Lacrosse has been a central element of Indigenous cultures for centuries, but once non-Indigenous players entered the sport, it became a site of appropriation – then reclamation – of Indigenous identities. The Creator’s Game focuses on the history of lacrosse in Indigenous communities from the 1860s to the 1990s, exploring Indigenous-non-Indigenous relations and Indigenous identity formation. While the game was being appropriated in the process of constructing a new identity for the nation-state of Canada, it was also being used by Indigenous peoples to resist residential school experiences, initiate pan-Indigenous political mobilization, and articulate Indigenous sovereignty. This engaging and innovative book provides a unique view of Indigenous self-determination and nationhood in the face of settler-colonialism.

The Creator’s Game will be of interest to scholars and students of Canadian history, Indigenous studies, political science, sociology, and sports history.

Coaches of different profiles influence athletes’ sports motivation differently. The aim of this paper was to investigate the coaches’ contribution to the motivational structure of athletes from team sports. Using the coaches’ self-evaluations of goal orientation and intrinsic motivation and the athletes’ evaluations of their coaches’ leadership styles, the two types of coaches were identified. Discriminant analysis showed the differences in motivational structure between athletes trained by the coaches from either one or the other group. The athletes who were trained by the more athlete-directed, low ego-oriented coaches showed a preferable motivational pattern; they perceived the mastery motivational climate in their teams, were higher on intrinsic motivation, their task goal orientation was high and ego goal orientation was elevated. This paper offers a discussion of the rationale for the creation of sports categorization criteria based on sporting genealogy and the gendered body, as proposed by Torres et al. in their article 'Beyond Physiology: Embodied Experience, Embodied Advantage, and the Inclusion of Transgender Athletes in Competitive Sport'. The strength of their 'phenomenological' account lies in its complex account of human experience; but this is also what makes it impractical and difficult to operationalize. Categorization rather requires simplicity and practicability, if it is to be applied to all athletes (and not exceptionally to transgender athletes). This discussion helps us to formulate three general principles for the process of categorization of athletes, relating to fairness, verifiability and practicability.

In this article we review the epistemological and pedagogical debate on Kinesiology and Physical Education that has been going on in the universities of the US from 1990 to the present. We have compiled the opinions of a wide sample of authors, with the intention of getting the most complete picture of a process that, according to Morrow (2006), seeks to answer the questions "where we come from, who we are, and where we are going". After comparing and analysing the most relevant documents, we conclude that the period 1990-2013, characterized by a bitter struggle between paradigms fought by humanists, positivists, cross-disciplinarists, and sub-disciplinarists, has revealed Rev.int.med.cienc.act.fís.deporte-vol. 16-número 62-ISSN: 1577-0354 258 the eventual predominance of the integrative paradigm of Kretchmar (2007, 2008).

Most existing game analysis attempts do not consider situational context information sufficiently for the assessments of tactical behaviour. The purpose of this case study was to apply a new analysis approach, so far only used for 1-versus-1 analyses in soccer, to small-sided games and to identify and analyse therewith the efficiency of tactical patterns in 3-versus-2 game play. Therefore, 279 games, performed by an elite youth soccer team, were recorded by video and a position tracking system. The data was processed by the new approach, including unsupervised machine learning routines and artificial intelligence methods. Two crucial moments were used to analyse the occurring tactical patterns for the specific game: T0 (time instant of the shot) and T1 (time instant of the last action before the shot). An external focus of attention is considered superior to an internal focus for learning and performance. However, findings specific to changing the task difficulty are inconsistent. The present study used a reciprocal aiming task to determine the effects of attentional focus on motor performance using speed-accuracy paradigm. We constrained timing to examine how internal and external focus of attention influenced accuracy when task difficulty changes. The results indicated greater accuracy on the right target and greater consistency on both targets for the external focus condition, regardless of task difficulty. Our results uniquely demonstrated how instruction modified a speed-accuracy task.

As part of a coach's informal learning process, previous athletic experience is a foundational element of an athlete's future coaching career, determining the perspectives, beliefs, and behaviors the coach will use in their interactions with athletes. Although it is investigated more generally, previous athletic experience is rarely considered in understanding specific coaching behaviors related to supporting athletes' needs and motivation. This study investigated 15 novice coaches' personal athletic and coaching experiences to determine how these experiences influenced their own coaching practice with regard to the engagement in autonomy-supportive and/or controlling behaviors. The interview data revealed that novice coaches used their past experiences to inform their practice in the following three ways: (a) experienced controlling behaviors as an athlete, which transferred to a desire to be more autonomy supportive in coaching; (b) experienced controlling behaviors as an athlete, which transferred to a desire to be more controlling in coaching; and (c) experienced autonomy-supportive behaviors as an athlete, which transferred to a desire to be more autonomy supportive in coaching. These results suggest the importance of considering previous athletic experience as an antecedent to coaches' engagement in autonomy-supportive behaviors.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of feedback on freestyle learning and performance of novice swimmers. Sixty male (Mage=18.7, SD=1.82) first year students were randomly assigned into four groups: self-modeling, expert-modeling, verbal, and control group. The intervention program lasted for seven weeks. Participants were evaluated in 25m freestyle swimming, with a pool buoy between the legs and breathing every three hands through a pre-test, a post-test and a retention test. The result revealed that self-modeling group was the most effective, in comparison with the other types of feedback, in terms of improvement of the technique in novice swimmers. There were no differences between groups in the speed performance of 25m free style swimming. Overall, the present study provides valuable evidence for the effects of self-modeling on performance in freestyle swimming, and encourages research to furtherexplore such effects between different types of feedback...

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in the perceptions of self-determination theory-based constructs such as the psychological needs support from the teacher and one’s peers, perceived satisfaction of the needs for competence, autonomy, relatedness, as well as different types of motivation in physical education among students with different organized afterschool sport experiences. Six hundred and fifty nine Estonian secondary school students completed questionnaires assessing the key variables of interest. Results indicated that boys who did afterschool sport scored significantly higher on perceived autonomy and relatedness support from the teacher and relatedness support from their peers, perceived satisfaction of the needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness and external regulation than boys without afterschool sport experiences. The present contribution will deal with the project of “decomposition of thought” that Maine de Biran (1766-1824) carries out starting from his masterpiece of 1804, the Mémoire sur la décomposition de la pensée. In order to understand
its originality it has proved necessary to take into account the critical resumption of Condillac’s sensualism proposed by the author. As a matter of fact, Maine de Biran explicitly states his will to «rewrite from a new point of view the Traité des sensations»; and this critical rewriting is fundamentally based on the concept of effort – with the consequent passage from the passive objectivation, typical of Condillac’s analysis, to the first person experience of subjective activity – and on what could be defined in terms of “sensorial perspectivism”. Actually, the science of man emerging from the biranian writings refuses the primacy and the exclusivity of visual register in the name of a sensorial holism – revaluating therefore kinesthetic tactility as well as the close coupling between the ear and the voice or the
act of breathing – which allows the integration, though not the confusion, of the different plans of human existence.

Emotional relationships are crucial for an accurate prediction and control of the impact of emotions on athletic performance. The Individual Zones of Optimal Functioning (IZOF) model attempts to describe and explain emotions related to individually successful and poor performances (Hanin, 1997, 2000). The participants were 617 Greek athletes (424 males and 190 females) from five different sports. Their ages ranged from 18 to 30 years (M=24.30, SD=3.70). All athletes completed the questionnaire on emotions (IZOF, Hanin, 2000), which was translated into Greek (Hanin, Papaioannou & Lukkarila, 2001). The aim of the study was the examination of a possible relationship between emotions and confidence and among different competitive sports in Greece. The caring, loving, nurturing aspects of motherhood take on new roles in the postmodern world where giftedness and talent is the epitome of the “supermom’s” children.  The establishment of gate schools in higher income areas is an indicator of how the standards for motherhood have evolved and morphed into the investment of children’s talent. When giftedness is not recognized, how has the postmodern supermom maintain her “super” status – establish a mono-goal that nurtures a talent.
This paper is the result of eight years of observing the mothering of several young ice skaters and following the “progression of investment” in nurturing the talent of an ice skater—the monogoal.  The emphasis of this study is not only on the socialization of moms into this role, but also exploring the role of motherhood in balancing socio-economic consequences to family and family life in upper income families.  The role of the “Skate Mom” in their child’s progression as a competitive skater is complex and gives light to other similar motherhood roles (i.e., “the soccer mom,”  “the dance mom,” or the “band mom”).

Sono molto abituato a libri strani e persone speciali,  ma Hawkins si distingue per il suo uso di una semplice tecnica per testare la tensione muscolare come chiave per la "verità" di qualsiasi tipo di affermazione di sorta, cioè, non solo per se la persona che viene testata ci crede, ma se è davvero vero! Ciò che è ben noto è che le persone mostreranno risposte fisiologiche e psicologiche automatiche, inconscie, a qualsiasi cosa siano esposte: immagini, suoni, tatto, odori, idee, persone. Quindi, la lettura muscolare per scoprire i loro veri sentimenti non è affatto radicale, a differenza di usarlo come un bastone dousing (più lettura muscolare) per fare "scienza paranormale".

Hawkins descrive l'uso di diminuire la tensione nei muscoli di un braccio in risposta ad aumenti del carico cognitivo causando così il braccio a cadere in risposta alla pressione costante delle dita di qualcuno. Sembra inconsapevole che c'è un vasto e vasto sforzo di ricerca in psicologia sociale a cui si fa riferimento come "cognizione implicita", "automaticità" ecc., e che il suo uso della "cinesiologia" è una piccola sezione. Oltre al tono muscolare (usato raramente) gli psicologi sociali misurano l'EEG, la risposta galvanica della pelle e più frequentemente le risposte verbali a parole, frasi, immagini o situazioni che variano da secondi a mesi dopo lo stimolo. Molti, come Bargh e Wegner, prendono i risultati per significare che siamo automi che imparano e agiscono in gran parte senza consapevolezza tramite S1 (sistema automatizzato 1) e molti altri come Kihlstrom e Shanks dicono che questi studi sono imperfetti e siamo creature di S2 (sistema deliberativo 2). Anche se Hawkins sembra non avere idea, come in altre aree della psicologia descrittiva del pensiero di ordine superiore, la situazione per quanto riguarda l'"automaticità" è ancora caotica come lo era quando Wittgenstein descrisse le ragioni della sterilità e della sterilità della psicologia negli anni '30. Tuttavia, questo libro è di facile lettura e alcuni terapisti e insegnanti spirituali possono trovarlo utile.

En el presente artículo se reflexionará en torno a la enseñanza universitaria de las habilidades comunicativas respecto de los pacientes en la formación de Licenciados en Kinesiología y Fisiatría (LKyF) de la Universidad Nacional Arturo Jauretche (UNAJ). Se parte de la noción sostenida por un corpus denso de investigación que muestra que en el campo de la práctica kinesiofisiátrica la relación entre los terapistas y sus pacientes influye positiva o negativamente en el propio proceso terapéutico y en sus resultados. A lo largo del artículo se vinculará analíticamente el plan de estudios de la carrera con los resultados de una tesina de grado en la que se investigó la inserción profesional de siete egresados de esta universidad argentina durante los dos primeros años de ejercicio profesional. En tal sentido se analizará la compleja experiencia que conlleva dejar de ser estudiante para convertirse en un profesional con plena responsabilidad en sus prácticas focalizando la reflexión en las habilidades comunicativas con los pacientes.
El artículo es de tono exploratorio en tanto se busca hipotetizar respecto de algunos aspectos problemáticos de la formación en habilidades comunicativas de tipo profesional con el objetivo de alentar futuras investigaciones en el área.

The research investigated personality traits of high-risk sports athletes. The aim was to investigate the personality dimensions and compare the results to the results of non-risk sports athletes and non-athletes. Thirty eight high-risk sports athletes participated in the research (alpinists, sky divers, paragliders, white-water kayakers, downhill mountain-bikers, motocross riders, downhill skiers and ski jumpers). The non-risk sports athletes consisted of 38 swimmers, track athletes, sailors, flat-water kayakers, rowers, Nordic skiers, sports climbers and karatekas. The non-athletes were equalled with both groups in age and education and included 76 non-athletes. The Big Five Observer Scale was used. It was found that high-risk sports athletes scored highest in emotional stability, they were followed by the non-athletes and the lowest scores were achieved by non-risk sports athletes. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a key ligament in knee stability and balance. The quality of

performance during the single-leg squat (SLS) exercise has emerged as an indicator of potential ACL

injury risk. Many studies have compared SLS performance between men and women, however no

study has compared SLS performance between trained and untrained subjects. Furthermore, no studies

have examined center-of-pressure (COP) stability during performance of the SLS. This study examined

COP stability and frontal-plane knee translation during the SLS in trained and untrained individuals.

Trained individuals demonstrated better COP stability and less frontal plane knee translation in

comparison to untrained subjects. COP stability is related to SLS performance and thus may be

indirectly related to ACL injury risk. Subsequent studies are essential to support these findings.

Myocardial infarction is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Bulgaria has increased the incidence of this disease and the average age is about 50 years old and suffers mostly males. The latest data [4, 8, 9, 10] rehabilitation of these patients reflects favorably on the quality of life. Numerous studies have shown that early conducting of cardiorehabilitation recovery, prevent future vascular incident, improved control of risk factors and improves the quality of life for patients with cardiovascular diseases [1, 5, 6]. It is generally accepted that the basis of the rehabilitation program in patients with AMI and held the PCI are dosed exercise. It includes training, control of risk factors, psychological and social assistance and exercise of low and moderate intensity [2, 3, 7]. Introducción El uso de emoticonos ha aumentado en los años recientes. Se han convertido en un recurso digital preferido como complemento de breves textos, y con frecuencia en solitario, en las comunicaciones cotidianas en las redes sociales, sobre todo a través de los dispositivos móviles. De manera creciente, tanto el lenguaje digital de los emoticonos para la expresión de los sentimientos como un nuevo rasgo de la ciberpragmática interaccional, como la íntima relación de complementariedad entre comunicación verbal y no verbal manifestada en el sentimiento expresado por los emoticonos van recibiendo atención en propuestas didácticas del ámbito de la enseñanza de ELE. Esta aportación tiene tres objetivos: primero, indagar sobre qué explotación de los emoticonos tiene lugar en las clases de ELE; segundo, conocer la opinión del profesorado respecto al recurso, y, tercero, valorar su idoneidad, considerando en qué medida nos encontramos ante un recurso novedoso e intercultural. Además de establecer un punto de partida en la definición, tipología y somera historia de los emoticonos (§1), revisamos de manera resumida sus contextos de uso y funciones (§2), así como el panorama de la explotación de los emoticonos como recurso didáctico en la enseñanza de ELE (§3).
