Th... more Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a tumor whose incidence has been increasing in recent years. The occurrence of cutaneous metastases from HCC, as the first sign of onset, is very unusual. We report a case of cutaneous metastasis from HCC appearing as a shoulder abscess and being the first clinical sign of the disease. We also examined the few published cases, and the diagnosis, treatment, and survival rate for this disease. Metastases of HCC should be included in the differential diagnosis of growing lesions in unusual localizations. Biopsies are required to confirm the diagnosis. The diagnosis of HCC from a cutaneous lesion is very uncommon and is associated with a poor prognosis.

The multiple congenital anomalies involving fusion of the lower limbs, absent external genitalia, blind rectal end, absent of anal canal, single umbilical artery and embryonic mesonephric apparatus. The sex could not be determined and baby died few hours after delivery. Post mortem examination revealed multiple congenital defects. Conclusion: Rarity of single birth sirenomelia delivered by a teenage mother and emphasis on post mortem examination which revealed the gross morphological associated features that will add to the available literatures. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case to be reported in Northern Nigeria.

It is a disease that causes tissue to become necrotic, leading to deep ulcers. We report a case of pyoderma gangrenosum localized at the scalp, which is an unusual location. After 16 months of treatment with prednisolone 40 mg daily, methotrexate 15 mg weekly, ciprofloxacin 500 mg and honey dressing the indurated elevated ulcer margins flattened and the ulcer healed with scarring of the entire scalp.

The clinical presentations of AIDS-related KS varied markedly across the African continent. This article reports a series of unusual clinical presentations of the tumour in Northeastern Nigeria. This is a prospective study carried out from September 2003 to August 2005, at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno State, Northeastern Nigeria. 20 cases of histologically-confirmed KS were prospectively studied. There were 17 (85 percent) men and three (15 percent) women, giving a male to female ratio of 5.7:1. Their ages ranged from 21-45 (median 37) years. 18 (90 percent) of the patients were anaemic. Mean haematocrit value, CD4+ cell count and duratio...

Those of the bones of the paranasal sinuses and ear canal have been reported but rare. A young woman reported to us with history of discharging sinuses around the right knee and recent fracture of the right femur. Despite all efforts, she ended up losing the whole limb from the hip. When a patient with Aspergillosis of the long bones presents late, amputation may be the best option. Early diagnosis will prevent this.

She is a dietitian who carried out research on Aspergillus contamination of palm oil over a six-month period, during which she apparently shaved her axillae and perineum using a safety razor blade. She presented with nodular lesions, which became extensive ulcers after an attempt at incision and drainage. Diagnosis was based on culture and histology. The patient was treated with itraconazole 200 mg twice a day, with surgical excision and a rhomboid flap cover of the axillae. She has remained disease-free five years after discharge. This highlights the likely benefits of a combination of surgical excision and drug therapy, in achieving a cure in this patient.
