This research studied the impact of quiet time on the character formation of would-be missionaries using the Redeemed College of Missions, Ede, Osun State as the case study. It addresses the effectiveness of quiet time in the character formation of missionaries, the model of doing quiet time in RCM, and the responses and reactions of the student of RCM to the model of doing quiet time in the College. This research also seeks to carry out scholarly attention on how effective is quiet time on the missionary’s character formation and the model of doing quiet time in RCM to determine whether or not it can be emulated in other missions schools.
The study employ a survey method to collect detailed information that described the study. The respondents are selected students from several programmes of RCM. The researcher chooses the school because it is the largest school of missions in Africa and because of the serious concern given to the issue of quiet time by making it compulsory for all students. One hundred and twenty questionnaires were distributed among the respondents using the response pattern of Agreed and Disagreed to obtain the needed information. The researcher used the questionnaire gathered for data analyses which were centred on simple descriptive statistics using a frequency table.
The result of the findings shows that quiet time is effective in the character formation of would-be missionaries. Relating it to RCM, it was revealed that the quiet time model of RCM does not result in the character formation of would-be missionaries in the College due to the method and model of doing quiet time in RCM.
The study concluded that the RCM model of doing quiet time is not effective in the character formation of the students who are been trained to become full pledge missionaries because of inadequate teaching on quiet time, shortage of time for doing quiet time, and a singular adopted method for doing quiet time by all students. Hence, it was recommended that consistent teaching should be given to quiet time, regular checking of student’s quiet time notes, giving the student choice of method to do their quiet time and students should submit their quiet time notes before leaving the school.
