline, CINAHL, PEDro from the year 2001 to 2015 for RCT involving evaluations of physiotherapy exercise in adults with a knee replacement. Search criteria’s were pain, stiffness, adherence and attrition. The inclusion criteria were studies which included physiotherapy exercise for balance specific exercises which compared various functional training and functional training with balance exercise in TKA. Result: Searches identified 20 randomized trials related to TKA and physiotherapy. Only three were fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Functional training with balance exercises found to be effective in patients with total knee arthroplas...

Major depression in patients with chronic pain is associated with decreased function, poorer treatment response and increased health care costs. Purpose of the study: To estimate the prevalence of depression in persons with chronic facet pain and correlation of depression with Pain intensity and age. Method: Cross sectional Questionnaire based study. Total 80 subjects with chronic low back pain were included in the study. Out of which 40 were with diagnosis of facet pain in lumbar region and 40 with chronic low back pain of any other cause. Patients were assessed using ‘Patient Health Questionnaire 9’ (PHQ-9) and Visual analogue scale. Result: High prevalence (78.75%) of depression among chronic pain patients without any difference in chronic facet pain and chronic low back pain of any origin, there was strong relation between pain severity and depression (r=0.86). Conclusion: Our study revealed a high prevalence of depression amongst patients with chronic facet pain and chronic low back pain of any origin.

Basically, back extensors play an important role in prevention and treatment of low back pain and are proven clinically with more credit to its endurance as compared to its strength. Thus, this study was done to assess the endurance of back extensors in normal individuals. Experimental study using simple random sampling. In this study Sorensen's test was assessed in twenty normal individuals. After applying t-pearson's test it was found that females (61.8±7.997) have higher back endurance than males (44.7±11.945). The study concluded that average values obtained in all the tests are higher in females as compared to males in the population under study.

The objective of our study wasto find out prevalence of flat foot in a population of 18 to 25 year old physiotherapy students and to find out correlation of BMI with arch index Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted with sampleof80 physiotherapy students fitting in inclusion criteria. Different outcome of the study that is navicular drop test, arch index, foot posture index was assessed for each subject. Result : Prevalence of flat foot in a population of 18 to 25 years old physiotherapy students was 11.25% for all subject affected with bilateral flat foot. According to theage, 18 years were having 2.5% of flat foot bilaterally, 19 years were having 3.75% flat foot bilaterally, 22 years were having 3.75 % flat foot bilaterally, 24 years were having 1.24% flat foot bilaterally. The mean Navicular drop test value was 11.11 for all subject affected with bilateral fla...

Present study was planned to check the short term effectiveness of anterior and posterior Kaltenborne joint mobilization techniques for improving shoulder external rotation range of motion in patients with shoulder adhesive capsulitis. Methodology: Total of 40 patients diagnosed with shoulder adhesive capsulitis were recruited and randomly allocated into two groups. In Group A (n= 20) subjects were treated with Therapeutic ultrasound (8mins,2w/cm2 ,3Mhz),Kalternborn anterior mobilization techniques ,Stretching exercises and strengthening exercises for roatator cuff using theratubes, whereas subjects in Group B (n= 20) received Therapeutic ultrasound (8mins,2w/cm2 ,3Mhz),Kalternborn posterior mobilization techniques ,Stretching exercises and strengthening exercises for roatator cuff ...

Both entities of headache and depression are known to hamper function. Method: In this case-control study, Physicians from the Department of Orthopaedics and Medicine identified the patients with a chief complaint of Cervicogenic Headache (CGH) and the nursing staff identified the patients who would be in the control group presenting complaints other than headache. The investigators obtained informed written consent from patients who were willing to participate and requested them to complete the PHQ-9 and formulated the results. Conclusion: Patients with Cervicogenic Headache had a high prevalence of Depression as reported by the PHQ- 9 when compared to their counterparts who suffered from disorders other than headache.

In 1933, Ghormley coined the term “facet syndrome”, suggesting that hypertrophic changes secondary to osteoarthritis of the zygapophyseal processes led to lumbar nerve root entrapment, which caused low back pain.
